    The article implies, and a lot of comments assume this is a new process, it is almost certainly pyrolysis which is not new, having been around for thousands of years. Originally it was used in earth kilns and charcoal pits. Newer version include catalysts, microwaves, rotating cones, fluidized beds, etc. and can have many steps to the process.

    Probably uses more energy than is produced in the fuels, unless a very good catalyst is present. Hopefully Renewlogy has found some increases in efficiency.

    I am very happy and excited to read about this operation. Living down here in Dixie, we are currently unable to recycle our plastic bags. We do have a recycle program that has only been going for a couple of years. But they beg us not to put the plastic sacks in the recycle as it gums up their machinery some way.
    I would hope that the Washington County Solid Waste District will be looking into this program.

    Google "Priyanka Bakaya"
    Her main accomplishment seems to be attaining millions from governments in the US and Australia. Fitting that she ends up in Utah.

    California doesn't want our coal fuel, said it wants natural gas, now natural gas is not clean energy. So what does California want. Enlighten us.

    "....about 70 percent to 80 percent becomes a liquid fuel product. The company makes diesel, kerosene,and light fuels; and about 20 percent becomes natural gas, which is used to heat the process. In the end, less than 5 percent of the material is wasted."

    I wasn't aware that China had been a big part of plastic recycling nor that it has taken itself out of that market.

    This new approach to recycling the plastic certainly **sounds** like a win/win kind of remedy for what has become an ever growing avalanche of plastic under which we're being buried.

    I hope it works as described and is as scalable as it's going to need to be to digest all the plastics we produce and discard.

    The story appears incomplete to me, so, Renewlogy recycles plastics 3-7?

    How about the economics? Most likely this process costs money, which I assume is paid by those who want to recycle plastics? The landfill savings would be significant.

    Priyanka "noted no toxic emissions are created from the process." Unfortunately that is typical spin. Just prior to that statement, in the same paragraph, it states "about 20 percent becomes natural gas, which is used to heat the process.". Hopefully it is not news to Renewlogy that burning natural gas creates pollution.

    I'm not saying this is a bad process, I'm just saying be truthful. There is no such thing as clean energy just as there is no such thing as chemical or manufacturing processes without some type of pollution. People need to be aware there are always trade-offs.

    I could pick enough plastic bags off my trees to sustain the industry for a week at least.
