@Copybook Headings: "Didn't Obama's campaign do the exact same thing in 2012? Apparently it's only a 'crisis' when Republicans do it? The hypocrisy is stunning."

    No. Not even remotely.

The Obama campaign had people sign up and were very open about it - the had to opt in, and then later could easily opt out if they wanted.

It was voluntary and honest and aboveboard.

Cambridge collected information by subterfuge and deception and lied and lied about what they were doing.

The difference between someone knocking on your door and asking you questions and someone sneaking into your house and going through your papers.

I don't approve what Facebook has done, but people are also accountable as well.

I have Android, I downloaded my data to see what was there, and no phone information was on it at all. I did not allow Facebook access to anything else on my phone right from the get go- including the Messenger app. Facebook didn't have any access to my contacts or call/text logs because I didn't give it permission to do so.

On top of that, I set my Facebook profile on private so that only friends can see anything I post (which is quite rare, actually). I'm glad now that I can see this was a good move.

Last week it was a 'crisis'. Last week the MSM breathlessly implied C.A. breached Facebook security and flat out stole the identities of 50 million Facebook users. Last week the MSM insinuated that Cambridge Analytica practically forced the 50 million to vote for Trump.

    Now we hear this:

"... researcher Aleksandr Kogan used a personality quiz app to obtain data from Facebook users. He later sold the data to Cambridge Analytica, ..."

This is what Trump is referring to when he decries fake news.

Didn't Obama's campaign do the exact same thing in 2012? Apparently it's only a 'crisis' when Republicans do it? The hypocrisy is stunning.
