    Stop Politicizing our Public lands.
Stop naming buildings or anything else, after worthless Politicians.

If we must re-name 100+ miles of road after anyone...

How about Ronald Reagan...An actual Westerner ...NOT a Manhattan-ite!

Reagan won 49 States....Trump didn't even win the popular vote.

If we searched the World over, we (Utah) couldn't find a more antithetical person to Utah's and Western values!

More dumbing down from the Utah Legislature.

This is a very, very bad idea, and I'm a conservative that applauded the reduction of the monuments, but absolutely nothing good could come of this idea.

Please Utah State Legislature, just stop and think for a minute. Would you want to see "Barak Obama Highway" as you drove through Yosemite valley? Then why would you want to politicize one of our most scenic byways in the state?

Please do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.

In a country where only 30-35 percent of the population support this president or in a world where that support is much lower, it’s really hard to believe that this state which is so dependent on tourism would somehow be stupid enough to even consider naming a road in a national park or monument after Donald Trump. I simply cannot believe republicans representing this state would do something this dumb.

Ernest Yahze, he fought for this country, the road goes through native lands. He meets the criteria as do all the Navajo Code Talkers. They should all be recognized. They didn't get deferments and they didn't have to volunteer to serve a country that continues to take from and marginalize his people. They saw a cause, put the treatment they had been getting aside and fought.

There should be no question or doubt.

    They are true heroes.

What a horrible idea. This is an iconic Utah route; to name it after someone with such weak morals and who is certainly no friend of our outdoors would be ludicrous. There are literally thousands of more deserving people within eady reach. Shame on Rep. Noel.

This is Mormon Morality on full display folks. Celebrate and honor a man who openly brags about infidelity; who openly brags about sexual assault; who lies and cheats as though it were second nature. Yes, this is what we want to let the world know about Mormonism.

I sent a letter last night to Mike Noel expressing my dislike for his proposal. I explained that it goes against not only the vast majority of citizens wishes but it goes against the history of the area.

I got a nasty response from "Representative Noel".

The press needs to further examine his land holdings and his inability to disclose this information. Trumps changing of the Monuments directly benefits Noel's properties as reported in this paper. (And it would be good for more investigations into this conflict of interest.) We need to make sure our supposed "public servants" serve us instead of themselves.

We need to continue as citizens to voice any and all concerns weather they like it or not. This arrogance on their part has to stop!

" I think that it would be an honor to put Trump's name on it!"

And while you're at it, why not re-name some town like Alpine, Utah, "Trumpville". Trump could build his presidential library there. It would be a big boost to the local economy. Anyone driving to Mt. Timpanogos could stop for gas and get some fast food for the trip. Just think of it, you can go to a KFC or McDonalds and purchase the "Special Donald Trump Combination" of all your favorites.

However, Trump would probably demand licensing agreements with all concerned including fast food franchises and apparel stores. You could have a "gi-normous" golf course and adjoining club where Trumpites could buy MAGA hats and "Lock Her Up" T-shirts made in China.

Think about it. All those disgraced White House former employees could work at the new Trump resort. And, of course, current employees could go to work there when Trump is finally gone since they might not be able to find employment anywhere else once it's over. Where would people like Stephen Miller go? Rob Porter could manage the who shebang.

Yes, it's a great idea. but wouldn't a town be better?

"Just the idea of it triggers liberals. Can you imagine if we actually did it?

"Holy Cow! That would be top tier funny!"

Yes, it would. But then you have to live with it.

Liberals would also find it funny to name Interstate 5 as it runs through Utah, "Barack Obama Memorial Highway", but it would lose it's humorous touch quickly as Utah Republican legislators have a conniption of their own.

Rather than seek opportunities of chaos and disruption, perhaps these people need to step back and re-think some of their more hair-brained ideas. There may be an urgent need to protect Donald Trump by trying to memorializing him in some matter in the more reactionary regions of the state, but it only engenders further discord, even among good, patriotic, rational conservatives who yearn for a return to normalcy.

Whenever something as ludicrous as this comes on the political scene, we have to ask ourselves what is all this noise trying to hide? Is this a diversion of something else more sinister that certain legislators are trying to push through the statehouse? It's a time-worn Trump tactic we've seen over and over again.

    Targets?

  • Jim Chee Ka'anapali, HI
    March 2, 2018 12:53 p.m.

Ever to be known as: "Scandal Highway".

Most legislators give it some time before honoring some building, ship, highway, or other entity after someone. That's why we don't have an nuclear aircraft carrier named the USS Richard Nixon. We have the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), also the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). But sailors would be aghast if there were to be a USS Donald Trump. Like the current administration, no one would want to serve.

OK. Leave it to a Utah legislator to honor a man accused of multiple sexual scandals, unethical and questionable business practices, rude and intemperate behavior, questionable Russian financial dealings, and other sordid activities that Utah voters can hang their heads with travelers from out of state drive that highway.

One might as well add the Michael Flynn Federal Building, the Paul Manafort Memorial Bridge, and several other sordid players from the Trump White House. And you don't have to stop there. Why, you have Trump allies Roger Ailes, Bill O'Reilly, and Harvey Weinstein just name a few. (Oops, not Weinstein. He was a democrat, but a good buddy of Trump.)

And since I can't count on people to look things up...

World's Approval of U.S. Leadership Drops to New Low (1/18/18)
Gallup polling finds overall approval-disapproval in 2017 is 30-43 while in 2016 it was 48-28. Germany's approval went from 41 to 41, China's from 31 to 31, and Russia's from 26 to 27. The US was the only one to change, with a hard plummet to third place of those four.

Pew Spring 2017 polling asking about confidence in the US president to do the right thing regarding world affairs. Obama was above 50% all eight years for the UK, France, Germany and Spain. Trump? 22% in the UK, 14% in France, 11% in Germany, and 7% in Spain. He scored higher with the far-right nationalist parties in Europe, 39% favorability among those who favor the National Front in France (vs 6% of others), or 25% among those who favor the AfD in Germany (vs 8% of others).

"Hillary only won about 500 counties (including 88 of the 100 most populous counties) to Trump's 2,600. What does that mean?"

It means she took 66 million votes, compared to Trump's 63 million. It also means that some very tricky math got Trump the electoral college win, but never forget that can work against you, too.

I"m not sure why you'd hype up the number of smaller counties Trump won, or point out that Clinton took the big cities. Is a citizen in an urban area not as important as one in a smaller county? Is that what you're trying to tell us?

Just to be clear, it's not just liberals who are adamantly against this idea. I'm from southern Utah and head down there frequently to visit family. I'm conservative and think this is a terrible idea and don't want any of those routes named after him. Do I have to go back into the Deseret News' archives and dig up articles highlighting this President's abuse, his flip flopping, his denigration of the handicapped? Need more examples ? President Trump a man who loves his generals, his military, his army and his guns is not worthy for this honor. This is an honor usually reserved for a person who has honotrably stepped up and served this nation in our armed forces.

I was born and raised in Kane County and voted against Hillary by helping Trump get elected. I think the state will spend thousands of dollars trying to keep "Trump Highway" signs up and suggest this silly idea dies before it gets a breath of life.

Trump makes millions licensing his name; I doubt he'd let anyone use it for free.

I have A better idea! How about we name the highway after someone who has actually done something!

I am sure those highway signs will survive the harsh criticism, I mean winters.

How about the "Donald J. Trump National Memorial Mining and Drilling Byway"?

Wow. And I never thought a Utah politician could beat Hatch's "Trump is the best President I've ever served under". Mike Noel wins. I'm all for a "Donald Trump Boulevard" as long as it leads to the new State prison.

Other than saying that this one of the most STUPID ideas to come from one of Utah's most stupid lawmakers, there's nothing else I can say that would pass DN's censors.

This is enough to gag a maggot.
