If President Trump had any common sense he'd know it is politically incorrect to say what you are actually thinking. In Washington you are expected to smile and tell people what you think they want to hear. For some reason Hillary Clinton played the game correctly but still managed to lose the election to a man without "lick of common sense".

The liberals are still seething over the loss of their heroine to a man like Trump.

Trump has no business meddling in the internal affairs of our closest ally the U K. The man does not have a lick of common sense.

Some people got deferments and some men went to Canada to escape being drafted.
We could learn a lot from Israel. They don't like to go to war but when they do it is over quick and fast. (Their six-day war is a classic example.)

We lost over 58,000 dead and 304,000 were injured, and what did we achieve for that terrible price?

I solute each and every man that got a deferment from that ugly immoral conflict.

I was not referring to your service but to Trump using his wealth and influence to get out of serving. And now he is banging the drums of war. That is absolutely hypocritical to me.

@cactus pete, perhaps the Vietnam War was a quagmire, like every war we've fought since.
Perhaps the war was immoral. Perhaps there was a breakdown of discipline, as you suggest.

None of your non sequiturs will detract from the fact that when it came time to serve, Donnie used a pathetic excuse, along with his father's wealth, to get out of serving his country. He didn't avoid fighting out of an abundance of conscience, we know that for a fact.

Was Donald a coward for avoiding the fight?

I don't know, but making up excuses and using one's wealth to avoid fighting for your country doesn't exactly make him courageous.
But oh boy does Donnie like to talk like a tough guy, don't he?

Please don't get all uppity about something you obviously know nothing about. I didn't support that ugly war, and I didn't volunteer. I was given a draft lottery number and unluckily for me my number got called. The only thing good about it was that I get VA benefits.

You are waaaaaaaay over your head on this subject and the less you say the better you'll look.

Was there anything morally wrong with getting a deferment from that ugly war. (I'd explain it in detail but the Deseret News sensors would have a heart attack.)

People that want to blubber about Trump getting as deferment should consider joining the military. May I suggest the Marines.

    =======

    I'm from that era Pete.

Trump was not only a draft dodging coward,
he used his daddy's money and influence to buy a FAKE Doctor's note about bone spurs to do it.

    BTW -- I wasn't drafted -- I ENLISTED!
    ...and you?

"Was there anything morally wrong with getting a deferment from that ugly war. "

If you support the war but are not willing to go fight in said war then you are an immoral hypocrite and deserve to be scorned. Especially when you then mock those that have served like Mccain.

Just a general comment for those too young to have served in Vietnam: Towards the end there was a major breakdown in discipline. Drug use was rampant. Soldiers were dying in a conflict we had already decided to run from with our tail between our legs. Did I mention the returning soldiers that were spit on by Americans when they got home?

Trump supporters, when will he act like he is the president? He can’t say anything he wants he is an employee of the United States and his tweeting conduct reflects poorly on this nation.

If we can't trust Donald Trump with a Twitter account from attacking our friends and allies and seriously damaging diplomatic relations --

WHY on earth should we trust him with the nuclear codes?!

    Unfit and un-qualified for office.

Drawing a line in the sand and then letting your enemies walk all over it is my definition of a coward.

Please don't mention the Vietnam "conflict". There came a time when our officers started getting fraged by their own soldiers. Google the "Kent State shootings" where we killed unarmed students protesting the war and then come back and we'll talk about your draft deferrals in a war we lost.

The tweet that offended all reasonable people in the world cannot be spun out of a mistake. As many people are saying, it demonstrates serious dysfunction of the person with the Twitter account.

Rifleman, Trump is a coward like no other.

Bullies, by their nature, are cowards.

Besides getting 5 draft deferrals during the Vietnam War, which made his disrespect of John McCain's service all the more telling of Trump's character.

As a candidate and as a President, he has never once taken responsibility of any of his actions, no matter who he has offended. A man of character can own the consequences of his behaviour. Trump has no character.

If you feel the need to "what-about" with someone of different political opinions, go right ahead.

But there is no denying that Donald Trump is the most cowardly and weak leader this country has ever seen.

Trump may have his own mind, but you have to wonder what paranoid fearfest is going through it that made it seem that doing this was a good idea.
    He really does appear unstable.

I don't know where you get the idea that President Trump is a coward. He has a mind of his own, and unlike Hillary Clinton isn't afraid to say what he actually thinks.

Speaking of Hillary I hope you were as excited as I was to see her sit and watch President Trump get sworn into office. A genuine smile if ever I saw one.

Trump will probably scrap the trip because he is basically a coward. Without fawning attention from his hosts and without a lavish state welcome, Trump would rather do phone-in interviews with "Fox and Friends".
