“....is how Utah felt about their last game in Logan, since the Utes have been too scared to play in Logan since then.”

Please....We’re 7-1 up there in Logan over last 8 games....And iirc, usu has lost @ home 6 times over last 2 yrs....Hardly sounds like a scary place to play, unless of course you’re byu....To a program such as ours, usu is utterly irrelevant....Same goes for byu-p....They’re both merely guaranteed Ws for us, nothing whatsoever more....Tsk, tsk.

    7 straight & counting & 12/15 & 17/25 & the insurmountable overall record, 60-34-4.

    Go Utes!

BYU's 1984 Consensus National Championship and #1 Final Ranking in both major polls are irrefutable!

"BYU "fans" have been doing victory laps for a 6 point margin of DEFEAT in Provo to Utah.

But a 7 point loss in OT in Logan is being taken to the woodshed?"

It's quite obvious that "being taken to the woodshed" is how Utah felt about their last game in Logan, since the Utes have been too scared to play in Logan since then.

    "You are still delusional"

Making that claim while arguing to invalidate the 1984 win is absolute irony.

You can wake up on Wednesday screaming that Monday didn't exist and you'll be headed for a straight jacket.

84 is a fact buddy, it's beyond debate because it happened.

Why must certain Ute fans who fain to be beyond both byu and usu make this about Utah?

Why debate 1984 as if it's not fact?

Why does Deseret news even entertain comments so out of place and reaching?

Your logic is seriously lacking because no BYU fan has ever said that BYU would be #1 today. What they have said is that BYU would have still been #1 in 1984, even if the BCS rules had existed then.

Please....usu barely won IN OT on sorry officiating in Ot @ home, not @ all constituting being “taken to the woodshed “—Lol

That was literally their only good season in a zillion yrs....We’ve since replaced all of our Mwc recruits with Pac-12/P5 recruits, while usu returned to being the complete joke they’ve always been....Btw, ‘12 usu was coached by a Ute.

“The Utes bribed the Aggies to move the next scheduled game in Logan to RES instead and the Utes haven't been back to Logan since.”

    Where’s your evidence of this?

“The Utes have since scheduled home-and-home games with Fresno State and San Jose State, so why not with your long time rival Utah State?”

As I’ve stated, there’s zero advantage recruiting-wise to playing against usu, et al.

“Are you seriously suggesting that California recruits won't see Utah if the Utes play at Stanford, California, UCLA or USC, rather than at Fresno St or San Jose St?”

Are you seriously portending there’s some magical threshold of how many times we’re allowed to play in Ca, where a large chunk of our players/recruiting targets come from?

“What about your FCS games? Does playing No Colorado at RES really fulfill your need to play in fertile recruiting areas?”

Go back & re-read what I stated regarding Fcs opponents.

“If you were really serious, rather than just blowing smoke, you'd be scheduling games in Texas and in Florida, but of course that will never happen since the Utes are too chicken to play any team east of the Rockies.”

We just recently played @ Michigan & have gone eastward on numerous occasions over the years & if I were our Ad we’d play regularly against Fl/Tx schools....I’m hopeful our new Ad schedules accordingly.

Soon to be 8 straight & counting.

I really enjoy reading the posts from Ute fans. I have to take time to digest them. Uteology's posts usually make sense because he/she either bases them on fact or logic. AZUTE is a lot like Chris B, he/she just shoots out some random toxic thought with no facts or logic to back it up. But all 3 are entertaining to read. I agree Utah should not play USU, they have nothing to gain from it, and everything to lose. They shouldn't play BYU either for the same reason. However, due to BYU's resources they are the instate team most likely to become competitive with Utah over the long haul. And due to the size of the fan bases for Utah and BYU they are going to be forced to play one another. The Utah alumni really like to see the Utes beat on the Cougs and the Coug faithful prayerfully hope for a return to the glory they once had, which probably is never going to happen. But hey I enjoy the games with the Cougs, generally competitive, and always entertaining. I appreciate their willingness to continue to play the Ags.

Utah is 14-1 over 2 decades vs USU.

    We are 1-8 vs Washigton.

Yet, we rather play at Washington then in Logan.

Back on topic, Utah State was on the rise under Anderson. They have taken a step back.

As BYU takes a nose dive, they must beat BYU to become the #2 destination for in-state recruits.

  • Mountainman38 Idaho Falls, ID

This is a good move for both schools for fans, recruiting, geographical rivalry and getting TV exposure. Weber State and Southern Utah improving, but do not have the scholarship numbers to compete on the same level. Both USU and BYU and their fans would like to play Utah each year. As a fan of all three, I would like to see it happen, but that is not likely for several reasons.

Since Utah moved to the PAC-12, they simply cannot afford an OOC loss. In the South division, with Colorado's improvement there are no easy games. and currently drawing the top 4 teams from the North, Washington, WSU, Oregon and Stanford, each one will be a tough battle. That means eight straight challenging games.

And as I recall in 2012, beating BYU, a loss to Utah State kept Utah from becoming bowl eligible. These in-state rivalry game tend to be intense. Not only can upsets occur, but teams may have injuries to key players such as Utah's DL Fitts, and BYU's QB Hill, that affect the rest of the team's season. So if Utah plays BYU or USU, a P-5 team, that leaves room for only one "soft" game such as Weber State. BYU has 6 tough games and 6 softer ones. USU has some soft ones in the MWC.

“Why not drop the FCS game and play both BYU and Utah State home and home?“

As far as my Alma Mater is concerned, we shouldn’t be scheduling usu/byu-p EVER again, regardless of location....Same goes for every other in-state school, period.

It’s all about recruiting nowadays, therefore we should be scheduling our A/B/C OOC games against schools in our fertile recruiting areas or against a school such as Michigan for national exposure....Yes, no more FCS opponents, period.

We already own UT in recruiting, therefore scheduling usu/byu-p/other in-state schools LITERALLY does us ZERO good recruiting-wise, period.

They’re nothing more than guaranteed Ws nowadays, period.

    1. It's a no-win situation for Utah. If Utah wins, they were expected to win. If they lose, it's a disaster. Why would Utah put itself in a no-win situation?
    2. It's what USU and BYU-P fans/administrators want. Why would Utah give them what they want, especially the way Utah has been treated by the legislature?
    3. It gives the other in-state teams a chance to brag about margin-of-loss moral victories and other silliness. Why would Utah want to provide fodder for silliness?

The interesting thing about some of these comments is that there was a good contingent of fans wearing Utah paraphenalia at the USU-BYU game last year. One really cool old guy sat behind me and said that for one night he was a USU fan and he cheered mightily. It was nice that they could join us. All the Ute fans that sat by me were very respectful of both teams and were very positive in their comments. I have to admit I like the Utah baseball caps better than the BYU ones. More variety and better colors.

It's also a nice gesture to see that Holmoe doesn't require USU to do a 2 for 1. With USU making 1.9 million to hold a game at Alabama that's a big haul for USU.

With BYU's ticket sales and concessions revenue exceeding 6 million per home game, compared to USU revenue per home game around 2 million. It would make sense to have USU play 6 other home games to generate the 12 million for the season, then have BYU pay them a million for each visit to LES for a 2 for 1 series. USU and BYU make more money and BYU gets a 7th home game every few years.
