"A 12-pt final margin hardly constitutes “domination"

U were down 16 points with less than a minute remaining - it could very easily have been a 20-point blowout.

    DOMINATION!

“Your Utah-SLC program was dominated by BYU, again, and the Utes have had just as many, if not more, players jumping ship in the last few years.”

    A 12-pt final margin hardly constitutes “domination”....Lol

And everybody knows we were the superior team by season’s end, period.

Look forward to getting destroyed by us next season & beyond....Afterall, byu has merely 1 W against us in the last 5 yrs.

And unlike byu’s EM/EB, virtually every one of our transfers were asked to leave for PT/in order to make room for greater talent.

The lone exception was asked to leave due to becoming a locker room cancer.

Furthermore, transfers constitute nearly 50% of rosters nationwide nowadays.

    Go Utes!

Frank Walters - It is great that you have been in Rice stadium (however many years ago it was called that), but have you ever been to the Huntsman Center and a basketball game? Doesn't sound like it. Also, as I said before, if you aren't a byu fan, then you are truly a poor judge of coaching talent. Coach K(West) is great, as is his staff of eight years.

This season was not a success. You can't be the 8th highest paid coach in the country and not make the NCAA Tournament 2 years in a row.

Amusing you think I'm a BYU fan...I've been in the stands at Rice Stadium since the seats were wobbly.

I've been saying all season that I don't think LK is our man, it's time we start competing in the conference rather than waiting for everyone else to lose. I hate the we bought out of the BYU game, hate it. And if we can't beat BYU consistently then what are we even doing??? BYU is not what it has been in the past, their players are sub-par and their coaching is too, WHY are we not beating them consistently?

Awhile ago I had read an article about a current AD staffer who would be a good fit as AD, I must have mistakenly thought he was hired. I'm very relieved that they're doing a broad search and not just promoting in house.

The U of U is a storied institution, it's time we act like it. If we're paying LK this much then he needs to deliver better results

Frank Walters: "In the end I really had hoped that we'd have hired a new AD from outside the University, one with new perspectives and goals. Instead we're stuck with status quo."

I recommend you start at the beginning rather than complain about the end. Utah just announced several days ago the members of the search committee. Having not even announced who the candidates are, let alone interviewing anyone, how can you declare "we're" stuck with status quo? Your statements sound suspiciously like that of a BYU-P fan.

I'm a Utah man, but can't understand how he thinks the conference was under rated. If that were the case, someone besides Utah would have won a post season game. The post season record suggests that the conference was probably over rated. I thought it was going to be an all PAC-12 NIT final four. Pfffttt!

"Krystkowiak doesn’t think the Utes arrived by reaching the NIT championship game, nor does he feel like missing the NCAA Tournament was a failure."

    ------------

I disagree, missing the NCAA tournament was a failure for a team that finished #3 in the PAC-12.

That's on the coach for having a weak OOC schedule. This has to change.

This was a very fun year. I loved how the team got better each week, and was playing really good basketball in feb and march. It looked like a rebuilding year, and it was, but it was a bit better than just just that. Coach K and staff, did an excellent job in getting the kids to buy in and develop. This recruiting class coming in is very solid, and the future looks bright. I am not sure we will win the conference in the next few years, as Utah runs a clean program and doesn't pay their players like AZ and USC, but I am proud of the way the program is run.

Frank Walters is a closet TDS fan or perhaps is just a poor judge of coaching talent. Either way he is way, way off base on his feelings about Coach K(West).

    Frank,

    Your charade doesn’t work w/me.

Your byu-p program is on a downward trajectory & has their best players jumping ship, left-&-right.

This is what should 100% hold your concern.

On the contrary, we’re on an upward trajectory, particularly w/our incoming recruiting class.

Our Coach K & his staff have everything to do w/it.

We’re going to absolutely destroy your byu-p team next season & it’ll be a blowout, from start-to-finish.

Look for my local boy, 4 star TA, to dominate in leading the charge from the very get-go.

    Go Utes!

@frankwalters - guess what.? This isn’t the MWC anymore and the Utes won’t be at the top most years but a third place finish is hardly mediocre. LK does lose his cool more than occasionally but so do a lot of good coaches.
Your expections, along with your description of mediocrity are not realistic. Kyle has done very will with his program and LK has done well with his kids.

and @motorbike - losing isn't fun at all, and competition sports really are measured by wins...just ask little brother down south! Or try telling the little league baseball kids that they don't need to win...even when they're not keeping score the kids know who's winning.

  • Frank Walters Salt Lake City, UT
    April 25, 2018 4:14 p.m.

@motorbike - You're exactly right. What made this season not fun was watching a coach throw tantrums all too often. We really deserve better than that, we ARE so much better than that.

In the end I really had hoped that we'd have hired a new AD from outside the University, one with new perspectives and goals. Instead we're stuck with status quo. Status quo means we're destined to remain mid-heap in conference rather than getting to the top tier. That's what's frustrating. Mired in mediocrity is not what the U is about, yet we continue to act like that's where we belong.

As for Coach K, he's a mess. We need a coach that can figure out how to motivate a team well before the post season tournaments roll around. We need someone who will get us there, and Coach K (for all the good he's done in his time here) is not the guy to do it.

My current employer has had now 3 CEOs in its life. The first was great with the startup, he got us to just over $10M in annual revenue. The 2nd CEO got us to just over $100M annually. Both peaked and the company suffered. When you peak it's time to move on. It's time for Coach K to move on.

I'm excited about the team roster next year but it'll be a tall order to expect such an inexperienced team to do much if any better than what this year's team was able to do. Hopefully they learn and progress in the same way and then stick together for a few years. If that happens then there appear to be some promising years ahead.

"The year ended in a fun way, the conference season was frustrating and unfulfilling."
    --------------
I guess what's fun to one isn't always fun to others. While there were certainly frustrating moments throughout the entire season the FUN for me was watching a team that kept learning, kept battling and then BECAME the team that "ended in a fun way" for you. Sports will always disappoint people that only measure fun by wins. Well maybe not always, but most of the time.

Have to agree with the coach, this was a fun year. Didn't make the dance but played well down the stretch and gave us something to cheer for with their run in the NIT. And it was fun to play Utah State again, it had been too long. The Beehive Classic has promise, hopefully they can make it a little more fan friendly ticket wise so more people are willing to attend.
