I don't have a problem with playing UCLA on their home court in the
semi-finals.In order to be the best, you have to beat the best, and
BYU is the only program in the country that has an overall winning record versus
the 19-time National Champion Bruins.Long Beach State is the best
team in the country, but beating UCLA on their home court may be a tougher
challenge. At the very least, BYU will be playing in their fifth
Final Four in the last six seasons, a remarkable accomplishment.
UCLA is a very good defensive team. They made some phenomenal digs and service
returns. BYU dominated with blocks, something they have always done very well
over the years. 8 yrs of a Sander playing for BYU has been amazing.
And I especially appreciate that they stuck around for 4 yrs when others of
lesser talent chose to leave early.UCLA will get the home court
advantage in the nationals. Since 1970 BYU has hosted the national tournament
once. UCLA has hosted it 13 times! Several other California schools, Penn State,
Ohio State—have also hosted it multiple times. What’s up with that?
Why the discrimination and blatant favoritism?
@Brave Sir Robin:You care, cause you commented. You care a lot because
you're always commenting on Cougar articles. Why don't you spend more
time commenting on Ute articles. They could sure use it when you compare how
many posts on Ute articles compared to Cougar articles. And yet that obsessed
fan base would have you believe they've moved on from BYU.....yeah, right
No need to bring Utah into this conversation since they don't even field a
team. This is top notch competition between superb programs. BYU is a powerhouse
in this sport and it is fun to watch. The Cougs have a legitimate shot at a
National title. I am very excited about the possibilities in the NCAA
tournament. Go Cougs!
Way to go Cougs! I read the SB Nation story about this win and the writer made
it sound like the only reason BYU won was because of home court advantage. Like
they don't have talented guys? The SB story makes it sound like BYU got
lucky and accidentally backed into their win.
@Striker"Little bro is going to have a fit and tell us how #2
UCLA wasn't really legit and blah blah blah."I'm
pretty sure most USU fans don't know that BYU-P even has a volleyball team,
to say nothing about even caring how they did.
I think this team certainly have what it takes to win it all this year. They
just need to avoid getting slow starts and playing catch up. Here's hoping
this year they will finally get over the hump and win it all. Go
Fun in SFH last night. UCLA took the first with some very weird things: a server
hit the net for dribble overs three times and the cougs could not get back into
system as the guy served for six or seven points ... seemed like forever. After
that, the guy didn't serve a point that I recall, hitting the net until the
coach took him out. After losing that set, the Cougs put on their game faces and
the big guns started firing and they were in control after that.UCLA
was tough and quick, but BYU had the cannons. Place was packed and really noisy.
UCLA never quit and it was tough all the way. Great match.
Congratulations to the BYU Cougars for capturing the league title on a stellar
win over UCLA, a very good team! The article announcing this win was
hidden on page B8 in the printed DN. This was such a great achievement. It
deserved better coverage. I'm glad to see it in a prominent place
online.Thank you to the Sanders' brothers, Taylor and Brendon,
for 8 powerful years and additions to this volleyball team. What will we do
without you? We have loved watching the closeness and trust this team shows on
court.Good luck in the NCAA tournament! Go Cougars!
BYU off to another Final Four! Little bro is going to have a fit and tell
us how #2 UCLA wasn't really legit and blah blah blah. Awesome, dominating
win. This team is really solid. Go take down #1 Long Beach!
It isn't mentioned elsewhere but this was the Cougars third consecutive
MPSF tournament championship. Considering the amazing teams in the conference
that is quite an accomplishment. Can the cougars make it to the
national championship game? I think so. Can they defeat an undefeated Long Beach
State team. Crossing my fingers!
After a rough first set, BYU got their act together and won the next three sets
over a very good UCLA team.Congratulations to the Cougars on another
MPSF tournament championship. Good luck in the NCAA tournament. After
back-to-back National Runner-up finishes, it's time to seal the deal and
hang another National Championship banner in the SFH.Go Cougs!
