@Casey See"Now should they win the championship, then all of the
awards such as Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year Coach of the
Year, Most improved, etc will come. If they make the championship, they might
win a couple of those awards, else it will be snooze city. "Come
when? Next season? That wouldn't make much sense. I believe all the
accolades are awarded before the Championship series begins.
Thunder had a good plan. Play rough, play defense, go inside and kick. Worked
until Adam's got in foul trouble and the non-defenders reverted to their
accustomed roles. Jazz decided to go after George (kept a fresh dedicated
defender on him all night), defend the middle and let them shoot the three. Made
it interesting early but the Jazz kept playing. Rubio put on a clinic in ball
handling and his short range game was something to behold. The Jazz offense
exploits what is given with the "four" setting the table for "the
Mitchell show, ie the scorer". Mitchell gets into four trouble Exum takes
over, Burks waiting in the wings. Any one of the three can get the job done
along with Neto. Don't sell out young Stockton, he may have more of a
future than most think. Hard to believe all the point guards on the roster.
Think the answer is, there are actually not that many.
Andy, Speaking of having a blind eye, you might want to take off
the blinders as well. There are other teams with deserving
RE: at long last . . . .Royce O'Neil plays better defense and
therefore Snyder has elevated him above Burks in the rotation. I totally agree
that Alec has a lot of talent, especially driving to the basket and picking up
fouls. I miss seeing him out there also.
Why doesn't Burks get more playing time? Although I don't really
follow the Jazz, I do think he is a very talented player who gets fewer minutes
than I would think he has earned. Any answers out there?
@ Little AndyI agree with you that the national media tends to
overlook teams like the Jazz (or should we say just the Jazz). Now should they
win the championship, then all of the awards such as Rookie of the Year,
Defensive Player of the Year Coach of the Year, Most improved, etc will come. If
they make the championship, they might win a couple of those awards, else it
will be snooze city. It will be like we said at the beginning of the
year, the Jazz will always exceed expectations and they might make it to the
playoffs but that is all. So far these Jazz players are showing that individual
stars don't win playoff games, it is everyone playing as a team and riding
the player who is hot at the moment. What is great about that is the opposing
team has no idea who to key on. Key on Rubio and Exum or Donovan
will get hot. Go after Favors and it will be Crowder or Gobert. The injureis at
the beginning of the season is actually helping now. 10 or more players have
serious playing time. They have all played with different players on the court
and know what to expect of each one.
Thanks, Floyd, for showing the best that OKC fans have after watching your team
quit on defense last night.
Great all-around team effort. Great job!
Floyd Johnson - Broken Arrow OKRe: John Stockton not wearing his
"assigned" shirtJudging from the look of the arena last
night, there weren't too many who didn't "follow the rules" by
not wearing their "assigned" shirts, though there probably were a few
others. John Stockton has always been his own man. It's one of the things
I like best about him: He never got caught up in the hype, he simply went out
and played. In this state, his stature is such that he could show up stark
naked at the arena, and he'd still be well received (though Nada might have
a thing or two to say about that! ;-D)
Looking at what should be awards this year. Gobert defensive player of the
year, Mitchell rookie of the year, Snyder coach of the year, Lindsey executive
of the year, Rubio, / Favors or both for comeback player of the year. But
national media has a blind eye for players who acually deserve a award. Lets see
We have a long way to go! But this Jazz team are making memories, not only for
themselves but for us all.Go Jazz! Bring this Championship home to us!
Jazz hand out free shirts to co-ordinate the crowd. John Stockton says no
thanks, I'll wear gray.
