    So a squid knows better than the powers to be at Gonzaga what is best for the program. Really, your Uties crack me up. An article about Gonzaga and you are all over it. Why, because BYU is in the same conference. Talk about an obsession. And to the post about the ACC being better than the PAC 12, well, the proof is in the pudding sir they say. This year it was no comparison. Pundits are now starting to refer to the powers to be in College football as the P4 Conferences. PAC 12 is on "mid major watch."

    byu was equally 8 pts from going 5-7.

    And an undefeated indy/P5-less byu wouldn’t even remotely sniff a Nc, period.....Their Sos would be too weak.

    Do I really need to spell it out for you? In order to win a conference championship, you have to make it to the conference championship game. How many conference championship games has Utah played in since joining the PAC12? None, zero, nada, zilch. I'm sorry, but your opinion doesn't equate to fact.

    The PAC12 was a one-bid league this year. Yes, I know they got 2 play-in bids, but those teams didn't deserve it. And, Arizona clearly demonstrated that the PAC12 should have been a zero-bid league. It's comical that we even have to refer to the PAC12 as a power conference. The AAC outshines the PAC12 in both football and basketball.

    ---------------

    You are right ASU didn't deserve it but Utah proved they deserve an NCAA bid.

    No, what "is" comical is BYU vs PAC-12:

    * Football: 4-11 (26%)

    * Basketball: 7-11 (38%)

    Hilarious 😂!

    In football, during the 3 years previous to this last year [a rebuilding year for us after losing nearly 20 kids to The NFL, including 8 draftees, a school record], we were one of only 3 PAC-12 schools to finish each year w/a winning conference record [USC/Stanford], we finished each year ranked & we were ranked in every CFP Poll since its inception @ that time.

    In basketball, during the previous 4 seasons, including this last season, only 2 PAC-12 schools have more conference Ws than we do [U of A/Oregon], not to mention a Sweet 16/3 1st round NBA draft picks/2 years finishing the year ranked/1 NIT Runner-Up.

    In baseball, 1 PAC-12 championship/postseason appearance, in spite of starting each year w/30+ games on the road/having inherent recruiting challenges.

    Not to mention gymnastics/softball, etc.

    I could go on & on!

    .......................

    It would indeed be a very strange year when BYU players are jumping to the pros. When you say "jumping to the pros" you're referring to Europe, right? There are VERY few BYU players "jumping" to the NBA these days. On the other hand the Utes are putting players in the NBA on a regular basis. Another noticeable difference between the two programs.

  • Just Truth Saratoga Springs, UT

    The Utes, the Cougs, the Frogs, the Zags have all earned higher bargaining power than teams in the MWC are willing to admit. They will blame Craig Thompson for this latest miss (again) and shout absurdities like they didn't want the Cougs or the Zags anyway, but the reality is that several teams in the MWC are pulling it down politically. They have reached their ceiling until their attitude toward successful programs changes. The WCC has smaller gyms, but they just proved they have bigger vision and are much more unified in their goals to see conference members succeed. The Zags have already proved that a good product on the floor is first priority when teams are on equal footing. Second priority is a conference that is then willing to give its best teams their due and let them shine so that conference as a whole gets pulled up and takes next level steps. The Cougs and the Gaels will need to step it up, but so will the Utes and Frogs if they are ever going to do anything more than they did in the MWC. The point is that the potential is now there for all of these programs to earn rewards they couldn't have earned with the same on field or court success to be had in the MWC.

    That forfeiture of $7M had to have been the reason they'd opted to stay, because the 'Zags would have been a better "competitive fit" in the MWC, where teams actually DO care about Basketball.

    Who knows? Maybe GU thought they could just kick the can a little further on down the road.....just to see what the rest of the WCC would do, as it relates to better scheduling. And if the league continues to be weak SOS, they might take up discussions with the MWC again. And if so, they'd better hope the MWC would still be interested.
