Coach Kry's behavior is an embarrassment to the U, himself and the State of Utah.
Anger management lessons are in order.

Well proof is in the pudding.

The PAC10 went 5-0 in the NIT and 0-3 in the NCAA. Congrats to the Utes on their win and I hope they get a chance to play some stiffer competition as they go.

The PAC 10 has shown that this was an obvious NIT year and anyone who claimed that there was strength in the PAC 10 was getting horrible scouring reports. The powerhouse team and flag bearer just got romped on their way out to Buffalo - who?

Coach Kry threw a chair, that's not safe!

Well, at least Coach Kry knows how to motivate the Utes, just act like a drama queen (king?). In the after game interviews all the players commented on how Coach Kry breaking the rules motivated them.

“Rose didn't act like a raving lunatic”

Evidently his assistants and ref thought so, the former having to restrain him and the latter to T him up. When Marvin Milquetoast goes ballistic, it’s even worse.

I already gave Coach Rose a good scolding (for what good it will do) following the DN article on the Y game. As for this contest, many will say this guy's childish behavior turned the tide. Why did it not do so through the year? You know, rant and rave, blow a gasket and get thrown out and win all the games. As for me, I think what "may" have turned the tide is the players were able to perform more relaxed, not having this guy scream at them from the bench. And this was in no way a planned effort by this guy to fire up the team. He went berserk (as did Rose), even kicking a stool on the way out. Many opinions differ on this antic, but the cause was simply rage. No way did he sit and form a plan that he would go ballistic, get his tech, get thrown out and kick a stool as he exited. Movie scenes notwithstanding, when those moments come during a game, and they come often, he has about as much control over himself as a wounded bear.

I can hope the players and assistant coaches have the greatest of success in the next game. I would be pleased to see them go all the way to the Garden.

"Rose got a technical last night. Where’s your angst over him?"

Rose didn't act like a raving lunatic, nor did he get tossed from the game.

Don't be surprised if the PAC 12 issues a reprimand because coach 80k's behavior clearly falls outside the PAC 12's rules of conduct regarding officials.

It is highly amusing seeing some people (non-Utah Utes basketball fans) handwringing and worrying about Coach Krystkowiak's behavior last night. These same folks could easily reduce their stress levels by not following the Utes--at all-- yet Coach K and his team seems to create a big ball of angst with their covert fandom and obsession of University of Utah basketball.

Kudos to Coach K, Coach Conner and most importantly--the 2017-18 Utah basketball team on last night's win!

@gonzo - you and other comments fail to mention that Sloan and Majerus both would actually coach, I have yet to see much out of LK, at least to warrant the pay we're giving him. Once he gets teams to the final 4 then you can start comparing him to Majerus, until then he's just another overpaid coach in a mediocre league. We can do better at the coaching position, especially at the price.

@cmo - lay off BYU. Losing by 3 to the #5 PAC12 team on its home court isn't an awful loss. I'm more concerned about us struggling for a chunk of the game, on our home court, against a Big Sky opponent. I'm glad we won but BYU came back hard. Why do we find it necessary to demean them just because their our rival?

    Lester -

We are talking 2 different things here. If Coach K only got just a technical I would not have commented. He has the right to complain about a bad call. But his actions of going on the court, disrupting play, acting as he did and then throwing a stool is another. Rose got a Technical. I did not see it. He has that same right but I am guessing he did not make the same choice/scene to go onto the floor and act the same way or throw a stool.

I am on this article as I am too a Ute Fan. Hard to believe to some. I wish more would appreciate the fact that both schools are great schools and have great sports programs. Why the hate is beyond me. I went to BYU but grew up a Utah fan and lived and worked at and by the U of U. My father went there in the 1930's. I would appreciate more respect by all for both Utah and BYU as I for one do not like the dislike many have for each others programs.

There is no such thing as PAC 12/WCC/MWC refs in college basketball. The refs aren't affiliated with a conference like they are in football.

The refs in basketball are distributed by geographical regions so they would officiate games in different conferences in the west.

Frank Walters - which college team are you coaching this year? I'd like to compare your coaching style and success against coach K's :)

You might want to talk with coach Sloan about being ejected from a game and its effectiveness (28 technical fouls and 7 ejections in the 99-00 season/playoffs). He seemed to be a pretty effective coach to me.

Utah started the game like they were sleepwalking last night, and the refs were making very questionable calls/no-calls. I think coach K's technical was timed well to show the team he had their back, and get them fired up.

A lot of Ute fans seem to not like him, but I'll take coach K's 5 consecutive years of 20 win seasons over the Giacoletti and Boylen years any time.

BYU may want to consider not playing Utah next year for safety reasons. Hummm seems like we heard this before.

I am a Utah fan when they are not playing BYU but this outburst was unacceptable for any coach. If Rose did it I would have the same comments. His actions made me think of another coach. Bobby Knight came to mind.

Upset at a call is one thing. Jawing at a Ref is another. Going on the court during play, making a scene and then throwing a stool or chair is just childish.

A fine should be levied and I hope he comes to his senses and apologizes but I am not one to call for his job unless he makes it a habit.

Congrats to the Utes on the win. Good luck next time.

At least, for all his tirades and ejections, to our knowledge "Lawrence" has never punched anyone. That's more than we can say about other folks associated with college basketball in the state of Utah.

It is evident from the snarky comments from TDS fans, that they didn't watch the game and are only interested in bad-mouthing Utah's coach. It is further evident from the fans' reaction at the game that they are totally in support of Coach K(West) and his staff. You don't get a standing ovation after getting kicked out unless your fans support you and understand your complaints about the poor officiating.

  • at long last. . . Kirksville , MO

The refereeing in the first half of the game was absolutely terrible. They miscalled several out-of -bounds plays; missed at least three obvious traveling calls on UC Davis; allowed all manner of physical play - grabs, shoves, pulls, by UC Davis without any calls at all. After being booed constantly by the crowd prior to half-time and as they left the floor at half-time and again upon the referees return after half-time, they had a decent second half. No more than the normal miscues by the refs. What they were doing the first half defies description.

Where did these guys come from? Pac12 referees are really quite bad, but these guys made the Pac12 refs look 'normal'.

Coach K(West) got a standing ovation after he was kicked out for objecting to one of the more obvious miscalls by the refs. These guys should never be allowed to referee any college game again - they were that bad in the first half.

I’m really hoping for a win against LSU. When a team fails to make the Big Dance—the ONLY thing good that can happen is to reel off some NIT wins. It gives younger players a small but valuable taste of the post season and the Seniors a chance to make a disappointing finish of the season a little more palatable. Beat LSU on Monday and these Utes will have nothing to hang their heads over no matter what follows. They finished much higher in the PAC 12 than predicted and they extended the season. They’ll be able to look back at that with pride—and this coach and his staff will have more than done their jobs.
