    Minnesota Ute

Let's talk NCAA tournament appearances during the Dave Rose era:

    BYU 8
    Utah 3

In BYU's most recent Sweet Sixteen appearance, BYU was within one made free throw in regulation of advancing to the Elite Eight.

In Utah's most recent Sweet Sixteen appearance, Utah was destroyed 89-67 in a loss that very easily could have a 30+ points if Gonzaga hadn't called off the dogs in the last 5 minutes.

    ..............................

Let's talk NCAA appearances overall. Utah and BYU have both been in the tournament 29 times. Utah's record is 38-32. BYU's record is, um, 15-32. In the same amount of appearances the Utes have 23 more wins. Utah's been to 16 Sweet Sixteens whereas BYU's been to only 7. Utah's been to 4 Final Fours whereas BYU's been to .......... NONE.

BYU is 6-4 in the NIT during the Dave Rose era.

    .....................

Let's talk NCAA tourney. You know. That's where the big boys play. BYU's record this century in the tourney is, ahem, 4 wins and ELEVEN losses. ONE Sweet Sixteen appearance in the last 35 years. NEVER in a Final Four.

    "Um...aren't "early exits" YOUR "brand"???"

Weren't we runner ups in the NIT recently?

Utes didn't fair well last time they faced a WCC team, which happened to be BYU; even worse was a WCC in the tourney.

Based on recent history of events, I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

BYU is 6-4 in the NIT during the Dave Rose era.
    Utah is 0-2.

Utah hasn't won an NIT game since last century.

"beating Utah is nothing new for the Cougs"...

13 of the last 19, including 10 double-digit wins, just like this season, and three 20-point wins.

The last time Utah beat BYU by 20+ points...

    last century.

btw, leading by 16 points in the final minute, this year's game could have very easily been another 20-point win for the Cougs.

re: College Football Fan Bases Most Obsessed With Their Rival

    "Congrats on being #1."

    That would be Michigan State.

#1 Spartans fans have always been obsessed with Michigan, which doesn't even consider its in-state competition as the chief rival (not even close).

#2 Utes fans have such a vitriolic hate for all things BYU that it borders on irrational.

We're talking the NIT here. BYU doesn't exit early from the NIT. Hence utes fearing a match up with BYU.

Let's be honest here. You're not a Ute fan, so you don't know what it is we'd "drool" over. And no, we WOULDN'T want to have to face Kentucky again. We'd prefer making a deeper run in the tournament.

    @tomahawk

The only reason any ute fan wouldn't want to play BYU in the NIT is because they wouldn't want an early exit

Let's be honest here, most ute fans would drool at another chance to play big brother again because when it comes to basketball, there's no other fan base in america more obsessed with it's rival than the little team on top of the hill. And given that's it's pretty much a lock that ute's can't go dancing, this would be their "championship" game.

Mean while, BYU had it's eyes on a bigger prize, but unfortunately the Zags are very very good. So here's to hoping BYU can get another team in the NIT to at least make things interesting, beating utah is nothing new for the cougs.

Beating Utah twice in one year would add lots of fun to a dismal NIT season result. Bring on the Utes again! They have beat us repeatedly in football, let's take joy in repaying the kindness in basketball. The more we play the Utes..the better! It's great fun for both fan bases. Both teams... frankly...not real good and will exit quickly.

I don't think BYU and Utah will meet in the NIT, as I have a strong suspicion that the latter will run the table in the PAC 12 Tourney.

#6 Gonzaga, which was national runner-up in 2017, has been head-and-shoulders better than Utah for the last 20 years.

So much so, that it's not even debatable.

As long as the Utes got to host the Cougars this time, I'd be okay with that. Just a good ol' fashioned home and home like pretty much every year until Utah went to the Pac-12. However, looks like the site has been updated and BYU has moved up to a #6 seed and would play Boise State with Utah projected to play Indiana.
