    @navel lint

    3. "insiders" claim the cougars would want to ride GU's coattails, irrespective of where they ultimately land.
    ...All interest is in the Y going to the MWC.
    This scenario will be determined by the MWC and GU...GU stipulating that they won't go without you. And for the record, they WON'T stipulate that!
    -----------

    haha...so much blind hate & desperate hope on your part that you're making stuff up.

    Thompson named only 2 schools, Gonzaga and BYU and didn't bother to name any of the 5 that actually expressed interest. He's revealed who he wants for expansion.

    Zeigler reported that several sources said Bulldogs coach Mark Few is involved in the Mountain West discussions and intrigued by the possibility, particularly if BYU follows. This states that Gonzaga is interested in BYU going with them and it might be a requirement by them. Jay Drew also reports "the powerhouse Zags...might get BYU to go with them to hand the WCC a one-two gut punch."

    Also the DN reported BYU's Tom Holmoe had been aware of Gonzaga-MWC talks before it was made public by Thompson.

    Sorry, but the facts don't jive with your made up story.

    BYU is desperate for a football conference. Desperate. If welcomed, they'd go back to the MWC in a heartbeat, cougar tails between their legs. Basketball doesn't matter much to BYU, if it did they'd look outside Utah County for players. But if basketball takes them back to the MWC, they'll go for it. Each year they are football independent they lose out on more recruits and then lose more on the field, hurting their PR value. And BYU is all about the PR value. I think they'd love the chance to go back to the MWC, and eventually do well-enough there to re-boot for another shot at a P5 in a decade or so.

    BYU will not be going back to the MWC as long as Craig Thompson is running the show. If BYU ever went back it would be on their terms not the MWC's. Go back to the MWC and make less money. I don't think so. Utah will be back in the MWC before BYU will be.

    Haha, Naval...

    BYU makes more than double what most MWC schools make. Gonzaga knows the move to MWC is only worth it if a few others schools come as well, and BYU was specifically mentioned. The Zags know that if they bolt with SMC and BYU, the MWC would become a really great conference. Just going to the MWC as it stands with Rice and what have you is no gain. The Zags are the big dog in the WCC. Why would they leave as the big dog to possibly get pushed around in the MWC for no real gain? Zags aren't leaving unless SMC and BYU go as well. Simple as that. They know that if they get SMC and BYU to come, then it works out well for everyone. TV revenue, league quality, etc.

    As far as this proving stuff from xert and Naval, is this a joke? It was the worst year in football in 60 years. It's an outlier. MWC isn't getting BYU in football. BYU makes more being indy, and they get better schedules anyway. Not happening, so no need to discuss. As far as basketball is concerned, go look at the last 10 years with MWC basketball. BYU, SMC and Gonzaga would come in and be at the top of the MWC, easily. It's beneficial for both sides. Both sides benefit and should do this.

    @Naval Vet "The MWC is certainly in position to start making demands if it's looking at the cougars -- which for the record, they are NOT!"

    LOL The only record you're talking about is the Naval Vet broken record regarding anything BYU.

    The MWC is down to being a one-pick for the Big Dance. And, in an actual article about Gonzaga joining the MWC, it was mentioned that GU probably would not go without BYU. BYU AD had no comment when interviewed on BYU TV other than to say he was surprised that Thompson was talking about this.

    Personally, I think nothing will happen. WCC is already a better league than MWC and the do get two seeds for the dance.

    Ralph:

    The MWC is certainly in position to start making demands if it's looking at the cougars -- which for the record, they are NOT!

    All articles I've been reading pretty much say the same things...

    1. GU is frustrated with the WCC, and would like to entertain options at pursuing another league.

    2. The MWC would be interested in GU.

    3. "insiders" claim the cougars would want to ride GU's coattails, irrespective of where they ultimately land.

    4. The MWC had shown no interest in the Y. All interest is in the Y going to the MWC. See #3.

    This scenario will be determined by the MWC and GU. The cougars will have no say in the matter. You all just have to sit idly by to see what happens, and hope that what happens is GU stipulating that they won't go without you. And for the record, they WON'T stipulate that!

    @xert

    I think this is a good move, but I think the MWC should require the Cougars to enter (in football) under a probation period, until they prove that they are able to hang with the rest of the mid majors. 9 wins with next years schedule and I'd be on board with making them legit football members. Baseball and Oly sports? We cool. But in football and basketball they should have to prove themselves worthy of MWC membership.

    ----------------

    The MWC is in no position to make demands. The only reason Craig Thompson made it public and then "name dropped " BYU completely unsolicited is because he knows the MWC is drying up and in danger of becoming the WAC the next time conferences start to realign and a conference like the AAC needs to grab new members (the MWC will be roadkill).

    BYU's athletic dept earns more than double the revenue of most MWC schools and they're just beginning to scratch the surface on revenue possibilities with BYUtv. Make no mistake about it, this was a desperate ploy by Craig Thompson to try and save his job and save his conference. The MWC is getting left behind revenue and exposure wise and are stuck in a bad TV deal to boot.

    I really like Joe Cravens. He really knows what he’s talking about and he’s a really entertaining announcer. I think it would be great if BYU and Gonzaga ended up in the MWC
