The JAZZ actually have 22 games remaining, 12 of which are at home. They are 2
games behind the current 8th seed Nuggets and 3 games behind the current 5th
seed Blazers. The JAZZ are within 3 games of 4 current playoff teams.
There's no logical reason to believe that the JAZZ don't have a
reasonable chance to finish 2-3 games better than any of those 4 teams with
their remaining schedule and make the playoffs. They aren't playing as
well as before the layoff and a win vs the Rockets tonight would be a pleasant
surprise, but there's no reason to believe they are about to go on a slide
or that they can't shake the rust off and keep playing well to finish out
the regular season.
Let's be perfectly honest, the Jazz did not win this game, the Mavericks
tanked this game. Dallas wants to tank in order to get a favorable pick in the
lottery. Dallas has made this clear as their intention. What is really happening
is the Jazz are about to go into a slide. They were weak and vulnerable against
Portland and they again showed that in this game. Let's put this into
perspective. The Jazz are still 10th in the West and in spite of a winning
streak, has not changed their position in the Western Conference. With only 20
games left on the schedule, a lot of teams ahead of the Jazz would have to lose
for the Jazz to have any chance in getting into the playoffs.
It would be a tragedy if the Jazz don't make the playoffs. The way they
are playing they could go all the way.
