Carmen, questions that arise as to the source of your testimony will come. But
those of us with similar experiences understand. Some will attribute it to
psychological phenomena solely centered within the brain--that studies have been
done that duplicate these occurrences under "controlled" conditions.
Those conclusions are mere extrapolated speculation. How does one duplicate
exactly the conditions under which an individual gets those experiences? How can
they be "peer reviewed" in a scientific setting rather than a setting
that is one of faith? My own experiences, along with those related by many
others over the years, resemble yours. But it's rejected as "peer
review" by many in the scientific world because it lies outside the natural
world of experience through the five senses.Science--including psychology
--can only go so far in their investigations. The subject comes down to where
one is willing to place his trust--completely in science, completely in faith,
or a healthy mixture of the two? I choose the latter.
I dint think that you know that I think you don't know, I hope someday
RE: Carmen. President Joseph Fielding Smith, the 10th president of the LDS
Church, said, “The Spirit of God speaking to the spirit of man has power
to impart truth with greater effect and understanding than the truth can be
imparted by personal contact even with heavenly beings.”“They tell us the Book of Mormon states that Jesus was begotten of the
Holy Ghost. I challenge that statement.” The Book of Mormon teaches No
Such Thing! Neither does the Bible!” Doctrine of Salvation. Vol 1:19.?
Joseph Fielding Smith. who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the
power of the ‘Holy Ghost(pneuma)’, and bring forth a son, yea, even
the Son of God. Alma 7:10,“The Angel answered, "The Holy
Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So
the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God(Luke 1:35
)&Matthew 1:23 "Behold! The virgin(Parthenos)
will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him
Immanuel" (which means, "God with us").
I love this column. The gospel is an enormous blessing. I couldn't live
with out it. It is what defines me and my quest for obedience with exactness.
All that I hold dear I learned to appreciate on my mission. I love to read the
biographies of the prophets. There is so much for me to learn. President was so
special. I'll miss him til we meet again. His counsel makes me a better
man, and better priesthood holder.
carmen, thank you so very much for each and every column this one really speaks
to my hurting insides
