    ----------
It is indeed unfortunate. And that's exactly what Utah fans have been trying to get BYU fans to understand... that strength of schedule isn't just a convenient excuse, it's a huge challenge keeping a team healthy and having the depth required to survive a P5 schedule. BYU played a partial P5 schedule and how'd that go? Do you think they perhaps pick up a few more wins against the soft part of their schedule (VERY soft) if they played LSU, Wisconsin and Mississippi State at the end of the year versus the front end?
BYU fans would like to think their team is stronger than the mid to low end teams in P5 conferences yet they haven't had any idea what it's like to play the schedule Iowa State plays, Oregon State plays, Minnesota plays, etc. The truth is that those teams when fully healthy would likely beat fully healthy BYU 8 out of 10 times.

There are a lot of cool Ute fans, Spokane for example is generally on topic and pretty fair on his remarks - and then there are the trolls like 2BCSwins.

BYU's injuries didn't primarily come against high school teams, if you actually follow football rather than trolling anything and everything BYU you'll notice that the start of the season was a pretty tough schedule, and the majority of the injuries happened then.

BYU is down, very down, and Utah has a mediocre at best outcome as well.

Utah was 6 points better than BYU, Boise State, Utah State, East Carolina, Fresno, and UMass are equal or bigger winners than Utah.

Both teams are finding a new style and path forward - both should improve, both needed a better offense to move forward.

Best of luck to both teams, despite current results.

You guys have been hoping for seven straight years. I know, I know, you lost 10,543 players to the NFL and this year is not as good of year, but you'll still lose about 753 to the NFL. Then we have the SOS, and the fact Hundley was hurt, and coach Whit isn't very smart, and we should of beat USC and Washington...and the beat goes on.

Only difference Utah don't make excuses about it no matter how many guys out due to injury, lost to the NFL, etc. Don't matter it's next guy up go out and compete no matter what.

All things considered it's actually nice to finish at such a warm weather venue with evenly matched teams. To consider this comparable to a bowl game is just silly though. To see my friend Kalarney busting on Utah fans, for doing the same thing he's doing, is quite comical though. All the while he's on the Utah threads taking shots. Whatever. Consider the source

Yes, this "bowl game" can be coined the Toilet Bowl, Ineptitude Bowl, Turkey Bowl, etc. But the good news is that it is guaranteed to live up to all the hype. Two very evenly matched teams, a great venue, and attractive cheerleaders are all on the line. "There was a lot of chatter at the beginning of this year about BYU getting to 10 wins."

    For good reason.

BYU was 9-4 in 2016, only 8 points shy of an undefeated season.

With a similar schedule and much of the same team returning, expecting a 10-win season was not at all unreasonable.

Unfortunately, a rash of injuries, and a couple of unexpected departures, decimated the team that BYU fans expected BYU to field.

    I've only been disappointed 2X as a fan of BYU - Crowton's 2nd year and Sitake's 2nd year. I'm hopeful that Sitake's 3rd year won't be like Crowton's 3rd year.

I still believe Sitake is the right person for the job, but big changes need to be made in the off season to ensure we don't have another losing season. I believe we were more talented than at least 4 of the teams we lost to this year, which means we need to addresses coaching, effort, execution.

As someone who lived on Oahu for 4 years (Laie, Kaneohe, and Manoa), this should be a fun game, and will undoubtedly be the best attended UH game of the year. The older UH fans remember BYU well from the old days when both teams were pretty solid, and there are a lot of BYU fans on the islands, plenty of recruits from Hawaii, along with plenty of other connections between the two schools. Heck, there were handful of BYU transfers on the UH team in just our ward in Manoa!

I expect a good turnout for both fan-bases, and both teams should have plenty of local pride to play for, despite both having poor seasons. Should be fun to watch.

BYU has a new coaching staff and a young team that has suffered a plethora of injuries (38 players have missed games because of injuries).

All of those injured players have given dozens of younger players valuable opportunities to gain live game playing experience that will pay big dividends next season.

I don't have much of a problem as I read comments that deal with 'our team is better than your team, because'. Then I read what the 'because' is and it feel like laughing. This year the Utes are much better than my Cougars. Much better. It was only a six point win for the team up north, but we were taken to the wood shed. Regarding a desirable situation for a college team, the PAC is light years beyond Independence. The Y is being out-recruited by the U, not because the U is a better university, but because they belong to the PAC. As far as a total package is concerned, I feel the Y is superior in nearly every category of university life. That comment might well open the door for one of the few Y-haters to state that one of the reasons he/she hates the Y is we feel we're better than others. Not the case...I'm not better, the Y, as a great place to gain an education, is. My opinion based upon experiences I've had while living in SLC and attending both the Y and the U.

Back to football. At this time I don't feel the Y will ever catch the U unless we are invited to a major conference. If that happens, we shall leave them far behind. Again, my opinion.

    Hey Baby,

Not that it really matters, as both teams are horrible and it really doesn't matter who wins this game, but if we are going to do comparables, there are 5 teams that they each played:

Hawaii 38 UMass 35 vs Umass 16 BYU 10; Clear Advantage Hawaii
Hawaii 37 SJSU 26 vs BYU 41 SJSU 20; Slight Advantage BYU
Hawaii 23 UNLV 31 vs BYU 31 UNLV 21; Clear Advantage BYU
    Hawaii 21 Fresno 31 vs BYU 13 Fresno 20; About a wash
Hawaii 0 USU 38 vs BYU 24 USU 40; Both horrible, but slight advantage BYU
Record in games vs common opponents: 2-3 for both teams; wash

So, if you take all directly comparable games and use that as your starting place for predicting a winner, you would have to at least give the slight edge to BYU. My prediction: 13-10 BYU. Again, not that it matters. Because they both are horrible and this is just the Ineptitude Bowl.

A "bowl-equivalent" end-of-the-season game in Hawaii honestly may be more than the team merits but I wish them well against an almost equally pathetic Hawaii team. One of the few positive things the BYU sports bureaucrats did was schedule an away game with Hawaii for this season because it allowed us to play 13 games -- meaning we were able to add Portland State at the front end of the schedule and get one win that we otherwise would not have had. If this had not been done then we would be 2-9 right now (BTW, Portland State finished their season winless).

Doing the transitive property thing, in view of our performance against USU (a game we had a chance to win if we hadn't been so uber generous with the turnovers) compared to theirs I would predict we beat Hawaii. But nothing is a given this year.

Coaches looking like they quit themselves weeks ago and have no clue what to do. No sign of Holme...he is hiding because this tragedy group of coaches is his doing. I hope they clean house and start over...in any normal program that’s what would happen. We at BYU may have to suffer through several years of this ....because that’s how kind we are to opposing teams.
Well...until I see some effort...I’m done writing checks. I can support a team/organization that shows effort, but I can’t support this level of incompetence. How we can fall so fast from being a competative team...., to this....is stunning. No..it’s very ...very ...embarrassing for BYU and the church as a sponsoring organization. We can and should do much better. This is certainly not excellence. We are now officially...a joke of a program. Thanks Holmoe.
