The Utes simply dont know how to play a zone defense. They all seem to think that they are defending the middle of the grass in their zone whey they are suppose to be defending the people in their zone. And rushing three will burn you more often than not.

I remember driving around in Utah when it was announced that Utah would join the Pac 10 and it would become the Pac 12. Fans were calling sports talk radio stations saying how Utah would dominate the Pac 12.

Saturday night I was flipping though channels on the TV. I stopped on the Washington/Utah game. There was only a few minutes left. When Washington kicked the field goal with seconds left winning the game, I found myself smiling.

Welcome to the big time boys.

No, BYU football is bad, Cougar fans get that. But Utah football is also very bad. All of you just are trying to convince yourselves that one is just as bad as another or vice versa. Instead of arguing, type in your search engines and read what Vince Lombardi said about first place. Enough said.

A one point loss to USC on national television and a thrilling game against Washington that ended on a field goal as time ran out. Disappointing losses no doubt. Consider BYU's disaster of a season their fans have no right to criticize Utah. I followed every second of both games. College football at it's best. BYU will be the only team in Utah left out of the post season. Let's hope next year shows dramatic improvement for BYU.

This was one of the amusing college football games I have watched in a long time .... It was hilarious to watch a coach so desperate for a win try an on sides kick , fake punt on 4th and 12 on your own 30 in a tie ballgame , go for it on 4th down in your own territory several times etc.... And still even after the Huskies gift wrapped an early Christmas present by playing the worse game they have played in a long while ,last chance university could not come up with a win ! This team is destined to lose 7 of the last 8 games of the year and Utes fans actually have the gull to continue to talk about the worst Cougar team in 50 yrs ?? I really think if there 2 teams played this sat. Everyone would be shocked how close this game would be .... Anyway , good luck in your annual pillow fight cellar rivalry game this week as the Buffs are coming in primed for the win !!

Utah played an amazing courageous game. The onside kick which they recovered and the fake punt showed imagination if not brilliance by Kyle Whittingham. They deserved a W. Chris Petersen kept his cool and the Huskies delivered at the end. This game has nothing to do with the Y and U rivalry. It had everything to do with two great coaches and very talented teams. I take my hat off to the U for an exceptional game. Good luck next week against Colorado.

    "Mediocre"???

We are talking about the same Utah team, right?

If you were referring to a BYU team that was 5-6, had lost 6 of their last 7, and had given up two scores in the final 58 seconds in a missed bid to become bowl-eligible, you wouldn't be calling that team "mediocre", you'd be calling that team "horrible, terrible, a disaster.

It's amazing how, with so many meaningless bowls now, that teams are actually looking forward to a bowl game with a mediocre record. (In fact, one or more teams may actually get in a bowl with a losing record.) And, of course, with the diluted resources, there will be some teams that will actually lose money by going to a bowl.

The PAC 12 is so horrible. When a team as bad as Utah goes on the road and nearly beats the supposed PAC 12 playoff team and almost beats USC this tells you how bad the PAC 12 is. It's not parity, it's just bad football. This is the same Utah team that could barely beat BYU we all know how bad BYU is.

The PAC 12 has one thing in common with the Independents. They'll be watching the ACC, Big 10, SEC, and even the Big 12 in the playoffs year in and year out just like Notre Dame and BYU will.

This was a tough loss to a good Washington team on the road. Most never gave the Utes a chance in this game, but they surprised. The offensive line still can't run block, but the pass protection was a little better in this game against a dangerous Washington pass rush. Only one turnover on a bad decision. When Huntly has time to throw, and he doesn't get happy feet, he is dangerous.

The Ute's defense still has no pass rush. Morgan had to send the house to even chase Browning out of the pocket. But the D kept them in this game and even kept them in a game last week with seven turnovers.

Progress is being made, but unfortunately it is a little to little and a lot too late.

This was a tough loss. The guys played with a lot of heart and gave it everything they had. While predicted to lose by 17 it was fun to watch the team keep fighting for the entire 60 minutes. We scored in every quarter - first time this year in PAC 12 play.

Did not mind the TO, but I do think we are running Huntly way too much. I understand the need for a running game, but it was clear that we were not going to get it there with Washingtons D line. So with 3 minutes to go why did we shift from being aggressive to conservative and run. they had to know that we would get stuffed and it would be come up short. we did. I wish that we would have continued the run and pass game.

At the end of the day it was a good game - fun to have the score so close and good to see the team working hard.

We have a lot to work on Defense needs to stiffen, O-Line need to stop the blitz and give auntly more time or open a hole. while they played better neither of these happened very well.

Here we go again. both CU and Utah are 5 -6. One will be 6-6 and bowl eligible and the other will be 5-7 and clean out their lockers. I am all in on the Ute's! it is the last game and the last opportunity. Go Ute!

Utah over the years could have a pretty decent story if they could have just figured how to get Whittingham off the field during the last two minutes.

Put him box somewhere, with 2 to go. How many times do we have to watch this?

I still have nightmares of watching him put 10 guys on pass defense against BYU with no time left and let the quarterback just roam around for what seemed like an eternity until one of the 8 BYU players popped open.

Timeouts to "ice" kickers, a millisecond before they miss a field goal.

The list goes on and on.

Give Washington credit for executing a couple of risky plays perfectly after Whittingham called timeout. If Washington had messed up, we'd all be singing Whittingham's praises, and the math-impaired fans in Washington would be all over Chris Petersen the same way they pounced on Pete Carroll at the end of the Super Bowl for playing the percentages and making a smart call that had a bad result.

The timeout call was the right one in that situation. Even ESPN's commentator said so at the time.

there were 2 first and goal series in this game where utah did not take one shot into the end zone, and settled for 3. then the inexplicable timeout near the end of the game, that gifted washington time to set up plays.

It will be tough, but I hope Utah can dust off and show up for a game where both the Utes and Buffs are playing for a bowl next week. One more win along the way would have made bowl match ups more intriguing. But now with just 6-6 as the relative scenario, I think even the Vegas Bowl is out, which I would have loved to exercise old demons against Boise State there. What's left the Cactus Bowl?

Knowing the record number of players put into the NFL from last year's team and looking at the schedule to start of the season, I was hoping for just 7-5. But then the PAC 12 was down and it looked like Utah was in the mix. Bottom line, Utah lost to USC and Washington on the road on the last play of the game. Worse, they gave those games away. Even Stanford was a winnable game, along with Wazzu. Two games lost at home by one score, but inexperience showed in those. Not having Oregon State on the schedule might be the difference in a bowl appearance. I see a carryover into the Colorado game from the heartbreaking defeat in Seattle. Remember Colorado has the late season bye and two weeks to prepare to play Utah. The Rockies is a familiar climate to both and Utah will be licking their wounds all week. The players will need to forgive coach Whittingham and care enough to go bowling and build for next year. Big name recruits have taken visits and shown interest, but Utah has laid an egg each time in their presence. Fan passion/fire will be as hard to come by as player motivation this week. Do we all want to go to a bowl and give more practice time to build the team for next year? Yes!

And it's down to the this... the last game of the season, against the Buffs, it's do or die for a bowl game for both teams...

Two teams enter, one team leaves, kind of like that post apocolyptic movie 'Thunderdome'.

Imagine a thundering herd of buffalo on this massive movie set and the natives ready for that one climatic moment to unleash their attack, a promise of a succesful hunt, winter's approaching fast, they really need this last hunt to go well. A quick flash back to the desperate women, children and old people in the village, it's been a lean year... The braves are moving the herd into their territory and...

Then Mel Brooks yells... "Cut, cut, cut! I've got an idea! Let's get a campfire scene next, go get Slim and Alex !" lol

Well...... Another let down, but i never thought it would be due to a bone head decision to hand a time out to Washington with seconds to play when they were clearly just running the clock out. Whitt says he called it becasue it was clear they were coming out agreesive....? What?

Sorry to all you die hard supporters but I hate our play calling as well. Our offense is really no different than it has been over the past several years and several offensive coordinators. Our offense will not change at all over the years to come as long as Whitt is there. It really doesnt matter who our coordinator is, it will be the same. We dont have killer instinct, Very little discipline and very little creativity. I was very encouraged tonight as i finally saw some risks being taken with the onside kick, the fake punt and going for it twice on 4th down and short. But we all could feel it tonight, i was not comfortable with 3 mintues remaining with the ball. We called it, we would be very conservative and not get the first downs. We run the same first down play almost every series.
I was proud of our team tonight though, they played hard, this one is on the coaching staff.
