    Im sorry to all of you BYU fans, but When was the last time BYU beat ALABAMA. In the Superdome. BYU needs to stop looking fourty years ago. Utah has been better for the last decade. It's just a fact.

    "We've heard the same thing said every year this decade."

    Just like we've heard about Utah playing in the Rose Bowl every year since Utah was invited to join the PAC 12 in 2010.

    The difference:

    - BYU has actually beaten Utah this decade (see 2009) and has come close several other times.
    - Utah hasn't even come close to getting a Rose Bowl
    Your so right, 7 years ago. Practically yesterday. And yes we have. We have almost won the south many times

    ESPN helps arrange made for TV games for BYU because BYU is a national brand with a national fan base, and is well known for playing an entertaining brand of football, and most importantly for ESPN, the mother ship makes $$$ televising BYU football.

    Something that, unfortunately for U, will never be said of that commuter school on the hill, which is why Utah has never played in a made-for-television game, and never will.

    Your so right. The worst offense in the country is entertaining football. When was the last time BYU played in a game on ABC. Or even just a game that had even a little national relevance. College Gameday has come to Utah twice in the last 3 years.

    The fallacy with your made up argument is that BYU's opponents in these made-for-TV games - Oklahoma, LSU, W Va, Missouri, Arizona - also have nowhere else to go.

    Not quite! Actually, ESPN helps arrange made for TV games for BYU because BYU has nowhere else to go and will play for peanuts compared to what P5 schools are getting.

    Be honest. You'd trade your independent, ESPN step-child national brand for P5 inclusion in a heartbeat.

    Utah clearly wins the cupcake bowl opponent award.

    ...

    BYU has played as many ranked bowl opponents as Utah has played bowls.

    -------------

    Wrong again!

    Utah is 4-1 (80%) vs ranked bowl teams: wins over AP #4 Bama, #24 GTech, #19 Pitt, #15 Arizona and loss to #10 Boise.

    BYU is 4-11 (36%): wins over #16 Oregon State, #14 Kansas State, #20 Washington State, and #19 SMU

    More importantly, since MWC Utah vs BYU pre-bowl opponent rankings:

    * AP top 10: Utah 1-1 (#4 #10) vs BYU 0

    * AP top 25: Utah 3-1 (#4, #10, #18, #24) 4 vs BYU 1-2 (#11, #16, #23)

    * AP top 35: Utah 9 vs BYU 9

    The difference?

    * Utah went 15-1 (94%) and BYU 7-6 (53%).

    * Utah is 3-1 (75%) vs ranked bowl teams and BYU is 2-2 (50%).

    The Rocky Mountain, Mountain States, and Skyline conferences were such pathetically weak conferences, that no bowl would even consider affiliating with any of them.

    The reason Utah only played in TWO bowls from 1902 to 1991 (NINETY seasons) is because the Utes had such a pathetically weak team.

    -----------------

    Nope!

    The only reason Utah didn't play in more bowl games with 18 conference titles was that the conference had no bowl game due to lack of bowls. That is a fact, let me prove it.

    In 1947, 8-1-1 conference champion Utah was ranked but dropped out in the final poll but 4-3-2 Duke was still ranked.

    That team didn't play in a bowl. Same for 1948 8-1-1 and 8-2 1953.

    Weak conferences? Lets have a look.

    Opponents winning percentage:

    * 1947 8-1-1 Utah: 41-43 (49%)

    * 1984 12-0 BYU: 61-84 (42%)

    How about this. By game time next year BYU becomes bowl eligible and Utah wins all their games to that point. If BYU wins they go to a better bowl and Utah still goes to the PAC 12 playoffs. If Utah wins they go to the PAC 12 playoffs BYU still has a chance to go to a bowl. I hope both teams do extremely well next year so both teams can put this year in the rear-view mirror, and have a great game next year. Lets hope both teams do the best they can for this year and reload for next year with great expectations. Good luck UTAH next year for all but the BYU game. Go Cougars

    Both teams disappointed this year.

    Hope that both rebound and have very good records going into the late season game.

    Enough so that the game brings a lot of national interest and perhaps gets picked up as a featured game for national broadcast.

    Despite the insults and faux fans, it would be a great boost for both teams if this is a meeting of undefeated and ranked teams. With perhaps Rose Bowl and NY6 implications.

    I am almost 100% sure this won't happen. But fans of both teams know that generating interest in the game is good for both schools.

    A GameDay visit to Rice-Eccles? Priceless.

    @Jello is good

    "They still have BYU and we have to be better than this year. Weber State is good this year and Northern Illinois is no push over."
    In my opinion no one will say that Utah's non-conference schedule will be considered anything but soft. Currently Northern Illinois is ranked #59, BYU is ranked #115, and Weber State is a good FCS member of the Big Sky Conference. That will again be considered one of the weaker non-conference schedules in the PAC-12!

    However when you say, "With this schedule, do well and you will be rewarded." I agree with you. Utah's PAC-12 schedule will more than compensate for the easy non-conference schedule and if Utah does well with their schedule of all 12 games, they indeed will be rewarded.

    Utah has played in 20 bowls in 123 seasons (16%)

    ------------

    BYU clearly wins the participation trophy:

    * BYU bowl record: 14–20–1 (41%))

    * Utah bowl record: 16-4 (80%)

    Nope! Bowl games started in 1930 with the Rose.

    Utah has 24 conference titles, had there been bowl games affiliated with Utah's conference then teams like this would have qualified for a bowl: 1922 7-0, 1925 6-2, 1926 7-0, 1928 5-0-2, 1929 7-0, 1930 8-0, 1932 6-1-1.

    But who cares about ancient history!

    This is BYU today:

    "In the early years, I think BYU felt that they had outgrown the conference and their people were talking about how BYU would go to the Big 12 or the Pac-10. They used to come into the Utah game always talking about who they would be playing in their bowl game.... When we started beating them, they stopped talking about their bowl game." -- Ron McBride

    The first two home games next year - Jay Hill's gang (assuming he isn't snatched up somewhere else) then UW.

    This will be fun! Weber is no slouch - the 10th best FCS team this year (per Sagarin) and third best in-state school (only 4 spots lower than #2 USU). It will be nice having Hill back on the hill.

    Except for byu, I don't see next year's OOC schedule as being "weak", and CLEARLY better than Utah's 2017 OOC schedule. WSU is one of the best FCS teams in the country, and No. Illinois is a fairly decent FBS team (currently ranked #66 by Sagarin with a win at Nebraska). Unlike this year with SJSU (#192), and North Dakota (#171), Utah's only current sub-100 opponent in 2018 is byu.

    We've heard the same thing said every year this decade.

    I predicted Utah would have a down year this year because they just lost too many quality players and were starting (again) with a new OC. I think with where the home games are this year their schedule should be just a little more favorable. Their OOC schedule could be more difficult than usual. They still have BYU and we have to be better than this year. Weber State is good this year and Northern Illinois is no push over.

    With this schedule, do well and you will be rewarded.

    Love the home schedule: Utah fans will get to see USC, Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. In addition two instate rivals - Weber State and BYU.

    Happy to see the Colorado away game is not the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. This way I am planning on going to this game to see their campus and watching a game that has traditionally (Since membership- in the PAC-12) meant so much to both teams.

    Non-conference schedule will again be considered "weak" with no high profile opponent but the conference schedule will more than compensate for it!

    The tricky part about having the harder games at home is that there's more upside and downside potential than if the hard games are on the road and the easier ones at home.

    Then again this is the PAC, half the time it seems like home field means nothing.

    Re: ekute

    Of course you dropped in the rankings after beating BYU this year. The worst offensive team in FBS had the ball with 2 minutes left with a chance to win the game. The polls actually saw the game for what it was; a mediocre team barely beating a horrible team. By contrast, the BYU games against LSU, Wisconsin, Mississippi State, and Boise State were over by halftime. That's how top-25 teams handle bad teams to move up in the rankings. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Utes were not a top-25 team then any more than they are now.

    There’s your “Super Bowl”, now scheduled in a prominent last game of the regular season. Please stop whining. The SB party will be at Greg Hughes’ house.

    Could be an pivotal rivalry game. BYU coaches could be coaching for their job. A loss there could be last game for many of the coaches (assuming they last that long).

    No Oregon State or Cal games next year will result in a very difficult schedule.

    We get the tougher opponents at home in Washington, USC, and Oregon which will increase our chances. Having to play the weaker opponents at their place will make those games a little harder.

    With a year under our belts with our young team I see more wins next year even with the high SOS.

    Probably a 7 or 8 win season.

    Real question: Will there be a new OC?

    The sad truth is, unless both teams improve the last game of the season could be for an invite to the Las Vegas Bowl; or even worse the closes thing either team gets to a bowl. I certainly hope not; but this year has been brutal for both programs.
