It was the right call to go for 2 in this situation. Both scenarios were less than 50/50 propositions. Utah was the better team in the 1st half, and USC was the better team in the second half. In overtime USC probably scores a touchdown, and the Utes probably don't.

2 point conversions historically are 38% successful, and with Troy Williams quarterbacking probably only 30%. However, that is still a better chance than winning in OT the way the second half was going.

Correct coaching decision, just didn't work out. If Williams would have looked up the Utes would have won. The play worked, other than the QB seeing the wide open receiver 10 yards directly in front of him.

That being said, I thought Williams played his heart out the entire game.

Oregon is scary. how many times have we seen them go bland to start then all of a sudden they click and are amazing.

That's the thing about some of the PAC teams, a whole bunch of them sometimes sputter at the start then turn it on as they work out the wrinkles - meanwhile Utah seems to be the perennial dark horse until losses happen then they never recover.

Good luck Utes, but it might prove to be a long season.

Both teams need to do the same thing - install the new offense and pull out some wins!

Dude, I don't know. BYU stinks for sure and would need to win all six games to get there. Utah is way better, but ASU and Colorado may be your only games you are favored in where BYU most likely will be favored in every game except maybe the last one in Hawaii.

I think Oregon is also a very winnable game. That being the case we'll be at 6-2 by Oct. 28, BYU MIGHT be 3-6.

It was a good call, the Utes had them, but the QB just got tunnel vision when he decided to run. We had guys open. Not sure what the QB saw, but I know he didn't see Carrington standing all by his lonesome in the corner of the end zone. Right call, bad decision by the QB.

and go for tie and over time? the Utes D couldn't stop USC in the second half, no way were they going to be able to do it with a short field. Momentum matters in a decision like that. and The Utes didn't have it.

Us BYU fans need to look one year back to losing to Utah by a point.

Whittingham and sitaki both made the right move.

Ty and Troy both made the wrong playcall.

You can talk all you want about stats, momentum was 100% USC at the time as it was last year where the final drives left BYU without key guys on both sides of the ball and momentum with Utah. Coaches look at the circumstances, not the statistics.

Going for 2 was wrong a few years back when BYU had a momentum change against BSU and went for 2.

So sorry it didn't work out, it was the right call for sure.

Going for two was absolutely the right call. If they would’ve made it, everybody would be slapping coach WNottingham on the back. Carrington was wide open in the end zone, it could’ve easily went the other way. They would’ve got gashed in overtime, I applaud coach whittingham for having the back bone to do that. Hindsight is 2020. Onward and up word, go Utes

Easy to blame Williams for not seeing Carrington.

Sorry folks, but it's near impossible for any quarterback to see everything.

    Hind sight is easy.

Horrible play call. Two point conversions are only successful 38% of the time. When they are made, luck has to be involved because somebody on the defensive side missed an assignment.

To say utah is getting better each week, how do you figure? They've lost their last two games. USC looked a little flat to me, figuring that they had a bye week playing u. Line these same two teams up next week and USC wins going away...not even close. The dreams of utah playing in a bowl might happen, but it won't be any better bowl than Boise, Colorado State or San Diego State gets. Welcome back to the MWC.

Face it, utah isn't that good. Only one win against a team with a winning record.

    @Wotan

"Going for two was a low percentage call given the Utes track record in the red zone"

You serious? Which do you think is lower percentage - Troy Williams with one play from 3 yards, or Troy Williams with 3 plays from 25 yards?

Stats show that the visiting team has a 30% chance of winning in overtime. I would take a 50% passer with one chance from 3 yards over those odds any day, and so would you.

Going for two was the right call last night. It would be the right call today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year.

Sorry Mr Rock, but I disagree. I think it was the wrong call. Kick the extra point. Then whatever happens in OT, happens. There was no way the Utes were going to convert the 2 point play.

Correct call. The defense was getting shredded the entire second half. There was no way they would have stopped them in overtime. The play call was correct. Too bad we have a quarterback who panics too soon and keeps his head down when he decides tuck it and run. Carrington was wide open.

He sure made the right call as for me a USC alumni I loved the finish.

Two point conversion was the right call. We had several key defensive players who were out with injuries by the 4th quarter which gave USC Offense the advantage. It was a good play with Carrington wide open. I don't know if Troy didn't see him or what, but a little more patience and this would have succeeded instead of coming up just short.

Looks to me like Utah is getting better every week. Still has a way to go but its looking encouraging.

Carrington standing alone in back of end zone. The world saw it, Williams did not. That would have been game-set-match...

Going for two was a low percentage call given the Utes track record in the red zone, but I trust that Coach Whittingham made the right decision. He knows his team better than anyone else. Darnold had the Trojans rolling. They were marching to the endzone with every possession because Whittingham's defense was tired after being on the field for almost the entire second half.

The game was well-played and intense. Much of what Rock says shows a defeatist attitude. Had the extra point been kicked, that game was only starting.

Troy Williams had a shocked look on his face when he learned Wittingham was going for two. It was a shame that game ended because of a poor coaching decision.

It was the correct play call just like it was for Sitake a year ago in Salt Lake City.
Scenarios in the minds of Ute fans today:
    1. They make the two point conversion and Kyle is a hero for making the call.
    2. They do not convert (which happened) an Kyle made a horrible call
    3. They tie the game with the extra point try (a kick) go to overtime and lose. Kyle still made a horrible call and had no faith in his team to win it in regulation.
    4. They tie the game with the extra point try (a kick) and go to overtime but score and win. Kyle still had no faith in his team to win it in regulation.

The only way Coach Whit wins in this scenario is to go for two and convert.

Sorry Mr. Rock. Just as BYU tried a year ago against Utah, the odds are strongly against you. Less than 50/50. The only reasons to go for two is you don’t believe in your kicker’s ability to make the extra point, you do not have any confidence in your offense to move the ball in the red zone, or you have too to tie the game. Just like BYU, Utah will have to wonder what if for another year.

That was a horrible call by Whitt. He had no faith in his team so he laid it all out there on one single play. I love it and the fact that the ute are now bound for the same bowl as SUU. I would be willing to bet anyone that BYU gets to 6 wins before the u does. Drink it up red pepsi can fans.
