Cougsndawgs"What's laughable is that you and uteology care
so much to do all the research. I do enough real research in my job to take up
my time without researching 3-4 inconspicuous years with Cal where Taylor was
nothing more than a clipboard holder."Only in WACistan is
"knowing what you're talking about" considered "laughable",
and "ignorance" is "celebrated". And for what it's worth,
THAT's what's "laughable".And no, you don't
do "real research" in your job. It's obvious that you don't
know how to do that sort of thing, because if you did, then you'd have
known that such research takes less than 15-sec. to do. Or at least that's
about how much time it takes someone who DOES know how to do research.Fail.
NV:"No, what's "laughable" is your inability to do simple
research!"What's laughable is that you and uteology care so
much to do all the research (maybe Utah can hire you two to be "grad
assistants" that research zingers and halftime trivia). I do enough real
research in my job to take up my time without researching 3-4 inconspicuous
years with Cal where Taylor was nothing more than a clipboard holder. But
you're obviously someone who cares about being right all the time so to
preserve your complex I'll admit that I was wrong to say he had NO
experience. Yay! Now you can pat yourself on the back and go back to digging up
trivia and ute-lore anecdotes. Everyone else only sees his real
experience as HS QB camps and FCS OC, especially when his obscure
"experience" you point to was nearly two decades ago. And, again, that
was the bottom line...why would a blue chip QB like JT go to a school
that's never produced any hardware from that position and guided by an OC
who's only FBS "experience" was a grad assistant and position coach
17 years ago?
Cougsndawgs:Nope. You WERE wrong, and you KNOW it! You
specifically highlighted Coach Taylor's coaching pedigree by claiming he
had "no FBS or P5 experience", and I just proved to you that he had all
of the above. You did NOT say that he had "no FBS or P5 experience as an
OC". I proved you wrong, and that's why you're now trying to move
the goal posts. You were wrong. Own it!Furthermore, Ute fans
pointed out Detmer's lack of collegiate coaching experience, because he had
no collegiate coaching experience. He'd only coached high school. Taylor
coached at the collegiate level as an OC at an FCS school, and as an asst. coach
at the P5 level. And most OCs don't just start out as an OC. They earn
their stripes coming up from within the ranks -- such as "graduate
assistant" roles, then "asst. coaching" roles, and finally, a
"coordinator" role. And since Taylor had more of that under his belt
prior to coming to the U than had Detmer prior to coming to the Y, you've
got nothing! How miserable for you.
NV:Does he have experience being an OC or a coach of any consequence
before calling plays for a juggernaut like Eastern Washington? No...that's
what I meant. If you want to count little grad asst and positions coaching than
all the hoopla about BYU coaches lacking experience from ute trolls was hogwash.
There's nothing in his experience that suggests he'll be a better OC
than all the other has-beens U've hired, and certainly not better than a
guy who played more than 1 year in the NFL and won the highest award in CFB,
especially for a QB. So I'm NOT wrong...it was a questionable
decision for Tuttle to put his career in the hands of an inexperienced OC who
hasn't proven himself at the FBS level. I'm not embarrassed at all, I
don't give 2 squats what TT did as a grad asst and receivers coach. His
only real coaching experience (calling plays) are in HS and FCS Eastern Wash.
Cougsndawgs:"...it's laughable how some of U trolls think
an FCS offensive coordinator (with no FBS or P5 experience...)"No, what's "laughable" is your inability to do simple
research! Troy Taylor....(1) ...played for a school in a
"power" conference (Cal)(2) ...played in the NFL (NY Jets)(3) ...coached at the FBS level (Colo and Cal, from 1995-2000)So
there ya have it! Taylor DID come with P5/FBS experience, which
means......you were WRONG!How embarrassing for you.
Some writers and recruiting services are predicting McKee goes to BYU...so
Harmon is jumping the gun a little, who cares. Some Ute trolls grasp at the
tiniest little things to criticize...sad.And it's laughable how
some of U trolls think an FCS offensive coordinator (with no FBS or P5
experience, which was criticized ad nauseam about BYU's new coaching staff)
is somehow more knowledgeable and qualified than...oh I don't know, a 14
year NFL veteran and Heisman Trophy winner who is installing a pro style
offense. It begs the question, why would Tuttle choose a school that hasn't
produced anything but Alex Smith who lost his job to the likes of Colin
Kaepernick? And Alex was Urban's guy, not Whitt's. Questionable
decision, Tuttle...very questionable.
If an athlete is LDS, there will be DN articles suggesting that he will end up
in Provo. That you can bank on.
Everyone is on here bragging about BYU QB's in the NFL; but how long has it
been since a BYU QB actually started in the NFL? It seems like it's been a
"If McKee wants to enter the NFL at some point, why would he ever pick BYU
as the team that would get him there? Their track record isn't all that
great in that respect."True, BYU has such a poor track record
with putting QBs in the NFL.And who is Detmer to be giving QB advice
anyway?Spot on guys, way to nail BYU hard on that one.
Surf is Up:"Austin Collie was right."Is that why
Max lost so badly at Utah the year after Collie's statement? I guess Collie
was the only one that did then, am I right? byu 1-7 against Utah since that ill
conceived statement. Unless you are saying the Utah lives right on and off the
field. It sure has been #Magic at Utah these last 10 years! It seems
like McKee will be a can't miss player wherever he ends up. I hope he ends
up where he believes will be the best place for him. Right now he has his
mission to look forward to/prepare for. Hopefully he will be left alone during
those two years so he can concentrate on what he was sent out to do.Go Utes!Looking forward to the King Tut era.2017 -
Year of the Troys!
"BYU QB's who won a Super Bowl - 4Ute QB's who've won a
Super Bowl - 0Yeah, that comment made sense."MurrayMike:More than yours, unless LaVell (with Elvis) is still
here and getting the band back together. Either that, or you're still stuck
in the 80's. And I only count 3, with Marc Wilson
"winning" his ring by carrying a clipboard.
If McKee wants to enter the NFL at some point, why would he ever pick BYU as the
team that would get him there?Ha ha ha ha.....Let's
see...BYU QB's who won a Super Bowl - 4 Ute QB's
who've won a Super Bowl - 0Yeah, that comment made sense.
If McKee wants to enter the NFL at some point, why would he ever pick BYU as the
team that would get him there? Their track record isn't all that great in
that respect.Harmon's writing about him simply because
he's LDS and communicates with Ty Detmer. That doesn't mean that
Tanner will end up at BYU. He's got a lot better schools and football
programs to consider over BYU.
"If I were a Ute fan the phrases "an athlete like Travis Wilson" and
"built like a linebacker" would seriously worry me."OldBNStupid:Which is why you're not a Ute fan. But if he
holds a signing press conference at a sports bar and talks about national
championships, THAT would seriously worry me.
OBNS, you realize the "like Travis Wilson" comment was about McKee,
If I were a Ute fan the phrases "an athlete like Travis Wilson" and
"built like a linebacker" would seriously worry me.
"the overwhelming majority of which likely talk to him "frequently."
"Gordon, spot on analysis as always! So we can all
follow their Twitters, please give us the reference and person where you learned
the following schools are in contact frequently: Colorado, Houston, Purdue. That
should be plenty for you to demonstrate your pure knowledge on the topic.
@surf is upThat's ancient history. Don't even remember what year
that was. If good things happen to people who don't play on Sunday, then
why hasn't BYU beaten Utah since 2009?
Nice update, Dick! These are the kinds of articles we need to be reading as
we're waiting for fall practices to begin!
Classic DNews pro-byu-p spin: Three big time commits with Utah ties -- a Lehi
QB, a Utes commit... and, uh, an LDS guy who is THINKING about byu-p.LOOOL!!!Classic Harmon homering.
Rightfully this story should have been about TWO quarterbacks with Utah ties.
One is Cameron Cooper from Lehi, Utah and committed to Washington State. The
other is UTAH's commitment, Jack Tuttle who is wowing at the 7 v 7
showcases. Tanner McKee, on the other hand, has signed with no Utah
college and only talks with BYU's offensive coordinator. He's also recruited by Alabama, ASU, BSU Colorado, Duke, Georgia,
Houston, Louisville, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon State,
Purdue, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, UTAH and Va Tech....the
overwhelming majority of which likely talk to him "frequently." Which of these is not like the others? Tanner McKee!
So byu-p hasn't signed any of these yet. Why is the Dnews writing about
"...he didn’t play on Sunday but it worked in his favor because he
came out on Monday fresh and with no practice reps Sunday, he performed at a
high level..."Austin Collie was right. Good things can/will
happen... Of course that statement just incensed certain fans whose team had
victory stolen out from under them that day.Best wishes for all
Coach Whitt: a QB built like a linebacker can still play QB - keep him on
Dick, Thanks for the informative article. And good luck to all three young men
this year and in college. Go Cougs!
Suddening coaching staffs at all the schools recruiting McKee, other than BYU,
have developed great respect for the Mormon people and how they stick to their
guns. 12 or more head coaches remembered a neighbor that was a Mormon and what a
great guy he was, "always kept a nice lawn".
