Breaking news!! The Georgia special election goes to the GOP ! Dems are now 0-5 in special elections since November. The left wing press tried to sell the nonsense that Trump voters were abandoning him but election results state the opposite. People who voted for Trump are even more happy now 7 months later. So the moral to this story is be careful what you read and realize that Democrats and their press are desperate. In this Georgia election they brought in 25 million in Hollywood money attempting to steal the election with some no-name rich kid who didn't even live in the 6th district. All for nothing -- they lost again. People are not buying what the left is selling but don't expect them to change tactics. Identity politics is all they have.

Re: "How quickly do individuals like Gina forget. In fact, the vitriol can be taken back to the Clinton years"...
Actually if you remember the vitriol between the President and the media... it goes back to Nixon.

Nixon hated the Press with a passion I've never seen, and the press hated him. Even worse than Trump. And I'm not talking about during the Watergate investigation (his second term). I'm talking about day one of Nixon's first term (same as today).

Nixon was very open about his disrespect for the media and their slanted coverage of politics. He made harsh comments about the press that would make Trumps comments look tame. And the press hated Nixon with the same passion.

Nixon made his own mistakes that brought his presidency down in the end, but the Press was out to get him from the beginning. The press was very happy for the part they were eventually able to play in bringing Nixon down. They relished their role in bringing him down.

I have no doubt Trump will eventually make a mistake, and the press will pounce. And he will be driven out of office.

The hatred between Republican Presidents and the press will only grow.

"I wouldn't suggest that this vulgar hate persona from Democrats and the far left represent America because American values run contrary to all of this and always have."

I wouldn't suggest that anyone who continues to support Donald Trump hasn't a clue what "American Values" really are...but I will.

Mrs. Pulsipher nails it on the head that the left has it out for Trump and the Republican Party. What she misses, however, is that the vitriol and distasteful rhetoric are coming from both ends. I remember coming home from my mission a few months before the primaries began and being absolutely disgusted at the state of American politics - something I hadn't had to think about or deal with for two years. The party I had supported all my life had devolved into a complete circus, and the other side wasn't any better.
Indeed, what has happened to the America I know and love?

How quickly do individuals like Gina forget. In fact, the vitriol can be taken back to the Clinton years, and was ratcheted up even more in 2009 when Obama took office. Vicious, racist, rants and attacks were at town hall meetings, on social media, and from rightwing media, and towards a man who had competency, intelligence, knowledge, class, and compassion, all of which the current occupant of the White House seemingly lacks. Obama was portrayed as a fascist, socialist, Nazi, communist, African dictator. He and his family were depicted as apes and Michelle as transgender on social media. The anger and animosity is not the exclusive domain of liberals nor conservatives. It has been going on for decades.

I wouldn't suggest that this vulgar hate persona from Democrats and the far left represent America because American values run contrary to all of this and always have. This hatched up hate was amped up by Democrats after November 8th and continues to find its way into all sorts of venues as seen from the recent Trump assassination play in New York. It reminds me of ugly trends in movie making where one director will push the envelope with some shocking content in a movie then other producers follow once they see that parts of the public accept it or even like it. Democrats find safety in numbers and tend to find their justification of this trash easier as more of them adopt this line of expression. It truely is "the worst" of America and these bottom feeders think they are somehow catching the public eye. Well they are correct in catching the public eye but as in the 2016 election it won't be what they hoped for -- quite the opposite. People aren't stupid and they aren't fooled by this message of hate. This left wing nut that opened fire at the baseball game is a product of this whole ginned up hate agenda from left.

"And I've never in my life seen the media and the late night comics foaming at the mouth and in such a hurry to disrespect the new President and his party."

January 16, 2009, Rush Limbaugh -- told his millions of listeners that his “hope for the Obama presidency” was “I hope he fails.” In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity the day after Obama was sworn in, Limbaugh doubled down, saying: "We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president."

You missed Glenn Becks tirades, culminating in "Obama hates white people".

No I'm not talking about satirists. Public officials in California, Washington, and Kentucky all portrayed Obama as a monkey in speeches and emails. Russia even got in on the act.

Trump is mocked for his immoral behavior, his daily display of an inability to contain a coherent thought (AHCA best thing ever, then mean, very mean), and yes we vehemently oppose his policies, but we don't hold a candle to McConnell saying on day one he would block everything going forward.

Show us where you got that little factoid. It sounds like fake-news source to me.

You know you shouldn't believe anything until you can verify it. Did you try to verify your 74% comment before posting it?

I would like to try. Give us something we can google to find it and verify it.

At least name the right-wing-extremists who committed the "domestic terrorist acts" in the past ten years (the 74% you were talking about). So we can verify their political background.

Can't be Oaklahoma City. That was way more than 10 years ago. More than 20 years ago. And everybody condemned what they did. Even right-wing extremists.

Do you consider BLM prosteters to be right-wing extremists? I don't. How many cops have been ambushed and killed by BLM protesters?

Was shooter at Dallas BLM rally (who was intentionally targeting white police officers) a "Domestic Terrorist"? He killed 5 police officers and injured another 8 police officers and another 2 civilian protesters at the BLM rally in Dallas.

74% number is Fake news unless verified.

Your comments are a perfect example of what I was talking about in my first comment.

You point out the satire comic strip people mistreated Obama. Well, that's kinda their job. But that's different than the sincere hate we get in the comments here.

Satire comic strip folks poke fun at all President's (not just Obama). You are just blind when they did it to Bush and hyper-sensitive to when they did the same thing to Obama. I remember the distasteful satire comics on Obama. But they did the same thing to Bush. I remember comic strips with drawings of Bush as a monkey, as Hitler, as a donkey, as many distasteful things. You just ignore that and only focus on when the same satire people poked at the President when he was from your party, or was a minority race. But there was satire when Bush was president too.

And I've never in my life seen the media and the late night comics foaming at the mouth and in such a hurry to disrespect the new President and his party.

I watch Jimmie Fallen. I count the Trump jokes before he moves on to anything else. Sometimes his monologue is 100% Trump/Republican jokes. Not when Obama was President.

IMO most of the comments in response to his perfectly legitimate question are perfect illustration of what's wrong with us, and what's wrong with America, and what happened to the America most of us grew up in.

    Bitter and hate-laced partisanship.

It didn't just start 5 months ago. But it hasn't always been this bad in the past. The hatred some have for the President and any Americans who support him today is the worst I've seen in my lifetime.

I see "Kill Trump" spray painted on the walls of buildings I pass daily on Trax. I saw "Kill Trump" signs in the windows of several businesses on main street in SLC the day after his inauguration. And many hate-filled posters in the foodcourt downtown the Monday after inauguration for the anti-Trump women's march.

There's too much hate in America today. That's what's wrong with America. And that's what's destroying the America I grew up in. Hate. Partisan hate. That's the problem. Well... that and the new pop-culture notion that it's OK to kill as many people as you can if you get mad. The notion being taught to our youth by radicals, that violence is a perfectly OK response to being angry. That's also a big problem.

Aw shucks. I was just trying to give credit where it is due.

The GOP has secured all the reins of power in USA. Yay conservatives! What you see is what you get.

For 'conservatives' and the GOP... this is as good as it will it will ever get. Let that sink in.

The modern conservative movement arose 60 years ago from the efforts of a lot of smart and sincere folks who dedicated their careers to building a coherent framework of policy and ideology. Take a good look at the person in the White House, and his desparate synchophants who control Congress. Let it sink in some more.

There is little to argue about...I am just giving the victorious Republicans an exceedingly slow clap of the hands. Well done.

  • UtahBlueDevil Durham, NC

Mike... there were bogus news stories in the last election. I see you say one thing... then you immediately contradict that doing something completely opposite. Two examples for you. One - the pizza place in DC that was supposed to be a from for a child abuse ring.... false and yet repeated often. Second - that a democratic staffer was killed because he was the source of leaked stories about Clinton. Again, proven false, and still spread around daily, and promoted on FoxTV until they made the commentator stop.

    False stories happened.

And yes, you are right about we can learn from the lessons of the scriptures. But you forgot one very important one. Pride. Societies fail when parts of it feel superior to other parts - for what ever reason. The fall was always preceded by pride. And we see this here, everyday, in black and white. One group pontificating how they are so much better than another. We are turning neighbor against neighbor - because of pride.

So your premise was right... you just picked the wrong root cause. Pride is so much more insidious and dangerous.... Just remember the book of Mormon - "and there were no -ites among them".

Then you went on about the difference between trump and bush and accused me of buying into what you describe as trump's derangement. Please show me where I back trump anywhere in this thread; you cannot because I did not.

it's telling that you would accuse me of something I did not do. It is also telling that you would say the left did not attack bush's morality or humanity. Perhaps you did not personally, but the left sure did, and continues to so

Most people deal with the world around them by evaluating problems and possible solutions from multiple perspectives:

    Truth vs. Lies

    Reality vs. Fiction

    Ethically/Morally Defensible vs. Ethically/Morally Indefensible

Often, there are no easy answers:

    Justice vs. Mercy

Individual Freedom vs. The Rule of Law

    Minority Rights vs. Majority Rule

Today our president consistently and belligerently acts as though every problem before him is evaluated from one, and only one, perspective:

    Trump Wins vs. Trump Loses

And that's why so many people are, justifiably, deeply unhappy with him and with those who support him.

libs think what??? There is a vast difference between a mans core morality, and accusing him of war crimes for a policy decision he made based on a lie that took the lives of thousands of Americans.

It's telling that you don't see the difference. Bush was mislead and perpetrated the lie that costs American lives. Trump has a fundamental lack of caring for the truth. It doesn't matter to him and many like yourself seem to have bought into his derangement.

The creation of the fake news meme could well be one of the single most dangerous occurrences in modern America.

If you don't like it it's fake...regardless of the facts. Truth is irrelevant. Of course there is true fake news..news that isn't supported by facts. However in Trump world facts just aren't relevant.

Again, all President don't tell the whole truth all the time..Regan 25%, Bush l 25%. Clinton, 25%, Bush ll 25%, Obama 25%..yes you can keep your doctor, Hillary 25%, Trump 75%.

Anguished letter writer asks: "What is happening to my America?"

Answer: exactly what you were told would happen.

    Shall we recap?

Trump is as incompetent, dishonest, and erratic as he was when he entered the GOP primary...and later campaigned for President.

So...now Trump is not doing things he promised, those policies he has attempted have been bungled, and he spends his time limited focus on the inexplicable and obsessive distractions that have nothing to do with running the massive and complicated Executive Branch.

None of this is unexpected, right?

Oh yeah...about those GOP majorities in the U.S House and Senate. Republicans there lack the ability, will, or substance to legislate no less than when they did not control Congress.

Now Congress is doing less than it was before, unless you count maneuvering to be selected for VP slot after the inevitable desperate attempt to install Pence in the Oval Office.

Did you really expect something different? This is the 21st C. GOP we are talking about. What is happening in America is presumably what folks like you wanted. Enjoy it while it lasts.

To know what is happening to America now requires that we know what happened to two major civilizations that predate us. Modern prophets have warned us that the Book of Mormon is for OUR times. Two major civilizations destroyed themselves when immoral people gained power and then ensnared others through secret combinations. The net result is that those two civilizations were destroyed from within.

Even a brief study of bogus "anonymous sourced" news stories shows that people in high places have joined together to destroy our nation because they lost power in the last election. That type of activity has happened twice before. As Ether told us, this nation will only stand as long as its citizens worship Christ.

It may be too late. Good people have done nothing while immoral and ungodly people scheme. It truly is time to drain the swamp.

But what alarms them most (and their fellow countrymen) is what they called the viciousness of our president and some of our news media.

In fact, when I met them, they told of having listened to a radio station out of Idaho Falls. On it they heard what they described as the "most vile, disgusting, bizarre and hateful things we have ever heard on any radio station anywhere."

At first, they thought it was Trump but then I explained it was actually Rush Limbaugh. They simply couldn't believe that someone like that could have any support at all from sponsors or listeners. They said it explained a lot.

They also told of how people around the world are watching with dismay, amusement and complete disgust what our "leaders" are doing. It scares other people because "What happens in America affects all of us."

are you referring to the 30 million who still lacked insurance even with Obamacare, or the untold millions forced to buy policies but who still cannot afford care due to high deductibles and co-pays?

Seriously? Obama was accused (by Trump) of not even being an American citizen. He was accused of being Muslim, he was pictured as a monkey, a shoe shine boy, and Aunt Jamima. His wife was called a very crude racial name, and we're not talking single incidents here were talking a barrage for 8 years.

What's happened to "your" America? You all elected a man who bragged about assaulting women, who bragged about his infidelity, who openly questions the legitimacy of judges, the intelligence community, who has been repeatedly rated as lying 75% of the time.

What is happening to your America is a couple of things. First, it's not just your America. There are those, a fairly substantial majority actually, who dislike trump and did not vote for him. This does not, of course condone violent or unacceptable behaviour. But, the emperor has no clothing and the press and late night comedians can point it out.
Second, what is happening to your America and mine is a polarised anger like no other. Aristotle told us to find the mean, the average, and that anger will push us to opposite sides of the spectrum away from the average. Myself, I trace that back to the time when top 40 left AM radio, to be replaced with programming that allowed people to see themselves as victims.
