Why all the chatter, noise and debate...

    6 in a row.

    Done and done.

Hey Bluto (your screen name speaks volumes)

Bring out your bravado when you've actually beat Utah.

    @ johnnysl and spookieute

As of now, it looks like 15 Utah players have NFL agreements with teams and BYU has 11 players with NFL agreements.

Guess what...? None of these are guaranteed at this point and all of them still have to make the final cut to get on a roster.

    It's tryout time.

    Hey Ute fan..
Bring out your bravado when you've actually won a league title.

I though U guys don't view BYU as your rival anymore?
    Your comments beg to differ.

    @Brother Roscoe

    you asked:
"Are there really any legitimate comparisons between the 2 programs?
    Don't think so."

    You are absolutely correct...

-One program has produced a "Unanimous" National Championship.
-One program has produced a Heisman Trophy, Outland, Walker, Baugh, O'Brien and Maxwell Award winners, (17 in all).
-One has produced 18 Top-25 rankings.
-One has produced 23 Conference Championships.
-One has produced Super Bowl & NFL MVP's
-One program has a big-boy stadium and is on National TV every week.
    -One has their own network.
-One has a National fan base.
-One is a Tie -1 Academic Institution.
-One has top notch facilities that are actually paid for!
-One is a National Brand with "Generational" Legacy.

And one has none of these things...
    That be "U".

U fans carping about their big draft day, ignore the fact that not all of those drafted make rosters and many free agents do.

It reminds me of a couple years ago when Rutgers had 5 players drafted and Nebraska had none. Does anybody really think this made RU a superior program to Nebraska?

Conference Patches and a good draft day does not a Legacy make.

As a die hard Utah fan I can admit that team underachieved last season, given the talent on the field.
Those issues have been addressed, combine that with a top 25 recruiting class , as Jordan would say "The ceiling is the roof".
With that said, not even sure why Taysom is even being mentioned in the same breath as these draftees or why byU fan is talking smack about only losing by 1? Where was that logic when U got housed by 44? Are there really any legitimate comparisons between the 2 programs? Don't think so.
    Sad days down in P-town.

    Worf,

Congrats on your loss. Can you imagine being reduced to bragging about a lose to your rival. I love it, it's Karma.

15 Utes either drafted or signed as FA. That says a lot for the senior class and hopefully won't leave a huge void. Time to reload

"So! BYU lost by one point to a team with eight draft picks"

    dorf:

So if your legacy, nat'l brand powerhouse team played Utah so tough, why did it only produce one draft pick?

    hi-ya,

The rankings I reference are the CFP rankings.

Washington was one of four teams selected to participate in the Championship tournament, meaning they were viewed as one of the best four teams in the nation. At the time, the committee viewed WVU as #16.

UW finished the season #4, WVU finished #18.

CU and BSU are not equals either. Colorado finished the season #17. BSU finished the season unranked.

Utah and California shouldn't be viewed as comparable. Yes, Utah lost to the Bears, but the Utes finished the season ranked, and California did not.

Comparing UCLA to Oregon is probably reasonable. They both underachieved, played comparable schedules as far as difficulty is concerned, and were both unranked.

You said, "BYU comes out on the edge here with a record of 33-18 against Utah's 33-19."

Well, BYU's opponents played easier schedules. They were 2-9 against teams in Sagarin's top 30. Utah's opponents went 3-14.

Utah went 3-0 against non P5 teams, and 6-4 against P5 teams.

BYU went 6-1 against non P5 teams, and 3-3 against P5 teams.

Utah beat USC, who finished the season #3. BYU did not beat a ranked opponent.

Utah was ranked #23. BYU was unranked.

As to my Question of Utah and BYU win/loss record the same last year and Utah getting 8 Draft picks and BYU only 1... why didn't they have a better record? Possible Answers:
    1. BYU gets more out of their players than Utah does.
This one has merit. BYU for years has shown that the three star players it gets
outperforms schools with 4 star recruits.
    2. Utah's losses were to better teams than the ones BYU played.
    Maybe, but lets compare:
Utah's loss to Washington 12-2 compares with BYU loss to West Virginia 10-3
Utah's loss to Colorado 10-4 compares with BYU loss to Boise State 10-3
Utah loss to California 7-5 compares with BYU loss to Utah 9-4
Utah's loss to Oregon 4-8 compares with BYU loss to UCLA 4-8
BYU comes out on the edge here with a record of 33-18 against Utah's 33-19
    3. Utah deserves the record they got, they just aren't that good… maybe.
    4. BYU is under-rated and deserves better recognition… maybe.

All I know is that come next September 9th the Battle starts all over again and like a lot of you out there, it will be fun to see who is better than whom.

he said: If the Utes got 8 players picked in the draft and BYU only got 1, why wasn't their record last year better??? ... if you got so many picks in the draft this year... I mean look at it, you tied with Florida and LSU at 8. ... why didn't you have a better record than 9 wins and 4 loses?

    -------

    1) No, your brother isnt a Ute fan and no that convo never took place. This is an attempt to lend "weight" to byu-p fans' smack retribution and get Utah fans to listen up. Fail.

    2) The climate in byu-p nation has reached truly pathetic levels.

In the old days, it was all the victories and national respect byu had over Utah. Now it's "you only beat us by one point" and "yeah you had 8 drafted but wow why wasn't your record better than 9-4 last year?"

    LOL!!!

    Absolutely embarrassing.

The verdict is in. And that verdict is, Utah has lapped byu-p in everything for more than a decade now.

So! BYU lost by one point to a team with eight draft picks, on their home field, with a new coaching staff, and schemes.

    Not bad!

So what several of you are telling me is that Hill, despite never playing a down at safety, will be the next Ronnie Lott? I think he would be a better fit at TE. A dynamic runner and once he gets the ball he is very good at making people miss

Also seem to remember a poster that claimed the Patriots would make Langi a top draft pick. Missed that one as well.

My brother a Ute Fan made a great observation. I congratulated him on the Utes getting 8 players picked in the draft. BYU as you know only got 1 player. And I told him let the "In your face" begin, because I knew all the Ute Fans would shove it in the BYU Fans faces that they, got 8 to BYU's players 1 picked in the draft. And this is what he said: If the Utes got 8 players picked in the draft and BYU only got 1, why wasn't their record last year better??? See, BYU and Utah ended up with the same record last year 9 wins and 4 loses. So I ask the same thing to all Ute Fans, without any nasty remarks, if you got so many picks in the draft this year... I mean look at it, you tied with Florida and LSU at 8. Better than Ohio State at 7. Better than Florida State at 4. Better than Oklahoma at 4, Notre Dame at 2, Texas at 1, Only Michigan at 11 and Alabama at 10 were better. I mean, with all those NFL guys you had, why didn't you have a better record than 9 wins and 4 loses?

Taysom should get a serious look in a variety of positions, including QB. Do the scouts also know he has a tremendous leg for kicking and punting also?

8! Draftees is truly amazing and will pay off in a big way in recruiting for Utah. I am just puzzled why they didn't win more games than they did...
With that many NFL caliber talent, they should have won the PAC12. 4 offensive lineman and a running back. BIG kudos to the O-Line coach--that's amazing!

I hope all these guys can get on in the NFL, but Hunter & Taysom have the best shot of the unfrafted. With Hill its finding a different position. He's athletic enough to have a shot at several positions. Dimick has the experience and the tools to stick somewhere.

  • Floyd Johnson Broken Arrow, OK
    April 29, 2017 11:45 p.m.

Taysom has safety speed. I think he ends up on defense and hangs around the league for four years. He comes out of the NFL with enough money to start a comfortable retirement fund. Stories to entertain future grand kids. And friends, contacts and memories to last a lifetime. Not too bad at 30.

I thought Hunter Dimick would go in the 6th round. He has a future in the league. Best luck to all of these guys.

Taysom doesnt look like a safety to me. But I could see him as a backer. Hes aggressive, big, physical, athletic. I think hes a linebacker.
