Water Rocket, if you eliminate the offside rule you have nothing more than teams
blasting the ball to their offensive end every time and everyone rushing the
box. No passing or strategy at all. Soccer doesn't need more scoring...it
is fine the way it is. You either like the game the way it is played or you
don't, but removing offside isn't an option. Even hockey has an
offside rule to prevent cherry picking play all game. Now, I think
changing to a hockey-style offside rule would be easier to enforce than the
current offside rule and would make the game entertaining, but to eliminate
offside will eliminate all midfield play.
water rocket,I think there are plenty (try millions if not hundreds
of millions) of soccer fans around the world who are plenty happy with the rules
of soccer the way they are. I personally also don't really like the
offsides rule either, but it is one of the things that makes soccer what it is.
They don't need to change the rules to make it more like basketball. They
don't even need to change them to try to appeal to more Americans. It is
the most popular sport worldwide and was designed to be a defense oriented game,
and the fans love it.
@ water rocketTerrible ideas!! Soccer is fine the way it is. No
need to "Americanize" the way the worlds #1 sport is played
@water rocket"Of course the rule makers will not listen to the
fans. That would show they actually care what fans think."Uh,
soccer is the most popular sport in the world by a huge margin - I'm pretty
sure they're listening to fans.
This is just another match Salt Lake Real will lose. Two things need to happen
in soccer: 1) Salt Lake Real needs a new coach, one who can motivate his team.
2) Soccer, as a sport, needs to find a way to allow more scoring. I would
suggest that they eliminate the off sides rule. The off sides rule is only in
place to prevent scoring, but in every other sport, getting ahead of the defense
is not only allowed, but encouraged. For example, basketball has the fast
break, and it is an exciting play to watch. Another rule change would be to
require teams to get across the midfield line in so many seconds, and once
across, they can't go back without losing the ball. Passing the ball all
over the field to prevent the other team from getting it is such a boring aspect
of the game. The last thing soccer needs to change is the tie matches. Go into
over time, have shoot outs, or what ever you need to do to score, but a zero -
zero or 1 - 1 tie is so disappointing for the fans. No fan wants to watch a
team NOT score! I would love to see games won with high scores. Of course the
rule makers will not listen to the fans. That would show they actually care
what fans think.
Who are they?
I hope the tickets are affordable and will be given to RSL season ticket holders
first. I would love to go see this match, whoever they play!
