Obviously the guys that have commented here have no clue that those carpets were installed over really nice hardwood basketball courts. They were installed as a way to reduce the sound not as a cheap flooring substitute. And yes the torn ACLs were a bad byproduct, but even worse was the carpet burn if you ever fell. I sported a nasty, deep carpet burn for over a year. But hey, I was a teenager and like that was going to keep me from sneaking into the church to play some ball. Interesting subject to bring up, it has zero revelance to March Madness or professional basketball.

"American Mormons have a longstanding and well-documented relationship with basketball."

    He forgot to add embarrassing.

And the cheap remark is oh so incredibly accurate.

I don't love the carpeted gyms and tried hard to avoid those church buildings as a teen but as a parent they're fantastic. Wood floors and folding chairs just mean more noise.

I wonder how many ACLs have been blown out due to the carpeted basketball courts. I've seen it happen a couple of times myself.
