Mark Pope would be a great hire to replace Dave Rose. Love Rose, he has done a great job. It is a tough job that can wear you down and I think it is time to let him ride off into the sunset and get some new blood and excitement in there. All of the transfers really hurt this team. Jordan Chatman would have been a big help or Isaac Nielsen on the block.

Haws might be the worst defender I have ever seen and I have watched a lot of bad defenders playing for BYU. Are they coaching him to play 20 feet off of his guy so that his guy can take wide open threes or is Haws so slow, unathletic or lazy that he cannot stay on his guy? Why are they constantly rotating and leaving backside three point shooters wide open? Put Mika and Kaufusi down low and tell the perimeter guys to stay ON their guy and not let them have an open shot. If the ball goes into the post you have two large, physically imposing players who can simply handle it on their own without a slow guard's help defense. Why in the world would a coach keep their best athlete, Kaufusi, on the bench? 6'10", 270 lbs who can jump, defend and body up on anybody? A guy who is not afraid of anyone? Yeah, keep him on the bench Rose because the last thing this team needs is some toughness. What a joke. Kaufusi actually was the difference last year and the win at Gonzaga this year. Stop with the three guard offense and get Childs, Mika and Kaufusi on the floor at the same time and let Haws come off the bench and hit an occasional three because that is all he does anyway.

This won't change next year or the year after unless there's a change at the top of the food chain. Coach Rose has to go, sorry, like the man personally, but he just can't coach players up. He has zero control over his players and sits on the bench holding his hands on his face. We need a coach that fires up the players. Maybe someone with a bit of a temper, (Madog Mark Madsen?) If you can't coach defense, you won't win games. If you can't stop players from throwing up 30 footers 5 seconds into the shot clock, you won't win games. Changes must be made, plain and simple.

Another lackluster performance for a team coached by no 'D' Dave Rose.

There appears to be too much entitlement on this team; I don't think the best players are always playing. Two things:

    (1) There's no excuse for ANY team to walk into the Marriott Center and score 100 points against us.

    (2) There's no reason why a program of BYU's caliber should EVER lose more than 3 games in the WCC regular season.

I actually don't know if replacing Rose is the solution. But, if I'm Rose I'm doing two things today: (1) Calling Dave Rice and begging him to come back; (2) Hiring Jackson Emery and asking him to please teach this backcourt how to play defense.

I wanted to believe that Haws, Emery, and Mika could take us to the next level. But, it appears that only Mika is physically built to play D1 basketball. The other two are very skilled. But, either too small and/or too slow.

I agree with those who say Rose's teams don't play defense and that they also don't have an offense. Until that changes, we will keep having 20+ wins every year and early exits in the NCAA and nit. It isn't about talent. It's about execution. And right now, our players don't know how to execute a play on offense or defense.

I think Coach Rose's Achilles heel is defense. In this game the opponent basically had free rein to go to the basket for easy shots. It wasn't just that we were slow to rotate but even when we had time we didn't square up or contest shots, other than a lazy hand in the air occasionally. Offensively I think we are a decent team but without a quality defense, we are never going to win these games no matter how talented we are. I hope they focus on this over the offseason and come back with a better focus on the fundamentals. If not, we've hit our ceiling under Coach Rose, and unfortunately it's not that high.

What I'd like to see is no hype, no next year, and team goals kept private. Come out and prove your worth on the court. No shouting down fans of other teams. Preserve your fire for the court. Focus on transition, points and momentum from a great defense. Can BYU do that? It's been a long time.

UTA were conference champions in their league.
Boise State was third place in theirs.

"At least I have heard of Boise State."

That's because you've watched them beat Utah in football and basketball for the last two decades.

Only ones who call for a new coach are those who don't like BYU anyway and those who have too much of their identity tied up in BYU athletic success. Yeah, I bought into the hype preceding this season without doing much actual analysis. Next year will tell if any hype was warranted. Meanwhile, after another 20+ win season fair-weather fans are asking Coach Rose "What have you done for us lately?" Coach has earned the right to stay as long as he wants.

It's just time for a new head coach. It's painful to watch and I'm sure it's not fun playing either. We're getting to the point of complete futility and Rose knows it. We got a new FB coaching staff, it's high time for a new B-ball staff as well.

    Let's move on...

This is a case of poorly repaired team. Defense didn't exist and the offense relies on either a 3 point shot from the perimeter, pretty much the player creating his own shot or throwing into the big's for them to create their own shots, With no defense and poor offensive scheme. It’s no wonder there are losing.

Need to bring back Steve Cleveland as the coach. Currently, BYU is stuck in neutral with the gas pedal stuck. No hope for improvement under the current scenario.

A complete lack of discipline this season. No team cohesiveness. They beat Gonzaga and stink up the floor with lesser teams and some of these losses were downright embarrassing. This is all on the coach.

    Easy - no defense.

Obvious that with the 4 experienced wings and guards that transferred in the off season and the hiring of Lewis as assistant coach that Rose has given the program to the LP3. Those guys and Lewis are all about scoring records and personal achievement.

Going to be a rough road until the Emery and Haws folks are through using the program for personal gain.

The BYU offense was sloppy in the 2nd half. UTA couldn't miss in the 2nd quarter either.
