"When does Utah's statute of limitations on "relevancy" run out
on Utah's Final Four appearances? All but one occurred over half a
century ago, and even the most recent occurred 20 years ago."kilblarney:That's mighty bold talk from a fanbase whose go-to
response regarding football relevance begins and ends in 1984.
Duckhunter:"That commuter school has never had a similar win,
road or home."On the contrary, we did one better than that.
We'd beaten TWO teams who actually had been #1 seeds. During the 1998
Tournament, Utah beat the defending national champions -- #1 seed Arizona -- and
the regular season #1 -- #1 seed North Carolina. All the cougars did
was beat a team who "might" be a #1 seed come tourney time...and again,
it was just ONE team. Not two like Utah. That WACish and midmajorey school
down south has never had a similar win to Utah's back-to-back victories
over #1 seeded teams.Looks like you should have done your research
before saying that.
Striker:"This goes to show you can go on the road, play very
physical, get some bruises and scratches, and pull out an amazing win without
having to cancel the next game."Actually, it doesn't go to
show that at all. For starters, Gonzaga is a "conference member", so
there's no option to "not play". And second, from the
tone of your post, can those of us who didn't watch that game conclude that
the tdS is still throwing sucker punches at opposing players, while Coach Rose
does nothing about it? Because THAT was what the reason was that motivated Utah
from canceling the return trip to Provo.
Great win for the Cougars and remarkable support from the best fans.Well done!I see that the crimson spin machine is working overtime
in a futile attempt to try minimize, which is par for the course anytime BYU
accomplishes any significant achievement.
JohninSLC"Yeah, we'll just have to settle for several Final
Four appearances."When does Utah's statute of limitations
on "relevancy" run out on Utah's Final Four appearances? All but one occurred over half a century ago, and even the most recent
occurred 20 years ago.BYU's win over #1 Gonzaga occurred two
days ago - MUCH more relevant - even for a crimson goggles wearing Utah fan.
cjd1Typical Ute spin.Rankings are only legitimate when
Utah fans agree with them.On the day BYU beat #1 Gonzaga, the
highest ranked team in the PAC 12, Arizona (1st in PAC 12), was ranked #4 in
both polls. Gonzaga beat #4 Arizona 69-62.Gonzaga also
beat #13 Florida (2nd in the SEC) and Iowa St (2nd in the Big 12).
cjd1Before the loss to BYU, Gonzaga had been ranked #1 by 59 of the
66 voters in AP and by 29 of the 32 voters in the Coaches poll. Are
you seriously trying to claim that all of the teams in the Top 25 deserved their
ranking except for #1 Gonzaga?
JohninSLC What's odd or obsessive about my screen name?I'm a Utah grad - class of 1991Some of us are not so
blinded by obsession that we're incapable of recognizing the
accomplishments of our rival.Gonzaga was good enough to beat
Arizona. If the Zag's #1 ranking was illegitimate, what does
that say about one of the three best teams in the PAC 12?Spin it
however helps you sleep at night, but the Utes have never had a single game win
that compares with beating a 29-0, near unanimous #1 ranked team on their home
"That commuter school has never had a similar win, road or home"ducky: Yeah, we'll just have to settle for several
Final Four appearances. Unfamiliar term? Ask a Ute fan.________________(faux)UofU:Odd speaking of obsession with that screen name.
cjd1Sports experts have said that Utah fans are the second most
rival obsessed fans in the country with such a vitriolic hatred of all things
BYU that it borders on irrational...your post proves that.Gonzaga was ranked #1 because the majority of sports experts and coaches
thought that the Zags deserved to be ranked #1.
Sports experts have stated Gonzaga did not deserve a #1 rating because of their
SOS. This proves it.
This goes to show you can go on the road, play very physical, get some bruises
and scratches, and pull out an amazing win without having to cancel the next
game. It's official, Gonzaga is BYU's new basketball rival. Sitake was there. It's an exciting time. Hope they give Rose an
extension until he retires. We'll be celebrating this win for ages. What
an unbelievable weekend!
@RiddlesThat commuter school has never had a similar win, road or
Thanks for the video! I join in the JOY of Cougar World. I thought
it was cool that the football coaches and players were there. After all,
isn't a win like this for all of BYU Sports Nation everywhere! Let us
rejoice. The only thing that would have made it sweeter was to have Jarom Jordan
shave his head again like last year on SN!Go BYU Cougars!
KimmyP"Is this akin to storming the field after a regular season
game?"This is akin to the greatest college fans in the world
showing their appreciation to a team that just overcame a 16-point deficit on
the road to beat the 29-0, #1-ranked team in the country. When was
the last time that commuter school on the hill had a road win even remotely
similar to celebrate?
Is this akin to storming the field after a regular season game?
It's terrific to see the fans as well as the student boosters ROC, meeting
Cougar football and basketball teams down at PIA Provo International Airport.
This is what makes a great college town a great college town. You don't
knock off a #1 team very often, so why not enjoy it? Who can forget the
Footballers taking down #1 and reigning National Champion, Miami. I
understand that there wasn't a drop of milk left in the stores as BYU fans
toasted their B-Ball warriors.
BYU fans are the greatest!Well done ROC!
