This was an outstanding event and a good group of men. I actually learned a lot by seeing these old rituals and will be learning more about it. I am amazed at what the Masons and Shriners do for the kids here in Utah.

    1. The Masonic rites and LDS ordinances are nearly identical.
    2. MOST U.S. founding Fathers were Free and Accepted Masons.
    3. likewise -- MOST LDS founders/leaders were also F&AM.
    4. Joseph Smith himself in Nauvoo once said - If they truly are of the same original source, why would they not then not be so similar?
    5. There is no reason to freak out. This is no "secret". It's been publically known for over 173 years now...
    6. I happen to think it's pretty cool.

jsf: Solomon's temple wasn't anything like how LDS view temples.
As for the Masons, their own history shows it's origins. They had to do with stone masons being able to protect their work, a sort of union. Masons do not claim any sort origin with Solomon.

I was suprised to learn, only a few years ago, just how closely LDS Temple covenants mirrored the Masonic Rites.

The mason's rituals originated in England in the 1700s. Interesting.

Joseph Smith was a Mason and many of the Mormon Temple rituals were purloined from the Masons.

I never realized, until a few years ago, how closely LDS Temple rituals and covenants mirror old Masonic rites.
