We are a large county. Having national educational standards is a good thing. However, with technological changes, a plethora of ways to meet educational objectives, a highly dysfunctional and slow moving government, we may never meet the future demands required to teach the next coming generation.

When Jeb Bush says, that the federal government "should should make sure states can’t ignore students who need extra help", he either does not understand the magnitude of what he says or is deliberately obfuscating for the ignorant masses who want to re-create our government into some type of Confederacy where states hold the power. It is strange that countries the US competes with in education all have highly centralized education systems.
