Wow, who would have or could have guessed? It took a large research project for them to figure this out? Any mook on the street could have told you this at any point over the past five years. This happens every recession, every period of expansion and every depression. It is one of the main reasons I do not vote any more. It does not matter which party is in power. Dems will tax the middle class to line the pockets of the rich liberals. The Repubs will tax the middle class to line their own supporters. Neither side is out to help the middle class because we don't give them money.

Our nation is doomed and those in power don't care.

History shows that socialism does NOT make the rich richer ... everybody understands that except for FOXNEWS contributors. The whole reason the elite 1% hates socialistic programs is because it does just the opposite - it levels the playing field for all - freeloaders have more of a chance of thriving. FDRfan's cynical quip about the 10% is the only comment here that makes any sense.

The rich ARE getting richer and they ARE spending less - stashing off-shore tax savings in off-shore accounts - which contributes to the U.S. poor getting poorer. Further proof that trickle-down economics and thirty years of tax reductions for the elite are not working.

Who are the top 10%? They are the owners of the hospitals, tobacco companies, energy companies, alcoholic beverage companies, gambling industries. Don't dare raise their taxes because it would be punishing success.

Jared is right in my opinion. Socialism destroys an economy. We need to get rid of red tape, make adjustments in our tax system. The idea the rich get richer and the poor poorer doesn't jibe with me. When the economy goes bad all boats sink. There may be a few exceptions, but we see a lot fewer millionaires in a poor economy. Free enterprise made this nation so lets go back to it.

Economic growth? Not seeing it, and I don't believe any numbers from the government. But, skepticism aside, of course the rich are getting richer. That's what Socialism does. Insulates and feeds the wealthy, kills the middle class, and makes everyone else into lower class "comrades". The wealthy spending less doesn't surprise me either, with the enormous uncertainty that worldwide chaos (ISIS, Ebola, Russia, Ferguson, etc.) brings, not to mention the uncertainty bred by government lawlessness, i.e. discarding the Constitution, arbitrary regulations, scoffing at the rule of law.
