HG is indeed about government run amok, but the young people in the film are being sacrificed for entertainment value--sent off to fight a useless manufactured battle that only serves the government and sponsors of the games, distracting the population from the excesses of corporate government that oppresses much of the population, keeping them poor and with no opportunities or hope. The government and its business sponsors tout the tributes as heroes, when what they really are is victims. But no one dares declare the young people sent into meaningless battles to be victims. Corporate media does the manipulative "patriotic" thing--praise their loyalty and virtue. Oppose this interpretation and you're a traitor. The population can't voice the truth. Kids are sacrificed for big business and its owners. Sounds like the Bushes' two Gulf Wars and Afghanistan. Opposing those wars meant you didn’t support the troops. But my heart breaks to see kids sacrificed on the altar of an oligarchy. These aren't WW2, not wars for freedom or security, but for Washington bedfellows, GE, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Halliburton, also CCN and FOX, etc. Eisenhower saw this coming in 1961: the evils of the corporatization of war.

it is interesting to me to see the parallels with The Hunger Games and todays "Obama-nation". The same BIG federal govt controlling and deciding EVERYTHING in a persons life and the same punishment for living outside the lines. Now Hunger Games is extreme obviously but my wife and I talk after each new episode about how scary the parallels are with the direction of todays AmeriKa. I can see the Hunger Games right here in perhaps 50 years unless we take our country back from the radical left.
