They are innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around.

As I recall, both are being charged with one or more counts of conspiracy. Co-conspirators are often tried together, so it's not unusal for them to appear together for pre-trial matters.

Either could move to have their case severed (be tried separately), I'd think Shurtleff would be more likely to do so. Swallow may prefer to be tried with Shurtleff at least as to some of the counts as he can make the argument that he was merely following Shurtleff's direction and didn't have any pecuniary motives.

Shurtleff has already said he wished Mr. Swallow hadn't done some of the things he did. They will stumble on top of each other. Shurtleff was a boss over the county DA and has to feel some shame to be charged by the official position in the County he supervised. As an attorney and Chief law enforcer in the state, they both believed they could enforce laws unimpeded without consequence as others supposedly did the things they did without a problem. So many elected officials in all parties, jurisdictions, states, and nationally over the years. Two years being investigated gave these two opportunities to destroy, lose, cover their rabbit tracks since it is not DNA related. Electronic devices such as those in the IRS should have information or backups on the State's computer systems, not just the ones in their homes since they were performing state duties.

GRAMA information is guarded and not destroyed,by public officials. They have ethical responsibility as attorneys in the state of Utah.

Mr.Swallow resigned after the House investigation. Both should have resigned prior to quitting the state action against Bank of America and Shurtleff hired by their Law Firm.

    Hey Atlas Smashed -

" Could you imagine the disappointment in telling your child that there wouldn't be a Christmas because the loan shark charged 600 percent interest?"

Come on Atlas, Shurtleff was just walking the Right Wing talk.

And Right Wing Talk says that there should be NO regulations that impede a capitalistic enterprise from earning/extorting just as much money as it can.

If it's what the market will bear, than GO FOR IT.

. . . I'm thinking that maybe the state should offer are certain amount of immunity to Swallow for ratting out his mentor, Shurtleff . . . or vice versa . . . Whatever works.

But we NEED to see a conviction here.

My comment referred, specifically, to the photo of Shurtleff seen above.

What an embarrassment to their families and the republican party. I've been a state delegate many times over the years. I lost all respect for Shurtleff while AG when he demanded the state board of education implement plans for vouchers even before the election to determine if we would go to a voucher system was decided. He was trying to sway the election through this arrogant attitude that he knew what was best. Swallow is cut out of the same mold. I saw right through him at the state convention and put my support behind Reyes. Too bad other delegates didn't have the same insight. They were too busy listening to "Queen Gayle" and her eagle forum. And people think our caucus system to so great?

That, in a nutshell is Exactly correct. It's all fun and games until the tide turns.
I can't stand the indignation with which Shurtleff assailed those serving the warrant, and his very proper being taken to jail..how he continues to say how stressful this is on HIS family.
And to look right at the camera, or the Doug Wright microphone and deny all charges....

Conviction or exoneration first. Then you can comment with some authority on what it means.

Not something you want to be facing at this stage in your life but all you have to do is be honest and you won't have to worry.

I would keep the two of them separate and as far away from each other as possible.

    @ riverofson

Did you know that Shurtleff and his lil cohort protected corrupt banks and companies in taking away peoples' homes? Did you know that they protected loan sharks from just destroying peoples' lives? Could you imagine telling your wife that you no longer could live in a home because of the evil practices of the bank? Could you imagine the disappointment in telling your child that there wouldn't be a Christmas because the loan shark charged 600 percent interest?

The headaches these two men have is nothing compared to the countless headaches they gave to our fellow Americans. Shurtleff and Igor must be punished. To me, the question isn't whether or not they're guilty. But how long they should go to prison for.

One can almost certainly feel the tremendous headache this situation is causing for Shurtliff and Swallow.
