    CRUCIAL GUN SAFETY TIP: Removing the magazine or clip out of a firearm does NOT guarantee the gun is unloaded. With your finger off the trigger and the gun pointed in a safe direction (preferably at an impenetrable wall), open the bolt or pull back the slide to visually check for a round in the chamber. Then feel inside the chamber to confirm there is no bullet in the firing position. Make sure the magazine is out of the gun before you close the bolt or release the slide or else another bullet will move into the firing position. If any of this doesn't make sense, consult a certified firearms instructor who will show you what this all means.

    @CA. reader

    It was negligence not an accident. It was completely avoidable by using common sense.

    "Solve issues of gun violence"? Negligence or accident it appears to have purely unintentional.

    The Headline "Man accidentally shoots girlfriend while cleaning gun" should read...

    "Man negligently shoots girlfriend while cleaning gun".

    We are not going to solve the issues of gun violence if we keep equating negligently discharging a weapon with dropping a bowling ball on top of our foot - THAT is an accident.

    Sometimes the stock photos get old. How about one that shows a Glock, instead of a revolver?
