I'm sure you were happy to see BYU take another step to the Dance.

    We marked it down.

    Chris....really! Why do you care?
You don't know if BYU will win or lose, and if they do, they have an earned reward waiting for them. Again, whey do you care?

For Cougar fans in the WCC tournament cheer for your Cougars and for Gonzaga because if both teams make it to the championship game than BYU will be in regardless if they win or lose that game.

If any team but BYU or Gonzaga wins the WCC tournament, BYU is out of the NCAA's. If BYU loses to the Padres, they'll have to win the WCC to get to the dance.

We Cougar fans get caught up in the rhetoric and forget that just a couple of weeks ago BYU lost to Pacific. I'd be surprised if we beat San Diego....

Mark321 - good analysis, I hadn't thought about the possibility of Gonzaga bowing out of the conference tourney early. Even if the Zags lose tomorrow and lose in the WCC tourney, they are likely a shoe-in for the NCAA. Not so much for BYU - they probably can't afford to lose tomorrow and will need to at least make it to the WCC tourney championship game.

Cougars are playing great right now, here's hoping they keep it up. Three years ago they headed to San Diego to play a different team with a no. 1 or 2 seed on the line; now they are fighting to be one of two teams from their conference just to get into the tournament. How things have changed. Can't wait to see the 2013 and 2014 recruiting classes all suiting up in a few years - should be good times.

    @ Chris B

"If byu won out until the conference title game they would go dancing."

Ok who are you and what did you do with Chris B? One of the rare occasions that I agree with you. Only I believe BYU will get to the championship game. Their opponents left will be San Diego, Portland (or San Diego), and most likely San Francisco. BYU is more talented than all these teams and even though upsets can happen, I believe BYU with their momentum will beat these teams. The only caveat is BYU to get the at-large tournament bid if they are to lose the WCC championship game would have to face Gonzaga. If Gonzaga gets upset by a team like St. Mary's and BYU faces St. Mary's in the championship game than BYU would have to win that game to get in. If St. Mary's wins than they'll get the automatic bid and it will be between BYU and Gonzaga to receive the at-large bid and unfortunately I believe the committee would give the nod to Gonzaga. The WCC won't have more than 2 teams in.

Chris B, BYU is currently in the tournament in 72 out of 90 (80%) bracketology expert's brackets based on the bracket matrix website as an at large bid. You cannot say with such certainty that they have to win out until the conference championship game to make the tournament. I don't know if they will make the tournament or not, but they have a chance as an at large even if they lose in the conference semi final round. I can't be certain about if they will get in or not. But your confidence that they absolutely won't get in is quite entertaining, especially since most experts are projecting BYU to be in. I am always curious how it feels to have such hatred for a team that you obsess over the team more than you focus on your own team.

Thank you Chris B. Have you ever thought of applying for a job as an analyst for ESPN? Your insights and thoughts are always spot-on.

    Last 7 years

BYU 6 tournament appearances, 4 tournament wins.

Utah 1 tournament appearances, 0 tournament wins.

    Simple as that

Reaching the finals is not a given in this tournament. San Francisco is playing good basketball right now.

Forget the at-large! BYU beat Gonzaga once, St. Mary's twice. Granted they have messed up on the road in conferance a few times, but have played some tough teams at their place or at a nuetral (not really) site. Look at Gonzaga's schedule and you understand why they have won so many games. They played on exactly one other teams home floor in non-conferance. Their non-conferance schedule ranks right up there with Utah. Their SOS is 96 while BYU's is 28.

BYU should not focus on at large. Gonzaga will not be on their home floor BYU. Go win the tournament!
