Great coaching effort to figure out the best line up. I wish Carlino would pass the ball more. But I guess he was in the zone.

@Bleed Crimson "Thank goodness for the Marriott Center. The cougs probably would have lost on the road."

That's a pretty brazen statement coming from a fan of a team that has been perpetual road kill for the last decade. Thank goodness for the Huntsman Center. Otherwise the only T shirts U could buy this season is "We beat USC" as your road mantra.

Coach Rose deserves a lot of praise. He has great instincts regarding the rotation that will spur players to excel. We are very fortunate to have such a classy coach! Great job Dave!

"Another great win for the cougs over another power house in the wcc."

Really??? Wow, what weird expectations. Any win is a good win no matter who it's against. But a great win?? You give Portland more credit than I do.

    And Baby R,
    Utah still cannot:
Win more than one road game a season
    Make it to any tourney
    Pack their own gym
    make it to 20 wins
    win any close game
    out recruit BYU
I'm impressed with this team, maybe, just maybe there is a hope for a win the pac. Oh never mind iti is on the road

The cougs probably would of lost on the road but our awsome road record proves we always win our teams so we our good.

    Go Utes!

    Wow. So BYU Cougars can:
    1. Defend!!!
    2. Rebound
    3. Prepare for the team they are playing at the time
    4. Not foul every time down the court.
    5. Still not shoot free throws!!! (as a team)
    6. Mika shoot above 50% free throws!
I'm impressed with this win--maybe, just maybe there is hope for a win in the WCC playoffs.

    Bleed Crimson,
You must be mistaken about losing on the road. I believe that you were soeaking of the utes.
The Cougars do fine on the road Remind me again about the utes road record?

"The Cougs probably would have lost on the road."

LOL! There's no team in the state that's more pathetic on the road than the Utes.

    Road/neutral wins:

    BYU: #24 Texas, #41 Stanford, #63 Saint Mary's, #78 San Francisco, #133 Utah St, #220 Santa Clara
    Utah: #155 Washington St

    Worst road/neutral loss:

    BYU: #177 Loyola Marymount
    Utah: #182 Washington State

It's Palubinskas. Eddie played at Ricks years ago before finishing at LSU. BYU coaches need to call him and let him teach "technique" on free throw shooting to some of our guys.
Good to see Matty with that throw down! Like he said, it's hard to guard FIVE GUYS!

I told you Gonzaga was an average team, especially by there standards. They drove that point home again last night. One win in the tournament, at best, then out.

Nice win for BYU last night, I wouldn't be surprised if they win the WCC tourney. Good for BYU!

Another great win for the cougs over another power house in the wcc. Let's call the win what it really was. Two less than average teams from the 9th best conference. Boy byu fans expectations sure have fallen to an all time low if you think beating Portland was a good win. Especially when both programs are irrelevant in the landscape of college basketball.

It really shows the direction Utah and byu basketball are headed.byu fans claiming Portland a great when and Utah fans in a rebuilding year are disappointed in close loses to Arizona and on the road.

Carlino had a Jimmer-like performance. Good win Cougs! Only one loss at home all season. If they could beat San Diego on Saturday and win enough in the Conference tournament to get to the championship game against Gonzaga than I think their at-large chances will be enough to get in pending on how the rest of the field goes.

That's it the team chemistry is peaking. They are having fun! Their confidence is soaring. And it is absolutely fun to watch. Now call Eddie Palubenskis.

Awesome game by the Cougars, especially Carlino and Winder! Things are gelling at just the right time for this team. Hope they continue. With Gonzaga suffering their second consecutive loss last night against San Diego, these cougs may well end up being conference champs! Who knows? It's so fun to watch them when they play well!

Go Cougars! Good luck to the Utes today too! And so sorry to see the Aggies lost another tough one again!

BYU has one of the best guard line in the country and without a doubt two or three of the best guards inthe state. They are coming together at the right time of the season. First team in the state to get to 20 wins. If they continue playing as they are right now they may catch a few teams by surprise in the NCAA tourney.
Coach Rose is a genious the way he is rotating his players in ans out of the game. Kuso also to Worthington for logging some solid minutes.

I enjoyed watching the Matty Basketball show and am thrilled that the cougs are peaking right now. I think they definitely having a shot of running the tables, winning the conference tournament, and getting a decent (i.e. 7-8) seed in the big dance. Go Cougs!

This was a really enjoyable game to watch. For the most part, the officials allowed the two teams to play. And what can you say about Carlino? Just a great game to watch.

Or, at least it was fun until about the last 5 minutes or so. That seems to be when the officials decided they needed to even up the fouls. When I saw at half time that BYU had been whistled for just 3 fouls compared to Portland's 10, I said to my wife, "watch, they'll call a bunch of ticky-tack stuff and even that up in the 2nd." Well, much to my surprise, they didn't. Until the last bit of the game, that is. It's pretty amazing when a guy can get called for a foul for nothing more than setting up in position for a rebound. I give the officials an a for the first 12-15 minutes. They get a D for the last 5-8.

Winder is playing well again with the start. But his 19 points have been pretty quiet. It's the Matty Ice show! 7-10 from three, 25 points, and what was that? Carlino throwing one down? Dude is unconscious tonight!
