"...put Salt Lake opening ceremonies to shame?" Time and technology. Traditionally, Winter Olympic opening ceremonies are not as impressive as those for Summer Olympics. This was Putin's one chance to make a splash, and he made the most of it. It was glorious. Let it go at that and quit comparing, always putting the USA down. Oh, and NBC? Enough of Bob Costas' making Putin into an international statesman and champion of peace.

I'm just surprised that I didn't learn anything about Sochi. Imagine if the Salt Lake Olympics did the whole show on the history of North America; including the Mayflower, the Civil War, Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, men walking on the moon, and Broadway. It would have left Americans scratching their heads.

Many of the visuals were stunning - and innovative. The NBC analysts were annoying. They needed to shut up and let us see and hear what was happening at the stadium.

I was very impressed with the technology of the event. It got me wondering if Obama could have hired some of those Russian techs to help him out with his website...I mean rather than outsourcing it to Canada.

Not to rain on everyones parade here including the olympics but come on Amy Donaldson this praise article is about as worthy as NBC's grand experiment comments on communism. Any honest person who watched this opening ceremony cannot help but wonder if the Soviet Union was just re-established or did you all miss the Hammer and Sickel symbols of the old Soviet regime or larger than life sculptures that are obviously in the spirit of Lenin and Stalin. Coupled with the horror stories coming out from CNN and ABC reporters as well as olympic guests about the conditions and accomodations that are supposed to represent the pinnacle of Russian culture and hospitality I can only hope and pray the the best thing that comes out of these olympics is that people will realize again what a failure communism and socialism are and reject this insanity once and for all. Hopefully the Russian journalists and reporters will get that message out better than our media. Oh wait they keep vanishing under the new Stalin... Wait I mean Putin.

Having done business in the USSR and 7 of the Republics including Russia, I must say:
Russian politics are demonic: Russian culture divine.

Having graduated from high school in 1963, I always thought my chemistry teacher was joking when he said he invented the periodic table. He was telling the truth after all!
