I didn't realize he was and never saw him listed on FamousMormons website but did find a blog titled Mormon Left where the blogger is reviewing famous Mormon ball players after the death of the greatest one, Harmon Killebrew. He lists Dennis Eckersley as the greatest pitcher amongst Mormon ballplayers and just ahead of Roy Halladay.

Considering some of the people in the Hall of Fame, it might be just as well to not make it. But seriously, anyone who was a key player in 4 World Series championships like Jack Morris should have been a shoe in. And even if his last two years were not anything to brag about (like Dennis suggests) they should not have been counted against Dale Murphy. The voters are corrupt!!

Kent and Murphy are not Hall of Fame players. Excellent ball players, good men and great careers. But they don't have the numbers. Had Murphy retired two years earlier it may have happened but his strike outs at the end of his career doomed him. Morris on the other hand has the numbers. Unfortunately many "popular" players are coming to the table now that have the same or better credentials. Give it time.

Its a shame that neither Murphy or Morris are in the Hall!

Dennis Eckersley has an LDS connection? Is he/was he a member? Never heard that.
