Is this really the team that beat Stanford, Texas & Utah State? Is this the team that also took Oregon to overtime? All of those games were away from the Marriot Center!

It has been a few years but I must admit that Utah has the better team in basketball this year.

Weak Players with absolutely no toughness!

I see three problems right now with the BYU team that are all entirely fixable. First, defense. I have never seen tough defense played by a Dave Rose team. Hopefully, this will be the year they realize the importance of it. Second, bad free throw shooting and three point shooting. Both of these can be corrected by spending extra time shooting outside regular practice. It has been reported several times that Jordan Loveridge spends hours outside regular practice with his Dad shooting shots. Maybe some of BYU's players can learn from him. Third, selfish play. BYU's players look to shoot first rather than pass and seem to be taking bad shots as a result. They need to get better ball movement and have better shot selection. I think BYU can get better, if they correct these three things.

    @ runnerguy50:

A tough guy that rebounds and sets picks? That would be Charles Abuo...and he could shoot 3's. We got spoiled in 2010 and 2011. That team was flat out awsome.

Selfish play by 5 individuals has been a problem with this team all year, and has factored in all their losses. Yet selfish play has not improved. In fact it seems to be getting worse. It makes me wonder if Rose even sees that as a problem on this team. The good news is we have seen this team play at a very high level. So maybe there is a chance they get things turned around by conference tournament time. But right now they couldn't beat Sister Suzie's Finishing School.

That didn't quite sound right. As much as it pains me to admit it, Utah is clearly a better team than BYU. What I meant is that time will tell that, I believe, Utah is not one of the better teams on BYU's schedule.

Bad headline. Nothing startling about BYU losing to Pepperdine. BYU is not very good this year. Carlino is a train wreck as a point guard and will shoot BYU out of more games until he is benched. Where's the defensive effort by this team?

    Mnsave: Utah a lesser team?

You must not have watched the Utah / BYU game and compared the talent and coaching. Not even close this year.

No way, the mighty cougs, 0-2 in the stellar WCC, let me guess, it's the toughest conference in the nation? ??

I am just as frustrated as anyone about watching my beloved Cougars implode the way they are. But just as frustrating is the level of biting criticism and the quickness some fans are throwing in the towel and giving up on them. These kind of fans drives me crazy and frankly I wish they would just leave and don't bother coming back. These kids need help and our support now. Yes it's hard to figure out how they could play so well against the ranked teams and then flopped against lesser competition. I don't know the answer but biting criticism and threats of not supporting them anymore does not help. The kids have feelings too, and piling on them and withholding our support is the last thing they need to hear. Let's not be just fair weather fans guys! Yes we need them to win, and I'm sure they'll soon figure out what's wrong and turn things around.

    Go Cougars!

Josh Sharp started a bunch of games last year. Why not this year? Anson Winder came in and started a couple of games when Haws was hurt early in the season. He played great...and scored the ball. Go ahead and let 'em play, because they will at least make it a team game. Maybe Mika should try drawing some defense in the post and then kick it out to the open guy instead of forcing up dumb shots. Until BYU coaches insist on a team first concept, this year's team is toast!

It is very difficult to understand. How do you play some pretty good teams so well, even leading by double digits, and lay giant eggs against lesser teams, including Utah. I felt the issues were defense, 3-pt shooting and free throws. Now it has gone further to little heart, selfishness and poor execution. I still have faith that we will see a turn-around. I believe in Coach Rose.

In the aftermath of jammer-mania, it appears the cougs are now the ones being jimmered. During his time there, jammer did not participate in playing defense, passing, setting screens or rebounding.

Many of the players on this team were witness to that type of basketball as rookies and are merely following the style of shoot first, play defense never, ball hog basketball they were exposed to when the American idol played for the cougars.

I really don't know why I even bother taking a few minutes to send in a comment; this team isn't worth the time. Put a fork in 'em. They are done. Toast. They seem to have no cohesiveness. Can't play together. No character. Dare we say - no talent. Everyone and no one wants to be the star. Rose can't get these guys to work. I don't fault him; he's put together good teams for many years. This year he's got a group (not team) that just won't respond. I've erased the schedule from my phone. They aren't work the bytes of memory. Try again next year....

I agree with the writer. BYU basketball is floundering in the WCC. Your local high school gym has more paying customers then these away games. The Mtn days were much better then these empty gym affairs. BYU needs a tough guy and they don't have one.
A gritty player who is a rebounding machine who sets tough picks. Too many shooters and not enough scorers. Hope Coach Rose figures it out. This team is reeling.
