To "Open Minded Mormon" get off your high horse, and read the articles that I referenced.

Again, Evil will find a way to kill. Having a gun in the house is only a side note. As I have pointed out, you can still have murder suicides without a gun, and they are gory because you now have pools of blood as people bleed out of knife wounds.

Just look at the stories out there where there were murder/suicides with knives. Are you prepared to make knives a banned item because evil people will begin to use knives more as guns become harder to get?

    You seem closed minded.

This is a sad story. But once again a gun is being blamed as the cause of this tragedy. A gun did not kill anyone. A person killed two people. Period. It is really irrelevant what weapon was used in a fit of rage to kill, the problem is the fit of rage.

    Answer my question...
How did having a gun save and protect ANYONE in that house?

And you don't need to explain it to me,
YOU need to explain to those kids.

A gun is not the only method of murder suicide. Think of poor Powell family. I wish we understood the mind better. If we could heal the mind, it wouldn't matter.

RedShirtCalTech is right on... We need to fund mental health both with Federal and State programs.... if someone is going to kill themselves they can do it with a 2 x 4 ... whatever is readily available is going to be the weapon... Guns just seem to be more readily available.
Frankly, I'd rather be shot than knifed or beaten to death.... you have a greater chance of survival with a bullet..not so much with hallow points...

To "Lightening Lad" you know, if you remove the guns, then it just turns to knives, bats, and other weapons. Removing guns from the population does not stop evil.

Read "Prattville teens killed in murder-suicide were stabbed to death" at WSFA.

If that isn't enough, read "Police identify three dead in Wyoming murder-suicide" from Reuters.

Not having a gun in the home just made the mentally ill turn to knives and a bow and arrow.

The problem isn't the guns, but mental illness. When is your ilk going to realize that?

Did you miss the article last week where the FBI reported on the killing sprees that were averted because they got mental health professionals involved with people that were planning on killing people?

    The FACT is,
    somebody got mad,
there was a gun in the house,
    2 parents are dead,
and 3 kids are now orphaned.

How is that making things up?

    Tell you what Flashback,
give us one single fact supporting having a gun in that house made anyone safer?

3 kids to relive this awful event for the rest of their lives...

My heart goes out to these kids and their extended families..

Anger + an available weapon is a recipe for disaster.

Good thing they had a gun in the house!
You know, to protect them from burglars, home invaders, and the Government.

God bless this poor, poor family.

Gun freaks never understand how having a deadly weapon close-by can turn despondency into suicide, a family argument into what we see here, murder-suicide. Had the firearm not been so easily obtainable the likelihood is that this couple would still be alive. Just having a firearm in the home increases the chance of successful suicide by 7X, murder by 4X according to the FBI. The chance of a gun used to kill yourself or a family member is 300 times greater than using a gun to protect oneself or family from intrusion or attack. Call me crazy but I would much rather hug a warm human being than a cold piece of steel.
