Cant find the game on cable here. Lets stop playing Utah until they get on a
better tv plan than the PAC 12. It was worth leaving the MWC its worth skipping
playing Utah. Maybe it we move all the bball games to Energy Solutions we could
get better TV coverage.
To all BYU fans. The Utes played USU in Logan in 2010 so we
haven't been afraid of playing them there. Do you really expect us to
believe 1 out of every 3 in Logan is a balanced schedule? Anyone who believes
ESA is truly a neutral court for BYU is kidding themselves. Go ahead and dis
our preseason schedule. We'll make up for it in the regular season when we
play 5 games against ranked opponents (one of those happens to be the current
#1) while BYU will only be playing 2. That's assuming Gonzaga hangs on to
its ranking. One loss to any team in the WCC and that ranking goes bye bye.
Bungalow,It has become so boring that fans and the muss rushed the field
not once or twice but three times after the last game at RES!!! And how will you
and the other Utah fans/ BYU haters react if Utah is able to upset the Cougs on
Sat. That is why we go on each others articles and bait each other because this
RIVALRY is anything but boring!!!GO BYU RISE UP!!!
Chris B,Basketball is so different then football! More games, more chances
for upsets!!! Kind of like SW Baptist over the Utes in the Huntsman Center a few
seasons ago!!! I bet you did not think BYU would beat mighty Stanford on the
road this season, did you? How do you think a team that scored 95 points against
UMASS will only score 69 against the Utes? GO BYU RISE UP!!!
Chris, You gave examples of why you feel the pac 10 is better than the WCC, and
yet there was no mention of your utes. Why would that be? According to you,
just being in the pac 10 makes the utes the best team in the State of Utah....in
every sport. Thanks for finally seeing it the way it is.
Why worry about it? If there is a problem scheduling Utah or Utah State,
I'm sure BYU fans would be willing to pay a bit more to have Baylor or Wake
Forest visit again. In state games certainly don't create the interest as
they did at one time when there were conference connections. If Dave Rose can
schedule home and home with a team normally found in the top 25 or hanging
close, that has to be a more exciting prospect win or lose. It sure helps RPI
and rankings if you do get the win. Beating Utah doesn't buy the Cougars
SpokaneUte & Big BlueThanks for the holiday wishes.I love
the idea of having a Deseret Tournament at ESA. That would be a blast and would
make for a post season type atmosphere early in the year. I don't think it
would be difficult to sell enough tickets and market this enough to bring some
decent financial returns. Maybe even have it around the Holiday season...would
be epic. I say we start petitioning. I'll even take you both to dinner
before the games to show how well Ute, Aggie and Cougar fans can get along,
despite wearing different colors...well almost different between Cougs and
Aggies anyway :)
"It must be tough being on the outside looking in!"At the
bowls and the Big Dance.See Utah!
Bungalow -Boring for whom? The Cougars, maybe, since BYU continues
to own Utah. And nifty recruiting will ensure that it stays that way for years.
How does it feel to be dominated by "dust?" And running and hiding from
Utah State (more dust?) is unbecoming and just plain wrong.
anti BCSAs fans like you are enough reason for most Utah fans.
Congrats! It must be tough being on the outside looking in!
"Utah and BYU don't play each other in football next year so you will
have to find another reason or excuse to be bitter and to hate Utah."Arrogant, full-of-themselves Utah fans are reason enough.
Chewbacca"The Cougar fans obsession with the PAC 12 logos is
hilarious! Do you know why we put them all over?"Easy answer.U put them all over everything because you have no accomplishments of
your own to brag about:- 9-18 in football- 8-28 in
basketball- 17-46 overall since joining the conference
The cougar fans obsession with the PAC12 logos is hilarious! Do you know why we
put them all over? Because, for thirty years we were told by rabid cougar fans
that someday the PAC10 would expand again and take BYU in. Thats why we love to
remind you that we got invited and you didn't.
poyman,The top 5 WCC teams would do well against the top 5 Pac 12
teams?LOL. No. Arizona #1 in the country is better
than #1 GonzagaTop #15 Oregon is much better than unranked byu(if
byu is second)Top 25 Colorado is better than unraked St.
"Neutral court should be out of state" Tracker:So I suppose you were the ONLY y "fan" who didn't claim the
coug's upcoming 3-game football series with Univ of Arizona was a true
home-and-home, since the third "neutral site" game will be at Univ. of
Phoenix Stadium. Love the consistency, y "fans".
Crow Sandy , UTTell me sir how will the loss total increase
dramatically once Utah starts conference play. Utah has the depth, size,
versitility, and skills to compete in the Pac-12.**********So,
what you are saying is the Utes are back? NCAA Championship title game? Pac
semis is what ya got? Yay Ute Football, done and gone. Yay Ute basketball, gave
up before the season started. Yay PAC stickers! When is the parade?
@poyman "So tired of hearing about how tough the big bad pac12 is and how
weak the WCC is... Truth is that the top 5 teams of the WCC would do very well
against the top 5 pac12 teams on neutral sites...PAC12 vs. WCC
(sagarin)#2 > #1118 > 2221 > 2733 >
7842 > 112Even with you cherry picking the top half of the
WCC, it's not even close. It gets even worse when you consider the full
WCC conference with mighty Santa Clara checking in at a stellar 201. Don't
try to make the WCC something it really isn't.... tough.
@PoymanUtah and BYU don't play each other in football next year
so you will have to find another reason or excuse to be bitter and to hate Utah.
I'm sure you will come up something. You always seem too.
@ Cougar11 "The patsy's they are playing this year is an
embarrassment"Utah's patsies are font-end loaded,
BYU's are back-end loaded during conference play. Just a little truth you
and other Y fans either ignore or are oblivious to.
BYU and USU both tend to fill seats in their respective stadiums. A 1-1-1 deal
works well with them because we know their fans will travel to that neutral site
game at Energy Solutions every third year. How is attendance at the
Huntsman right now? If they can't fill their own building, can you really
trust that fans are going to show up at Energy Solutions or any other neutral
court? It's not worth it for either USU or Utah to agree to a neutral site
game. And USU would be foolish to do anything less than a 1-1 agreement when
they can pack their house and Utah can't.As for the game on
Saturday, some things we can predict:1) BYU should win this game. If they
don't, it's because they play poorly. Sorry, but BYU is the better
team.2) Regardless of who wins, BYU will compete for the championship of
the WCC and (barring total disaster) get a bid to the NCAA tournament.3)
Regardless of who wins, Utah will finish no better than mid-conference and miss
the NCAA tournament.
So tired of hearing about how tough the big bad pac12 is and how weak the WCC
is... Truth is that the top 5 teams of the WCC would do very well against the
top 5 pac12 teams on neutral sites...In addition... Even if the big
bad pac 12 was all that, the truth is that the Conference would be rated higher
and tougher if the utes weren't in it... They continue to be the doormat of
the conference half way through their third year... They are in the bottom three
in all the major sports Football, Basketball, and Baseball... The only thing
that they have going for themselves is Women's Gymnastics... No other pac12
team are as horrible as the utes... That is why the ute fans talk up the
conference instead of their teams... Their teams just aren't competitive...
Granted they rise up to beat the Cougs 4 years in a row but I expect that will
come to a grinding halt next year... Then what???
Merry Christmas Cougsndawgs! Great insight. My life is better if I
don't read comments from about four posters. Life is too short. I'd love to see an annual December tournament on the Jazz court with all
of the Utah universities. Make it December madness and make it all about the
joy of college sports. Too bad $$$$ and egos would never let such a tournament
happen. Although it seems that such a tournament could generate some
significant cash for all of the programs.Go Aggies! Go Cougars! Go
Wildcats! Go Wolverines! Go Thunderbirds! Go Utes!
@ No playoff for UUnfortunately for U, Utah's loss total will
also increase, dramatically, because Utah's cream puff pre-season schedule
has left the Utes completely unprepared to face the rigors of conference
play.Tell me sir how will the loss total increase dramatically once
Utah starts conference play. Utah has the depth, size, versitility, and skills
to compete in the Pac-12. Last year with out the depth, size, versitility, and
skills Utah started to gel winning their last two against Oregon, Oregon St. and
winning two to make it to the semifinal in the Pac-12 tourney. Even your
Greg Wrubel said on the raido last night that Wright posses a problem for byu
and likened him to the G out of UMass. Quick and athletic. Utah can throw
several players at Mika and get him in foul trouble and who is byu going to use
at that point Austin to help defend? Wruble said that they are desprate when it
comes to their bigs and need Kaufusi to help out the basketball team.Utah
will be just fine in Pac-12 play and will win Saturday but thanks for your
What Utah State fans fail to realize is both Utah's and BYU's athletic
programs are 2-3x more valuable brands, yet they act like Chris Hill and Tom
Holmoe should treat them as equals? BYU only goes out of theri way so far for
Utah State since they without question get a lot of political preasure to do so
from their governance board with Utah State people with power near the top. The
state of Utah Board of Regents however is overwhelmingly now stacked in the
University of Utah's favor whch is why Utah will go out of its way to treat
the Aggies as the kid-brother cow college they are.
@MormonUte, BYU played in Logan in 2011 and will again in 2014 as part of the
regular schedule with Logan, Provo, Energy Solutions. No arrogance or fear
from BYU in scheduling a balanced and fair arrangement with Utah State.
This is everyone's last year to take pot shots at the U bball program. Get
your shots in now because the program will return to its former spot as a
national top 20 team each year. Enjoy your chance to bag on the U, because it is
coming to an end.
Mormon Ute: We played there two years ago, and will be there next year. How
about you guys?
For all the accusations of arrogance coming from the Cougar fans their comments
here indicate they are the ones who are truly arrogant. When was the last time
the Y played a bball game in Logan?I'm content to let the
players decide who's better on the court. I'll be at the game and
I'm looking forward to a good one.
As a Cougar Fan I hope the series continues. I do think Dave Rose put pressure
on Dr. Hill by making public what was being spoken about in private. I think
that was smart as many in this state see the U of U being the one responsible
for ending the yearly football rivalry with the Y. I don't think they want
another black eye ending this one as well when everyone knows that it is easy to
schedule a yearly basketball game. There are at least a dozen non-conference
games for heavens sake; anyone could figure this one out. Also, I
agree with Aggie fans this game between the U of U and Utah State should remain
and should stay home and away. The U coach needs to know that your team gets
better for conference play when they go into hostile arenas and play good
programs. The patsy's they are playing this year is an embarrassment and
won't help you prepare for the Pac 12 talent you are going to face. Finally, I am all for a State tournament, but you need another team for
an even number; how about Lone Peak!
@CougsnDawgsAs usual, well put and nicely done. Happy Holidays
@Eddie Would GoOnly the blue anger gets posted, us red folk get censored.
The Y has owned the Utes the past few years in Basketball. I know that fact is
lost on Utah football boosters, but it is true none the less. The U would be
nuts to dump the Y in basketball, and they are nuts not to play Utah State 9or
just plain chicken). The U is actually winning this year. Who are they
playing? Snow College?
The volume of anger on the Deseret News comments boards from "nice"
people always amazes me.
Meh...who cares. I could take this rivalry or not nowdays. All the vitriol
coming out of both camps over a game is getting old & ridiculous, and I
blame myself as much as anyone for trash talking with ute fans. It's CFB
and CBB folks, not life. Whether BYU wins or loses or Utah wins or loses has
nothing whatsoever to do with me, so I've made a New Years resolution just
to say it how it is, and leave the trash talking to much younger guys than me,
who haven't realized there's more to life and still collect baseball
cards and watch their daily Family Guy. Cheers y'all and happy holidays to
Cougars, Aggies, Utes, Wildcats, Thunderbirds, and Wolverines (I think
that's UVUs mascot) :).
Okay utah, how about neutral site at Maui Invitational. Sure a lot big rich
"u" people can afford to attend there and many byu fans from Hawaii will
go too. Sounds Good?
indywac"Once conference schedules start, Utah's SOS will
increase."Unfortunately for U, Utah's loss total will also
increase, dramatically, because Utah's cream puff pre-season schedule has
left the Utes completely unprepared to face the rigors of conference play.
Based on Utah's basketball record against BYU over the last few years, I
could certainly understand dropping BYU from their basketball schedule in favor
of Southern North Dakota University or Western South Carolina College. Of
course, they would loose their only sell out.
When Chris Hill says the discussion with Utah State have become difficult and
uncomfortable, is that because Hill calls the Aggies up and says "Look,
we're in the Pac 10 and have tons of Pac 10 stickers, therefore, we get to
tell you how things will be. We will give you a 2 for 1 if you want, take it or
leave it"?The arrogance shown on the hill these days is
unbelievable. Certainly the aggies aren't pushing for anything other than
what has always been done. But now Chris Hill has to look down at the aggies?
I hope the serires continues and I'd like to see them play home and home
each year. This rivalry makes for some great debate and back and forth. Although
some times I feel like I'm debating an angry blue tree stump. Not always,
mind you, but certainly some times.
“The Utah State thing, which I think is important to know, that’s
just been more difficult.”Translation - Utah State refuses to
roll over for Pac-12 Proud.
Wow, the trolls are out in force today.I think the ESA tournament is
great idea. I think SL would be a great place for a small tourney. The quick
turnaround is good for teams in preparation for conference and possibly other
tournaments at the end of the season. Go Utes!!
I think it is time for Dr. Hill to retire. He and KWhitt continue to rest on
past seasons while their programs continue to swirl down the tank. They continue to fiddle, while the programs are in ruins.
Once conference schedules start, Utah's SOS will increase. Some team in
Utah County will go way down. Nice job Utah in scheduling Kansas for
next year.I do like the idea of playing in the ESL as a local
tourney. Utah, USU, UVU, Dixie, Weber, SUU and any other team from Utah County
that wants to play.
Whew! Now we can all sleep tonight...Hill made it sound like the US and the
Russians and the STARTII Treaty. Get over yourselves, people, this is just
sports being played by kids.
I don't really care if the ute vs Cougs game goes away... All it does is
drag down the Cougs SOS for Tournament consideration... I think that I'd
rather play a 5th nationally Ranked team in preseason and that would give the
utes another Division II game to prop up their W-L record...
i think the series should continue as it is good for the state. I agree with our
desnews moderator StGtoSLC that utah picked up a nice away game by a top ten
team. That should he;p to build the program although it is too basd they not
get a return game in slc.
Whether Chris Hill means to or not, the perception of Utah is one of total,
unabashed, and undeserved arrogance from the hill. This from a team who has been
horrid the last several years. How hard can it be to schedule BYU, especially if
they're moving games for you? And the arrogance to not play Utah State?
Come on. He's managed to unite BYU and USU fans. Pretty impressive work Dr.
Hill. I can't decide if they really do feel like they're better or if
they don't want to get embarrassed until they are sure their program has
turned around(which will probably happen). It's likely the second. Either
way this is no way to make friends with your in state rivals.
Apparently it is ok to get thumped each year by the Cougars but not by the
Aggies. There could only be two problems with the u scheduling
games with USU: 1) u is unwilling to schedule one for one games with USU 2)Larry
Krystkowiak is terrified of entering the Spectrum (which leads to the 1st
problem)I miss the Rick Majerus era when the u fielded a men's
Just saw coach k's comment about the situation. First he tries to act
insulted that coach rose said the ute's aren't cooperating. Coach k
said he's excited to play byu. After saying it's not them that
don't want it to happen, he slipped and said he wants a third year neutral
court at ESA. Humm?? Really? What is that 1.3 miles away from the huntsman
center? Wow!! I have an idea. Neutral court should be out of state. Any state.
See if the ute's agree to that. Nope!
CFiT: "Glad to hear the Utes are planning to keep one good non-conference
game on their slate to go along with a bunch of cupcakes."Seriously? Didn't bother to read the announcement today of a perennial
top 10 team being scheduled?
Glad to hear the Utes are planning to keep one good non-conference game on their
slate to go along with a bunch of cupcakes.I makes no sense why Utah
and USU can find a way to meet once each year also. Utah's probably
looking for a 2 for 1, when USU is clearly the better BB program and deserves an
alternating schedule between Logan and SLC.
(Chickens clucking)Yeah, it must be pretty difficult to pickup a
phone and calendar at the same time to find a date to play my Aggies.
"AD Chris Hill doesn't foresee interruption of BYU series"Until he sees the results Saturday. Look for Fresno to suddenly appear on
that schedule. Oh wait, it's already there. Can't play that card
this time boys. Pretty clear who will be more prepared for this
game. BYU just beat a 2-win team by 48. Utah won by what, 7, to a 3-win team,
having to come from behind to grind out a win. BYU already played a rivalry
game and wore them out at the end. Oh, and they played Weber, so that's
two rivalry games already with 2 green W's. Already beat a PAC team on the
road. Utah beat....uh...Nationally ranked by the Department of Agriculture -
Grand Canyon. Utah needs an A game to win...that is all there is to
it. BYU is WELL tested so far. Glad Utah has a backbone and good sense to keep
at least basketball going. The BYU/Utah rivalry is too good to discontinue in
I don't think either athletic director should want this rivalry to continue
because when BYU and Utah play each other, BYU's SOS goes down and
Utah's goes up; a bad outcome for both schools.
