What the citizens need to see is the entire budget... the governor should take out a full page add in the new paper showing the budget in as much detail as possible, department by department, etc. The public also deserves to see info on wages/benefits.

Will that ever happen? Not likely. Government officials aim is to keep the public in relative darkness re where the citizens' tax money goes.

Herbert's budget is a cop-out. The only way to bring our schools out of the pit of mediocrity they are in is to DOUBLE the education budget. That means Utah's parents would actually have to pay the price for excellence, which they are so far unwilling to do. It would limit their ability to buy starter mansions and boats and big-screen TVs for every room, etc.....

This makes me nervous if everybody LIKES the budget. Usually that means trouble.

IMO you try to trim the budget until EVERYBODY is complaining a little... and then you probably have it about right. When every agency is fat-and-happy... you are probably spending too much.
