Good win...not as good as beating Evergreen State, but we'll take it.

Say what you want about the game, but dissing Weber St. is short sighted.

To what in Tucket. Berry is not 6'9, rather around a 6'4 or 5 guard. Very good player. Mika needs to learn how to be physical. The new hands rule gives the advantage to the offensive player. The Weber players was very good. I think he got around 24 and Berry about the same. Not 28.
I like BYU but they seem to be forcing the issue too often which will really hurt them when they play a good team. I watched Utah State play USC. They are really good. I'm not sure the Y can beat them.
Carlino is a little selfish sometimes which hurts the team. I'd like to see Halford play more. He seems to be a pure shooter but never gets the ball. He could really help the Y when they need a shooter. Otherwise he may end up a disappointment like the two last year did. You have to play to develop that confidence. I hope he'll get the chance.

I see a lot of talent on the Weber team. Very good athletically.

As for BYU, I generally liked what I saw. Carlino was using the midrange game more often than not. He even banked in a shot from 8 feet out instead of overpenetrating. I do agree that he needed to assist more in this game. But overall, impressive for him.

Haws, good outing as usual. Not too much forcing shots.

Mica has speed, athleticism, coordination and size. He has NBA potential. BYU needs to find him cutting to the basket through all the different options to do that.(pick and roll, off ball screens, etc.) He is unstoppable on the move going to the basket. This needs to be used in the half court set.

Nate Austin needs to shoot those 15 to 20 footers more. Shot one and made it. Looked good on the glass.

Collinsworth needs to not over penetrate on the way to the hoop. Pull up and bank the shot from 8 feet out. He could slay teams with that shot. He has size, speed and ball handling. Develop midrange game and he has it all.

Weber State has a quality team, won 30 last year, remember NBA rookie of they year Damian Lillard was a WSU one at Y seems to want to acknowledge the team from Ogden, but they are well-coached and have a great tradition of winning. Remember NBA coaches Dick Motta and Johnson coached there. Weber's freshmen guards were very good. Both teams still getting their legs underneath them and should go far this season. Great game.

BYU won't hit their potential until their point guard values assists over points.

Weber's runs were often fueled by the refs swallowing their whistles. Haws drives to the basket, gets sandwiched by two Weber players, no call. BYU player goes up for a rebound, two Weber players come flying in and knock him to the ground, no call, leads to easy Weber lay up.

I am also getting absolutely sick of the fact that defensive players seem to get away with putting their hands all over the opposing player. Yet, when the opposing player even lifts his arm to fend off the hand, he gets called for an offensive foul. I thought they wanted to see more offense? How about starting with calling at least some of the grabs?

    @ vegaspov:

The "juggernaut Weber State" you mention won 30 games last year. Southern Cal went 14-18.

I think BYU comported itself quite well, thank you.

As a Cougar fan, I didn't last night's result as "convincing".

    Nov. 9, 2013 10:47 a.m.

It was a game with a lot of streaks, but the one that stood out the most was all the missed shots in the first ten minutes by Weber, perhaps some of the credit might be due BYU for improved defensive play but Weber seemed to miss everything except a couple shots by their center.

BYU held the lead the whole way but Weber out hussled BYU the last few minutes to make the margin closer. Weber actually outscored BYU in the 2nd half by 2 points.

I think it was a good game for BYU, Weber was no slouch, but BYU will really need to improve if they want to beat the better teams on their schedule.

Good all around game. Love KC and TH double/double. Mat Carlino would of have double/double if he put in more assists which he had 6 and how many turnover, zero which was much much better than last year and keep it up. MC becoming more of a ball hog and need to dish more assists but Dave Rose is the one what best for MC. Mika looking really good on the floor.

Congrats cougs, off to a fine start again this year. Your guard play is deeper than recent memory which should bode well for cougs throughout the season.

Wow a convincing 9 point win against that juggernaut Weber State! Oh and Utah State barely squeeks by with a 13 pint win against (Sisters of the Poor) Univiersity of Southern California. Congrats Cougars.

It seemed to me that Weber was the better team once they got going. Their center gave Mika a nice lesson on how to do it. I think he had 28 points. Dave Berry their 6'9" forward could be an NBA candidate and they had other excellent players as well. 3 seniors started. BYU is a work in progress and could be pretty good by the end of the season. Tyler Haws is on his game and Carlino can do incredible things. BYU has a lot of good players.

The Cougs are balanced and deep.

Carlino is looking much better than last year. He is playing like he did in the NIT. I think we will see a lot of games where Carlino and Haws score 20+ each and Mika and Collinworth put up double, doubles this year. Austin was solid in all aspects, except scoring.

Winder, Bartley, Worthington and Sharp will all add valuable minutes off the bench.

It should be a good run against the Zags for the WCC crown, and I don't see any reason this team won't get an NCAA invite.

Against a good non-conference schedule, we shouldn't lose more than 2 or 3 and 2 losses at most in conference play.

ESPN box score doesn't have the line for several players. Does anyone have stats for Mika?

Nice solid win tonight. The score makes it seem like this was a close game but BYU was up by 20 much of the game. This team is deep and has no seniors. Great time to be a Cougar fan.
