My scouts make an annual visit to tour the displays and learn about copper and mining as part of the Geology merit badge.

Since the visitor's building was removed prior to the slide, perhaps it could be temporarily set up down by the entrance with a new section or film about the slide and the efforts going into the recovery effort. A virtual tour of the mine after the slide would be great. That would make it worth the visit even without being able to look into the mine itself.

Of course, if you are going to go to all the trouble to document all that in electronic form, set it up on a website and people the world over could visit the mine!
