There is a saying -- If you strike at the king you must kill the king. In other words, there are some fights you should not start unless you know you will win them. The Lee / Cruz fight over Obamacare was doomed from the start as any good Republican nose counter could have told them. Does Lee look stronger or weaker for the fight? Does the Republican party look stronger or weaker for the fight?

The Koch brothers play him and his followers like puppets. The tea party tantrum was a low point in our countries history.

Utah bought a show pony with Senator Lee, who's cast himself in hook line and sinker with the likes of Sarah Palin (OK, I"m officially sick of her now), and Ted Cruz.

My question is, what has he done for Utah so far? Anything?

What business does he have going to Iowa? There are enough problems in Utah to deal with, Mike. That's why you were elected, to help take care of Utahns you represent. Quit humming "Hail to the Chief" when you look in the mirror and get busy doing some actual work and legislating instead of running to all of the talk shows and off to Iowa for fundraisers! Don't you have enough to do?

SHAME on Sen Lee and all the Tea Partiers who keep acting destructively, not constructively.

Shame on the Koch Brothers and other rich interests who purchased the Government shutdown with $100,000,000 or more dollars.

Shame on the Americans who have been duped into ridiculous thinking, such as "Obama is trying to take over the Government and have a 3rd term, so that he can give all our money to the poor and the Blacks"

But, sorry, a big world of shame on people who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ, yet give their support to 3rd rate politicians who can only destroy America, and have no idea how to build back our strength.

There is only one Mike Lee. He's a divisive, dishonest, crass, mendacious politician who will do and say whatever it takes to get him what he happens to want at any given moment. The only thing he knows about the Constitution is how to use it as a tool to get what he wants. If he doesn't get what he wants, he throws a tantrum and tries to wreck things (like the country). He is the VERY last thing this country and the State of Utah needs. It's time to get rid of him.

The mistake Senator Lee is making is that he has already forgotten that all politics is local. He is in South Carolina, Iowa, etc. He is all over the world but what in the world has he done for Utah? Nothing.

Why would I want Sen Lee to stand up and tell us all how lucky every member of congress is that they are not subject to Obamacare? Then he should publicly call upon Harry and Nancy to take a stand on why, if it is so great, that the congress is exempt from it. It's time for Nancy and Harry to come clean----just this once.

    What is the topic....Sedition?

ACA is the law, confirmed by the Supremes. There were over 40 votes taken during the Legislative Session (the right time to address this) and every one failed, it just took tome from doing something usefull if that is possible. How about a budget for FY2004 before 1 Oct 03.

What Lee, Kruz and others did was sedition.

Mikhail, hit the hammer directly on the nail, the DN has used completely biased sources such as Dan Jones and Associates, Quinne Monson of BYU as sources for attacking Mike Lee. Utah voters are too alert for this biased reporting we know the truth and we support Mike Lee. SL county represents 35% of the citizens but seems to get 95% of the media coverage.Last week I was with 20 citizens over 50 every single person completely rejects the policies of Obama and are scared to death of the deficit and moral decline of our country. The DN ignores these people and attacks Lee for opposing Obamacare.

WHICH Ted Cruz will show up?

Most likely the one who WANTS to shrink the size of government, quit spending money we don't have, and trust us to take care of our own healthcare needs.

For just those 3 things I thank him!

The DN doesn't acknowledge that the GOP is run by Big Corporations and Lobbyists. Mike Lee and Ted Cruz don't represent those Big Corporations and Lobbyists - - thus the public relations smear in the Mainstream Media against them. I never considered DN as part of the politics-as-usual pandering group - don't start now. You should be applauding the grass-roots segment of the GOP, including Mike Lee and Ted Cruz, which wants the Constitution respected.

So now it's "poor and biased media coverage" that causes Lee's problems?

Are you sure it's not just plain foolishness?

Let me see if I have the picture correct: Our Senator Lee has been by the side of Senator Cruz, hanging out with Sarah Palin, and making radical right wing comments while shutting down the government. This behavior has made him the darling of the Tea Party which is now extending him invitations to speak at up coming far right events. Is this correct?
I'm not sure, but this seems like a good way to become a one term Senator.

truth: Detroit's financial woes began long before Obama took office. Corporate profits are at records high under Obama, much higher than when Reagan was president. GM's redesigned Chevrolet Impala was scored 95 by Consumer Reports, a stunning score higher than Camry and Accord. Auto sales are doing very well. Chrysler is operating the only plant in Detroit. Operating at full capacity the plant builds Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees. Agreed Obamacare is off to a rough start. A little premature to call it a total failure. I am not liberal. I did not vote for Obama. I am trying to point out how totally one sided you are. You are blinded by your hate for Obama.

To the three commenters above, as with any activity that people are involved in, it's not always the one out in front of the public who is doing all the work. I would say on the Democratic side, that many good senators were working to douse Harry's words, and there were many Republicans trying to douse Cruz's and Lee's words and actions -- so there could be some resolution. I don't care what committee you are on, you never win if you're just trying to squash people. There has to be give and take. Condolessa Rice said a few weeks ago in SLC that if the only words you're hearing are in agreement with you, you better find someone else to talk to -- to hear both sides. I'm paraphrasing, but it's true....you can't be the boss of everybody. There has to be some people in the trenches doing the actual work and doing the compromising. That wasn't Lee and Cruz.

There is only one Mike Lee. He has never been "divisive" or "strident." Those are words that those who oppose his ideas use. Mike is the type of man we should all want our representatives to be. He listens, he cares, he thinks and he understands.

Deseret News, get with it. You need to get an understanding of who your readers really are. Just as most all national leaders need to get outside the beltway in their mentality, the Deseret News needs to get outside of the downtown Salt Lake and the Avenues mentality. Most of Utah doesn't think like that. Most of Utah is behind Mike Lee and what he stands for. "Pundits" are people who like to hear themselves talk.

Mike will always have my support as long as he stands for tried and true principles and as a defender of the Constitution.

Lee's communications director is bemoaning the supposed "poor and misleading coverage of Sen. Lee in the news media."

It was this same communications director who refused the D News an interview when the reporter wanted to ask about Utahns negative reaction to Lee's antics. It isn't "poor and misleading" if the media report what Lee says and how he acts. He has no one to blame but himself for his dismal favorability ratings and the backlash he's getting from the majority of his constituents.

The DN didn't poll me! So here's my opinion. I think Senator Mike Lee is a hero. He actually did what we elected him to do...go back to Washington, D.C., and make a difference by speaking for the people of Utah and this country. We appreciate his standing for Constitutional principles and being so fearless! I am disappointed that the news agencies in Utah are not behind this fine, principled, and honest man. Shame on us for letting the policies in this country get so out of control. I think we have a largely uninformed public as to what is really going on.

We were commenting last night that Nixon was shamed into resigning as President over a break-in and then lying about it. Seems like child's play compared to today!

Yes, we are going to show up Saturday to say thank you, Senator Lee, for representing us well!

Who wants to listen to Lee when you can listen to the likes of those bastions of honesty and integrity like OBAMA and REID?

Tell us LIbEralS all about how LEE's lack of integrity, caused Obama to once again fail at the job he has been elected to do.
    It's LEE's fault:
Obamacare has failed and is the single greatest disaster in legislative history....
Benghazi and four dead Americans and the YouTube video....
Detroit is bankrupt and GM is still bleeding and owes the gov't BILLIONS"....
More people today on welfare than ever in history......
90 million Americans are out of work...
Putin is more highly regarded in the world than the noble peace prize winning Obama.....

Lee is a HERO and I for one will be there wearing red white and blue to show him my adoration and appreciation......and so should you!

The biased news media and the squishy Republican party elites keep bashing Senator Lee, but people who pay attention to what is happening to this country adore him for at least trying to halt the destruction.

Lee's efforts (with Ted Cruz and others) was not successful, but they tried. W ekonw they will try again with a different tactic, and keep trying.

What is the plan of his critics to stop the destruction? When will they take action to implement their plan, if they have one at all?

We are in the mess we are in because too many Republicans simply refuse to risk offending anyone or doing anything that may endanger their re-election chances.

Especially ask Orrin Hatch what he has DONE to stop Obamacare and our unsustainable spending habits. An occasional speech to voters, or a press conference? Those don't count, when his "seniority and clout" in the Senate he bragged about are never used.

    Bravo, Mike Lee!

Why do they need to spend $1000 to listen to Mike Lee rile and fire up the Tea-Party audience?

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck do the same thing all day every day for free.
