Actually, in Herriman's year of existence in 2010, they played in Region 3 with Bingham. They made the playoffs with the #4 seed.

The region finished 1 Bingham 2 Riverton 3 Kearns 4 Herriman. West Jordan, Copper Hills and Taylorsville did not make the playoffs as they all lost to Herriman.

Herriman beat Taylorsville in their first ever region game and then funnily enough believed they were going to give Bingham a really good game the next week, but it was 45-0 at half.

Footballisgood: You may want to check your facts bud. Bingham has never been in Herriman's region.

footballfollower was just stating some facts why are you getting offended? All he said was the play calling was subpar there is alot of things that could have been said for crying out loud, and after speaking to alot of coaches that have played Herriman they said Herriman's offensive Coordinator is very predictable in what he does. Bottom line is Herriman is a team of ups and downs this season they can play with anyone in the state and then they look bad in other games. Look for Herriman to have a good game against Layton and then it will be a showdown of power house football between Herriman and Brighton. Best of Luck to both teams.

    Lets get these playoffs started

Herriman is a team of ups and downs this they can't quite get over the hunch of beating the elite teams in 5A. Many coaches that I have spoken with say Herriman's offensive coordinator is very predictable and has been very up and down and there offense has had a ton of turnovers. Footballisgood- why are you getting so offended when someone says that the play calling was sub par I honestly don't think that's that bad. Heck there could be a lot of other rude and mean things that could have been said. Lets not be so sensitive on here people. Lastly good luck to all of the teams in the playoffs may the best team win.

Yes prepFan you are right. The Cuse did make it to the championship over your other Region 3 teams. As you guys beat on your chest and pose like a peacock, region 1 was knocking off the rest of your region to get to the championship. You havent watched many region 1 games this year except the ones you have seen on TV. Your knowledge shows what you dont know about the top 3 teams. PigSkinFan says the same thing. I can see what you are saying but dont fully agree with both of you. I know you talk about the defense that gave up 58 points in the finals. We got rolled. But that defense shut down your power teams to get to the championship game. I have heard we werent that good last year but either were your other region 3 teams. Sorry just fact. You also have 6 returning starters back on that bad defense. 3 out of the 4 lineman are all returning as well. These boys have been their before and you can count they will get there again. Onward and Upward. Sound familiar? Go "Cuse"!!!!!!!

We need to take into consideration Herriman and Bingham was a 6 point game late in the 4th quarter. When Herriman played Jordan it was much the same 6 point game with 4 min. left without their senior RB's. Nobody's talking about that but If Herriman takes on Jordan again i think Herriman takes it.Bingham obviously is the team to beat and the sleeper is Herriman. Corner Canyon is an up and coming team but lost to Westlake who was blown out by everyone in region 4. It takes time to play competitive football in 5 A in the competitive regions. Corner Canyon will have a more competitive team for 5A with time. The funny thing about Herriman is they play a power style run game similar to Bingham which bodes well over time. Herriman has a huge line and will reuturn most of the offensive line.
Does anyone know where there is a complete 5A brackett?

Check your stats, prep fan. Herriman played their first year in 5A in a region including Bingham and Riverton, and faced Cottonwood in the first round of the playoffs, a game in which Herriman led at halftime before giving way in the second half. I am not sure why the negativity toward Herriman when. I was very complimentary to Corner Canyon and giving them their due.

Herriman was 4A for their first three years, this is their first year in 5A. They have not won a state game (0-3) at the 4A level in that time, they did win a "play in" game one of those years. Sorry, I am not that impressed.

Corner Canyon will be dominant from here on out in football. Their entire core are juniors, and their sophomore team is very very good too. Their younger groups are also loaded with talent.

@goaggies1 - Region 1 "field position football" might earn you an upset, but it won't win you a title. Can you think of any Region 1 state champions in football in the last few years? I can't. It did score Syracuse 2 points in the championship last year though. But their awesome "D" yielded 58.

I still think Syracuse can beat Alta this year too, but there is no way on this planet Region 1 is good enough to win a state title. I'll go ahead and say that for next year too, Region 1 can't win one in football.

Corner Canyon's season has been impressive. They won a share of the region title, which is something that Herriman cannot claim. I think what makes Herriman's first year impressive to me (not more impressive than Corner Canyon, just trying to say why people think it was a big deal) is that Herriman made the playoffs in 5A in their first year with an enrollment that would have been a small 4A school. Both accomplishments are noteworthy and something to be proud of by the respective communities, as they are both atypical for first year schools

PrepFan, that's how we do things in region 1. Field position buddy. That's how you win games by letting your punter out punt the other guy. 3-0 score is fine by me. I remember 2 years ago when Syracuse played Alta at Alta and used the field position game to their advantage. If I remember that right Alta was a 1 seed and the Cuse was a 4th seed. Tell me again what happened. It depends on your team and the weapons you have. There is nothing wrong playing field position and good defense. A good offense wins games a good defense wins championships. Just a mind set my friend.

Big Benzo, Corner Canyon won a share of the region title in their first year. So is making the playoffs in your first season really that big of a deal?

I respect Herriman High, but not enough to put them in a serious conversation about who will win the 5A tourney. There are only 3 teams that I believe can honestly challenge for it. Bingham is the obvious answer, and Brighton and Jordan are the only other two that have enough in them to win it all. (Jordan due to the fact they get a cakewalk into the semis - Brighton too)

Syracuse can't be taken seriously in the real scheme of things, because they play like Davis does. If you go into games hoping to move the ball 15-20 yards so you can punt and try to win the field position battle, you can't beat teams that look at that mentality as "if you pin us on the 15 that just means 85 years of offense the other way". Field position is not going to win the 5A title, points will. That is why nobody in Region 1, 3, or 4 can be taken seriously.

    My predictions.

    Davis over PG.
    Lone Peak over Syracuse.
Herriman over Layton/Northridge. But Northridge will give the team they play a great game.
    Riverton over Layton/Northridge.

Davis gets the short end of the stick I think, like Herriman did last year. Go undefeated all year just to play a team that's 8-2 first round. Go figure.

#1 Herriman, #2 Riverton, #3 Lone Peak, and #4 Pleasant Grove is confirmed.

my prediction for the first round only are Region 3 wins all games, no brainer. Don't waste your time watching them.

Region 1 vs Region 4 really a coin flip, so I will go with all higher seeds win; 2 and 2. Best match up to watch because anyone can win, no underdogs.

@Prep Fan 89 - From day one of this season I said that this would be considered a rebuilding year due to a new coach and losing 13 starting seniors...3 of which signed D-I Scholarships. As far as identity...Herriman has plenty of it: First and only 5A school to make the playoffs its inaugural year, a 4 year old school with 4 playoff berths, 3 D-I signees and 2 straight region championships. Not bad for a new school in a rebuilding year.

Last year when Herriman played East in the playoffs...I predicted a close game and a win. Most posters said East would kill Herriman by 21, 28 or even 35. In the end, Herriman lost by 11. The funny thing is...of all the people that said we would get killed...only a few admitted that Herriman was better than they thought. They same held true for our game against Bingham. The #1 team in the state only beating "lowly" Herriman by 13 points.

You can't say Herriman might be a "one and done" in the playoffs without also saying they could "go all the way"...because in reality, both are very possible.

Before last night's game I was nervous for a rematch with Herriman because they were getting healthy at the right time missing most of their best players in the earlier game vs Jordan. After the game not such much to be honest; Herriman has its chances last night but couldn't put away P.G and obviously lost. Herriman can be good at times but losses like these kill a team and for tat reason Im not as nervous to play them. Not arrogant at all but if Jordan's offense is rolling, plus their defense, which hasn't been amazing this year but good enough to get turnovers then they can beat almost any team in 5A

Wow football follower, really? 41 points and the play calling was not very good? A TD on double pass, a great call on the last drive that is a TD if the pitch is caught, a nice call on the wildcat jump pass for the 2 point conversion, the screen at the end (terrible call on the hold). They put up more points against PG than anyone has all year. Nice armchair opinion, have you ever called the plays for a high school team? I doubt it.

Herriman did not play well last night they had some major mistakes with 2 big turn overs on fumbles that cost them 14 points, as well as some interesting and maybe not so affective play calling.
As I have said before don't sell Herriman short they could surprise all of you . They just need to keep their hands on the ball no fumbles a little more creativity in plays and they could be right in with the rest of the region for the playoffs.
Hold on it should be interesting.

I agree with Prep Fan 89, Region 3 will roll into the Semi and Finals. Region 1 and Region 4 match ups will be fairly even, it could go any direction; 2-2, 3-1, 0-4 for either Region. Both Mediocre Regions this year. Region 1 probably down more this year, than Region 4. Can't wait until the official shedule is released.

The Trib reported that the state seeding for this region would be decided by a "coin toss". Not sure if that's accurate but it seems a bit wild.

Neither Pleasant Grove or Davis will give Jordan a fight. And neither would Herriman.

Benzo we have been reading your comments all year long, the only thing you have been right about is the playoff seeding which had nothing to do with your personal opinion. How many "wakeup calls" does Herriman need? They are an average football team capable of playing with the best at times and capable of losing to the worst at times. Benzo they are a .500 football team this year. They have no identity, they play a game and lose 7-3 and in another where they lose 42-41. Who is this Herriman team? I'll tell you. They are a mediocre team that is very very capable of going one and done in the 5A tourney. Fortunately for them they are matched up with a mediocre region full of these types of teams.

It will be an all Region 3 semifinals, assuming Alta can hold serve as the #4 seed in round 2. The other three teams in Region 3 have a cake walk. 5A football stinks this year.

Congrats to Herriman, Riverton, Lone Peak and Pleasant Grove as Region 4 Champs. I was impressed by the heart of Pleasant Grove last night in their upset of Herriman.

Even though I would have preferred a win and the outright region championship...this game was a wakeup call to Herriman at the right time. Things will not get any easier...the road for Herriman looks like Layton, Brighton, Jordan, Bingham. I would expect a win over Layton and then hosting Brighton would be an exciting game.

After last nights game...I firmly believe Pleasant Grove has the ability to upset Davis and then give Jordan a strong fight.

The playoffs will be very exciting.

Great job Region 4! Great year so far. The 4 teams that are in will represent well at state, we hope! Lehi came on strong this year, too. Not sure what happened to AF? Well, yes I do know. Sometimes change, when things are going well, can come back and bite you! Good luck to all schools going to state! Can't wait for basketball.
