I remember back when President Hinckley did that 60 Minutes interview. One of the Sunday Pickles strips not long after that had a TV in the background with the picture switching between President Hinckley and Mike Wallace. The strip didn't have anything to do with the interview, but it was pretty cool.

My father-in-law had a very ambitious garden in his 1/4 acre yard, including squash, so when Pickles touches on the annual "get-rid-of-the-extra-squash" story line, my wife and I get a big laugh out of it.

Good story and Pickles is on my daily must read list.
However -- just curious. The LDS church seems to spend a lot time pointing out the famous and interesting people who are LDS either from childhood or conversion. This seems to indicate some insecurity. Perhaps it's because the LDS church is still a relatively young one. I'm not aware that the Catholics or Baptists or other more established churches spend as much time on such PR. I don't find it offensive -- just curious.

I haven't seen Brian Cranes work but if the picture strip is a reflection I'd haver to say I prefer my cartoons with a bit more satire. Calvin Grondahl specifically lampoons Mormon ideas and culture and does so quite well.

Pickles creator Brian Crane was the keynote speaker @ our 40th BYU anniversary. He was a classmate and a real inspiration. He creates a new cartoon every day which includes drawing it and the story line. This is creativity and art in action.

The pictured comic strip reminds me of my beloved father in law. He once said he was glad he got car insurance because now he wouldn't have to watch the road. He was serious.

I have always loved his strip! Now I wonder if he and my husband are related. The Cranes and the Dansies intermarried during the early days when Herriman UT was settled. It would be fun to know.

I love his work. I never miss it.
My wife uses his material in her Family Relations class.
Last week he explored who is the boss in the home. Classic responses.

I noticed those little temple pictures on the wall of Crane' strip back in about the late 1990s, I think, and I found his email address and asked if he was LDS. My wife wasn't sure they were really temples and thought I was daring to ask. But he emailed me back and told me I was right. Also little kid character has worn a CTR shirt. I love the strip.
