It's been great to be able to see Kyle evolve and become a better person over the past four years. This past game against Georgia Tech a bunch of his buddies from Reno came to watch him play. They came to the game intoxicated and were escorted out of the stadium after hopping on to the field after the game. Seeing his buddies act like that really makes me appreciate the well-rounded program of BYU athletics, and how it has also helped Kyle put into perspective where he is now and where he came from.

    Go Cougs!

Nice Win Cougars, two of the best plays of the year where made in this one...Hoffman's catch and Fua pick 6. Taysom once again looked sharp and just continues to get better, hope they can continue to build on this momentum and continue to get better each week. Go Cougars!

Thanks for a great game. The Tech fans, although few in number, were good sports. Nice to be at a game where the opposing fans are mannerly. Preston Hadley is what college sports should be about, building character. Good on the Cougars.

To those wishing for a couple plays back at Virginia, I say "Just one play" is all that would be about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

(I'd personally take back the holding call when we scored against Utah only to have it negated by PAC 12 Officials. But then Ute partisans wouldn't have won their annual bowl game.)

Regarding the 2nd half of the Georgia Tech game yesterday, you need to realize that half-time is for teams to evaluate and make adjustments. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, so adjustments were made by both defenses to stymie the other's offense. And the Y scored the most points in the 4th, Quarter, too, with GT getting their late score at the end in "garbage time," so lighten up. It's just possible a solitary third-stringer missed a defensive assignment that allowed a long run. That's all, nothing more.

@RepresentBlue. With all due respect I understood exactly what Chris B was getting at. My point to him was that, even though BYU can never do better than what Chris considers an ignominious bowl birth (non BCS) I was happy to point out to him that Utah has almost zero chance of making it to a BCS bowl either. They may be sitting at the table where they can have 1-2 losses and still get there, but every objective person out there knows that the utes are not much better than BYU or any of the former MWC class teams that Chris and guys seem to sneer at.

The truth is Chris is going to have to wait a long, long time to gloat over a BCS birth. I predict BYU makes it before they do again.

Good win, the 2nd half was frustrating , as several other posters have mentioned , Anae's play calling in the 2nd half stunk, everything looked good in the first half and then it was like a different team in the 2nd half, good thing the D played so well and even started the scoring in the 2nd half. I hope Anae and others of the offensive coaches look back and see that how they called the 2nd half was not something they should repeat.
Houston could be real difficult, they know how to put up a lot of points, I hope Anae see's what worked so well in the 1st half and tries to replicate those things that work.
Congrats to the Utes, big win.
I really would be excited if we could get a rematch against the Utes in a bowl game, by then Hill and Anae should have things worked out and Wilson will have matured and we could have a real good game. From my perspective Hill and Anae didn't have things figured out by the 3rd game when we played the Utes, I'd love to see a rematch. Bothteams better thanOpposingfans wantTogive credit.

Truth is BYU is playing for 2015. They will have Hill as a 3 year starter, Williams as a 4 year starter, Brown and Hine will be have more experienced, Kurtz will be in his second year in the program and the line will all be Juniors and Seniors. 2015 is the year that BYU can make a serious run at an undefeated record and some real national recognition. Hopefully everyone stays healthy and they have a chance. All BYU is doing now is laying a foundation for 2015, hopefully it works out. BTW 2015 is probably the year that Utah will break through and win the PAC 12 south title although not likely to ever beat Oregon for a Rose Bowl opportunity. Utah State will probably recede back into obscurity.

    @Christopher B, Ogden, Ut:

Did you see the projections on bowl games. Although this is a preliminary projection, it projects BYU to play USC in the Fight Hunger Bowl. Utah is projected to play a MWC team in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.

I remember a couple of years ago, a Utah fan or two on a BYU article was dissing BYU for having to play in the New Mexico Bowl. I guess we should be careful who we belittle as our words might turn around and bite us.

Great win, Utah. Also great win for my Cougars. Can't wait for next Sat for the Houston game. Go Cougs!

"Oh, if only we could take back just a few plays from the Virginia game,"

"Oh, if Taysom had only thrown this well against Utah."

I'm one of those fans you are speaking to directly! After watching Texas clobbered Oklahoma and later watching BYU beat up on Georgia Tech, I was seriously wishing that we had beaten Virginia and Utah. It would've been so sweet if we did. So close but no cigar! We could've been 6-0 instead of 4-2.

Anyhow, it was a great night of football for the state of Utah. Cougars had a great win! And Utah has an epic one for the record books! Congrats to both teams! Wish the Aggies pulled out an upset over the Broncos!

Go Cougars! Go Utes! Go Aggies!

As a cougar fan, I never watched a BYU game that I was complaining about this win at the end of the game because the second half was so boring. Thanks for the pick 6 from Alani Fua. It gave a bit of excitement. I had to admit I had to switch back and forth to the Ute game to cure my boredom. Nonetheless, it was a good win for the cougs. I'm looking forward for an exciting weekend down in Houston.

    @Surf is Up

As much as I hate to agree with Chris, he is right. The ceiling on BYU's bowl prospects were set the moment they lost to Virginia, who by the way is now 2-4. That loss will go down as one of Bronco's more embarrassing losses of his HC tenure. Yes, getting another win gets the Cougars one step closer be bowl eligible, but their bowl destination is firmly set in stone at this point, regardless of whether they are 6-6 or 10-2 going into it.

    Great win BYU!

    Great win Utah Utes!

If only Utah State could have beaten Boise State tonight. The Aggies are clearly going to miss Chuckie Keeton something awful.

I know Anae is working on some new offensive schemes this season, but the Cougars have some pretty good tight ends. I believe if Taysom could get them the ball more, the offense would be that much more exciting to watch.

I know some BYU fans are already saying:

"Oh, if only we could take back just a few plays from the Virginia game,"

"Oh, if Taysom had only thrown this well against Utah."

Fact is fellow Cougar fans, we can't change the past, we can only learn from it.

We still have Houston, Boise State, Wisconsin and Notre Dame to play this season, so it isn't too late to make some waves on the national scene.

Chris, how can BYU's victory have zero impact on their bowl prospects? That win just put them one game closer to being eligible. Here's some perspective you should consider: The victory over Stanford had more of a zero impact for U than BYU's win did (and I'm using your value system here). There is almost no chance that U will make it to the Rose Bowl and so, if U are somehow bowl eligible at the end of the season (still unlikely), then it will only be one of those miserable, filthy non BCS bowls that you would not even condescend to play in (if you were in charge of things).

You seem to conveniently forget or obfuscate that BYU has beaten more highly ranked teams than U have in the past. U are not the first to do so.

So try being a little magnanimous in victory for once. And go celebrate with your fello utes. Your obsession about being better than BYU in every way is very silly.

Huge BYU fan here... I really enjoyed the first half but I got to tell you that the play calling in the second half was horrible... Anae went from Dr. Jekyl to Mr. Hyde in 15 short minutes...

We shouldn't be sitting on the ball in the 3rd quarter with an 11 point lead...

Also, I wasn't all that impressed with the Offensive line play tonight... Hill didn't get much pertection and they didn't open up too many holes for Williams or Brown.

Our Defense played well (until we went to the bench midway through the 4th quarter)... And Hoffman's catch for the TD was outstanding... A highlight film piece for sure...

Still, a 3 TD win over a big bad BCS team is a good one for the quiver... That and Texas' romp over the Sooners was also nice... It validate our Longhorn blow out a few weeks ago...

Offense looked bad in the second half. Anae got conservative with his up the middle throw away downs. Fist half play calling was amazing. If he would just keep it up for the entire game, fans would be happier. We'll take the win though.

Hahah, Christopher B, you really entertain me. The team you cheer for just beat the #5 ranked team, but your BYU obsession is so much an overpowering part of who you are that you can't help but go on the BYU article and belittle BYU's win. The team you cheer for had the biggest upset of the week (actually of the year so far). Congratulations.

As for the game that this article was about, I was of course pleased with BYU's win, but was a little irritated by the offense in the 2nd half. IF the defense hadn't stepped it up, it may have been a close game. Anae still is only a slightly above average (at best) OC so far this year. But I won't complain, because we won. Was pleased with Hill, thrilled with Hoff's amazing TD catch, and very very pleased and trilled with KVN as usual. And of course I loved Fua's pick six. Go Cougars!

I guess Texas wasn't as bad as everyone thought. For most Utah fans, losing to BYU makes a team "poor" by definition; it can't be simply that BYU played well against a good team. I'll resist the temptation to return the favor by calling Stanford self-evidently overrated--I'm willing to give them credit for playing a great game. I hope both teams do well from here on out.
