Ute fans seem to be pushing the revisionist history that Texas never packed the box during the game in an effort to stop the run. I watched the replay of the game, and by the middle of the second quarter the LBs and safeties were routinely crowding the line. Didn't make a bit of difference.

In fact, that's part of the reason Hill and Williams were able to peel off big runs on the sides; once they got around the corner and the DE, there was no one left to stop them because the safeties weren't there.

That happens to teams who quit on themselves and their coaches...

That was a good post. Thanks for taking the time to research that.

Did you find similar accolades for the Utes beating Weber State?

    Had to ask.

The national media can't say anything good about BYU? It was just all about how bad Texas was? Par for the course really. Did you forget what the national media said after Utah beat Alabama?

Wasn't something along the lines of "Alabama was disappointed they weren't playing in the championship game, so they weren't up for the game." It wasn't about how Utah beat them down. It was all about how Alabama didn't show up to play.

Rarely does the team that pulls the upset over an "elite" program get the credit they deserve.

"You would think if BYU were half the national power their fans think, that... BYU would be ranked"

Don't worry your pretty little head, BYU will be ranked after September 21st.

I'm pretty sure you just gave a sincere compliment to your rival. Cheers man. I personally love your over-the-top comments, keep 'em coming.

I never like to see anyone fired, but I suppose those are the breaks and how college football works.

Not to take anything away from byu's victory, because they deserved it, but Texas' defense was so completely backwards. They made NO attempts to stop the read option Hill kept killing them with. Hill completes far less than 50% of his passes so instead of making him throw, they just kept letting him run wild.
This guy deserved to be fired for that display.
Congrats to Hill and byu though, they completely out-coached Texas.

    @ Chris B:

Why do you continue to be so obsessed with anything BYU? Now you're telling us that you've been following all the national discussion on the BYU-Texas game. You obviously spent more time following what is said about BYU than you even do about Utah. Deep down, you must truly be a BYU fan and just afraid to admit it.

And speaking of rankings, did you notice that BYU is still ranked 13 spots better than Utah on the latest USA Today's rankings? That must really hurt.

Oh, and please don't renig on your promise to stop your silliness for a year after BYU ends this little mini-streak they've been lucky to maintain for the past few games against BYU. It was probably fun while it lasted. But you have only 12 more days before it gets stopped with a big thud.

One last thing... last month's edition of Psychology Today said something about it being in the range of a 13 year olds mentality to end all of one's comments with a "LOL". It then brought a big smile to start reading yours.
    Just something to think about.

Remind us the last time Utah rushed for 550 yards against anybody even remotely as good as Texas.

Isn't Texas supposed to be loaded with 4- and 5-star players?

So how did a team loaded with 2- and 3-star Sunday School boys run over, around and through a team that has a Top 5 recruiting class every year?

The truth is, BYU simply out played Texas from start to finish.

Ironically, you don't see any Texas fans here making up whiny excuses. The only whiny excuse makers we see are from the hill. Truly ironic.

And when BYU thumps the utsies we will see the utes fire some coaches. I see a trend here.

I just wish that the utes had the courage to play Texas instead of bad mouth them. it is the little brother mentality to kick and run. Or is it maybe that Texas would never consider playing a mid-major team. My guess is both are true.

I guess if you make 5 million a year (Mac Brown) then you are going to take the heat when you lose. College athletics has gotten as cutthroat as the NFL.

You mean a guy that started the game in the nickel defense and stayed in it while the ball was being run down his defense's throat got fired?

    Chris B.

Look at your own team. Utah beat a Very good Utah St team and thrashed Weber St. Where are the Ute's in the rankings, and where is BYU?

Answer: Because the Ute's will always be a "Mid Major" in the sports world eye. BYU can still lose and be ranked.

From another article: "Diaz had been on the hot seat throughout much of the 2012 season, when his defense yielded more yards per game (404.2) than any unit in Texas history."

  • DRay Roy, UT

Not enough credit to BYU offense, but Diaz has not been effective, certainly has had his chances to succeed.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT

I've seen much more discussion nationally on how bad Texas is than how good byu is.

    I wonder Y?

Answer: because byu is not good. Texas is just that bad.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    Sept. 9, 2013 12:51 p.m.

Diaz's defense has been mediocre or bad for years, with several big Texas losses.

But I guess a beatdown by byu was just unacceptable?

YOu would think if byu were half the national power their fans think, that either

    1)byu would be ranked

    2) Texas wouldn't have dropped from 16 to unranked.

    Guess not.
