So Utah is the new Florida or Ohio State? "Oh, our conference is too tough,
so we need to play lower teams to make us feel better." Please. Toughen
and man up like teams such as LSU and Oregon who often play really tough teams
OOC and are proud of it, not backing down like little babies. I laugh everyday
at these articles saying Utah's schedule is just too tough. You got what
you wanted, deal with it and act like men and play the game, don't try to
duck out like a whimpy kid. So glad I'm not a fan of Utah. Embarrassing
to say the least.Hey, UNLV is always available for an easy win,
@ SportsFan"After a couple of honeymoon seasons where other PAC
members gave the news kids on the hill the benefit of the doubt, the PAC has
accepted the Utes for the PAC whipping boys that they are"And
BYU is still Utah's whipping boy! Gotta love these desperate
Cougie fans who talk smack when their team hasn't beaten us since 2009.
Claiming that "the Utes will definitely earn a playoff invite by conference
affiliation alone" is simply your opinion. You have absolutely no proof that
a one-loss Utah team wouldn't be shut out of the playoffs by four
undefeated or one-loss teams from the SEC, B1G, Big 12 and ACC.The
Utes only won SIX conference championships in the last 55 years (about one per
decade). What makes you think the Utes will do any better in the PAC, a
supposedly much better conference than the WAC/MWC?Nothing
"claiming" about it; the Utes have ZERO national cachet; in fact,
they're practically invisible in their own conference. After a couple of
honeymoon seasons where other PAC members gave the news kids on the hill the
benefit of the doubt, the PAC has accepted the Utes for the PAC whipping boys
that they are.
PAC ManAnswer to your first question: Chris B.BYU lost
for many more reasons than the single one you listed, which will become
glaringly apparent as the season continues. We've played plenty,
I have no interest in regurgitating facts from the past. If you're
referencing this season, then remember that we are heading into the second week!
LolThe PAC12 is a tough venue, to be sure. But claiming the Utes
have "ZERO national cachet" is purely your opinion, and that's
it.Your last statement is incorrect, considering the Utes will
definitely earn a playoff invite by conference affiliation alone. They will
indeed put together a season worthy of it. All in good time! Go Utes!
Samurai JakeWho made you blog monitor?BYU lost to a
"power conference" team on a bobbled pass in the rain. Who
have U played?btw, Utah's chances of ever winning a national
championship went poof the moment the Utes accepted their invitation to the PAC.
The Utes will NEVER have an undefeated season in the PAC, which is what it will
take for the Utes, a team with absolutely ZERO national cachet, to get an invite
to the playoffs.
Uteology"Kyle hasn't beaten a single AP Top 25 since the
2008 season, but has lost to TWO 10-loss teams in the last 6 seasons."The statement is absolutely true; who said that the time-frame for each
part of the statement had to be the same?Bronco has beaten TWO AP
Top 25 teams since the 2008 season: #18/#18 Utah in 2009 and #16/#17 Utah
State in 2012Utah hasn't beaten ANY AP Top 25 teams since the
2008 season:BYU finished #26 in the final AP poll in 2011, Pittsburgh
didn't receive a single vote in the final AP poll in 2010Bronco
has NEVER lost to a 10-loss team.Kyle has lost to TWO 10-loss teams:2007 UNLV(2-10) 0-27 and 2011 Colorado(3-10)Utah barely beat
11-loss Colorado 42-35 in 2012.To put that in perspective, BYU has
only lost to TWO 10-loss teams in their entire football history. Kyle has lost
to that many in the last SIX years.
The fact that any of you posted on this article after an 0-1 start to the 12th
ranked ACC team (translation: they're basically dead last), further proves
my point: we don't want to hear about you beating Virginia on paper. The
reality is, YbU is 0-1, on their way to 0-2, and sources strongly suggest that
they will be well on their way to 0-3 come Sept. 21st! National Championship
vision that Bishop Mendenhall had pre-season? Poof! Go Utes!
Christine, it's always like this, even though they'll try and state
that it's not. Unfortunately the posts on these boards consistently prove
otherwise. It's kinda funny actually...in a sad sort of way. The only
thing that brings me to this side of the boards is I get tired of all the
grandstanding from these guys on the BYU side of things that it makes me curious
to see if they are as obsessed with BYU on their own articles...they are.
For papi chulo:To your credit, you picked the USU game about right,
although they'll score more than 24 points. As for your other
predictions: time to wake up, cuz that's some major wishful thinking! GO
@ Marked it Down"Kyle hasn't beaten a single AP Top 25
since the 2008 season" That's not true! Utah beat TWO AP
top 25 teams since 2008 (#15 Pittsburgh in 2010, #25 BYU in 2012). "but has lost to TWO 10-loss teams in the last 6 seasons"Too bad those losses are in the distant past! BYU is coming off a fresh loss
to Virginia the bottom dweller of the ACC.
@Marked it DownKyle hasn't beaten a single AP Top 25 since the
2008 season, but has lost to TWO 10-loss teams in the last 6 seasons. -------------Since 2008 season? 6 seasons? That would be 2007
season. You are all over the place trying to prove an inept opinion.Oh wait, I see what your trying to do. * You want to use 2007 so
you can count Utah losses at 2-10 UNLV in 2007 and then Colorado in 2011. * But then you want to count AP wins from 2009 because if you use 2007
you would have to count 4 AP wins for Kyle: #6, #7, #18, #25.That's pretty slick!Go Rain!!
@ VegasUte:Why wouldn't I show up this week? BYU overall
outplayed Virginia with significantly more yardage, more first downs and more
time of possession. Nothing to be ashamed of. We lost the game on one
unfortunate play... kind of like the way Utah won their game... on one fortunate
play... even though the Aggies overall outplayed them. It's a real
eye-roller to read how many Ute trolls contend how Utah and Virginia dominated
those games. (And here I thought that smoken that stuff was only legal in
Washington.) Unlike your Utes (and sometimes even my Cougars), I'll
be showing up each and every week... just building to the crescendo that will be
happening on the 21st of this month. Then I'm quite certain you and a few
fellow trolls will be taking some time off... after giving a few genuinely
UteologyKyle hasn't beaten a single AP Top 25 since the 2008
season, but has lost to TWO 10-loss teams in the last 6 seasons. Bronco has beaten TWO AP Top 25 teams since the 2008 season, but has never
lost to a 10-loss team. When it comes to proving that you can't
beat anybody, but also proving that you can lose to anybody, Kyle is the clear
winner, er, loser.
@Christy BExcuse my little sister's rant. She's obviously
extremely nervous about the possibility of our Utes losing to the lowly
Wildcats, especially since Kyle has proven that he's capable of losing to
anybody.-------------What do you mean by "our
Utes". When did you jump on our bandwagon? When you stopped blaming the
rain?Bronco has proven he's not capable of beating anyone since
he has a losing record against BCS teams. Good luck against Texas.
Thankfully you have 2 weeks to prepare for Utah.
Tators = Never in doubt, and never correct.
Tators!I didn't think you would show up again after last week!
After the total smack down byU will get this weekend from an actual team, maybe
you'll take a few more days off? Thanks for coming by, though.
We miss you and your total support for our team!!Go Utes! Onward
Christine B. Hedgefog"An article entirely about Utah
football...Who has the obsession???"Well, by your very post you
answered your own question!Too easy!Go Utes!!
Orion:The only BYU fans making outrageous predictions at this point are
the BYU versions of ChrisB. While his chest thumping and delusional season
predictions (after a narrow escape against a "WAC 2.0" team he dissed
alll last week) are certainly good for a laugh, no one takes them seriously. I
would suggest you react to BYU fans with his personality the same way. Have a
good laugh, give little credence and move on with your life.
BYU plays an FCS team every year too, often in November, when you're
supposed to be the heat of real games. They even have one next year when they
play EIGHT mid-major teams. Seriously eight?! That's how many they would
have played in the MWC. They should have just stayed there.
So call me crazy but I don't see where the BYU fans get off on their
predictions. There seems to be little logical basis for them considering that
BYU stank hard core last week, their line is as bad as last year, and their QB
is an inexperienced Sophomore that has to deal with a terrible o line. I would
like some enlightenment.
Ed,Didnt BYU play Weber last year?Translation: Since BYU cant beat
Utah, I must come up with something asinine to post.
Why does the deseret news make the titles to many of their Utah articles so
negative. If you look back at the articles written about Utah, many have
negative conotations. You never see a negative article about USU and very
rareley about the y, and quite often often for Utah.
@EdGrady:I didn't know having one FCS school on your schedule was
loading up. What do you call BYU's schedule then?
Chris B also said the Utes would easily stomp all over the Aggies, too. And
look what happened there. It took a trick play and exceptional kicking to
barely pull it out while the Aggies had more first downs, time of possession and
yardage. Hardly a dominant performance by Utah. Chris B "likes
the current state of Ute football"... even though in the Utes most recent
season they are the only division 1 school in Utah to not qualify for a bowl
game and the only one with a losing record. LOL.He also states they
are worth of their lofty PAC12 membership. Yes, they are... if worthy means
always finishing in the bottom tier of the conference and never yet having a
winning record in it. Hopefully, they won't be the perennial cellar dweller
again this season. It's very possible this Weber game will be
the last Ute win in awhile. Conference play is not going to be pretty. Mark it
down, Chris. And keep those rose (crimson) colored glassed fastened on tight. It
makes your posts here very entertaining.
@ EdGrady"Translation: since utah is uncompetitive in the
Pac-12, they need to load up on FCS teams to pad Whittingham's record and
Hill's credibility"So your definition of "loading
up" is playing one FCS team a year. Ok that makes a lot of sense (sarcasm).
By that same logic, isn't BYU "loading up" with an FCS team because
they're playing Idaho State in November? That can only mean that BYU is not
very competitive as an Independent and they need an FCS team to pad
Bronco's record and Holmoe's credibility and reputation.
For Chris B (the almighty who knows everything about everything)This
weeks scores:Weber 31Utah 28Utah St. 24Air
Force 21BYU 30Texas 28
Ha ha on hateful jealous little rant. Whit has no better record padding and Dr.
Hill has no credibility like they do in happy valley.
Translation: since utah is uncompetitive in the Pac-12, they need to load up on
FCS teams to pad Whittingham's record and Hill's credibility.
Ute is NOT even coming close to losing this game. Besides Chris B. bashing on
USU. The Aggies in my mind could very easily be ranked this year! And the U
for the first game looked very solid!Utes win by 4 + TD'sBYU Losses by 2 to 3 + TD'sAggies win by 2 + TD's ( I hope
)Go Aggies!Go Utes!
Weber might beat UTAH.On any given Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
Sunday...If Weber wins, it won't be because UTAH overlooked Weber. The memory of a 5 and 7 season will help keep any team from
overlooking/under-estimating anyone.GO UTES
I take a different view. I really appreciate the DNews publishing--on the same
day--two articles that will be on the locker room bulletin boards of the Utes
and Longhorns going into Saturday's games in Salt Lake and Provo. I don't think that's what the guiding lights at the DNews intended,
but thanks just the same.
I was at the BSU game in 1980; what a sad performance by Utah. I expect a solid
victory on Saturday. No way Utah takes Weber St. lightly. Too much to lose.
All of the comments above by my fellow Ute fans echo my feelings exactly.
Although upsets can happen, I would be shocked if the Utes don't come out
and play with a sense of urgency, even against Weber State. We have too much
riding on each game this season to take any team lightly. I'm sure Coach
Whitt has made that clear to his team.Go Utes!
What a ridiculous article. Why is this even brought up? Poor form DNews for even
running it. Out of all the storylines you could write about the writer goes
negative. I guess misery loves company. If you can't beat your rival then
bring them down with your pen.
We've been hearing and reading about the FCS upsets since Monday morning.
It was the first thing that Kyle mentioned at his press conference. The Utes are
going into this game with eyes wide open. Pointless article. On the
subject of byu...lol.Go Utes.
Christine B. HedgefogExcuse my little sister's rant. She's
obviously extremely nervous about the possibility of our Utes losing to the
lowly Wildcats, especially since Kyle has proven that he's capable of
losing to anybody.
Christine B. Hedgefog,That's some fine wishful thinking that the
world revolves around byu. If you examine the posts more closely, USU, Weber,
and Texas are all in the discussion. One has to wonder why the Des
News would put up an article like this. There has to be a reason...a driver.
So, a few theories are proffered. That's all. As you said..."as
idiotic as the article is..."
Christine B. HedgefogSalt Lake City, UT"An article entirely
about Utah football (as idiotic as the article is), 6 total comments up to this
point, all 6 by Ute fans, and all 6 directed toward BYU. Who has the
obsession???"People pointing out obvious conflicts of interest

As much chance we lose to weber as there is we lose to byu Not
An article entirely about Utah football (as idiotic as the article is), 6 total
comments up to this point, all 6 by Ute fans, and all 6 directed toward BYU.
Who has the obsession???
Sorensen you've stooped to an all time sports journalistic low.Why and What in the World does this article have to do with this weeks
football game and the Utes schedule. Please tell me its not an
enviable streak of Cougar Blue running through your veins. My only
conclusion can be the bYu loss to the bottom dwellers of the ACC
Really dnews? Really?Just because byu layed a rotten egg last week
it's no reason to write a smear piece on Utah...especially whn it's
such a reach.Desperate times demand desperate actions I guess.
Will Utah or Texas win by more this weekend?Tough call.
This weeks games:Utah 47Weber 10Texas 40Byu
14Usu 27Air Force 17Congratulations to Utah,
Texas, and Air Force!Go utes!
Losing to lower programs(including our WAC brethren usu an byu) has happened.
But if you look at the last decade we are quickly establishing
ourselves as a cut above these programs and worthy of our PAC 12 membership. Such losses are becoming very rare. Will we ever lose to a
WAC program again?Perhaps. But I like the current state
of ute football(best decade in the state, best recruits, best bowl games, best
bowl wins, top 10 seasons)I look forward to our continued
disassociation from these lower programs. We beat them the great
majority and they are not considered "good wins"Utah will
soon be 4-0 and ranked in the top 25 and our brother byu will be 0-3 and usu
will be the second best team in a weak WAC conference. The futures
of Utah and our lower brothers are vastly different. Go utes!
Well then I guess it's a good thing that results in the distant past have
absolutely no bearing on the present. When I read this headline I got
worried...until I saw that Utah's last loss to a FBS opponent was in 1980.
That's 33 years ago, and just two years after Lavell Edwards invented
football (according to BYU fans).Seriously though, I hate it when
sports journalists and talking heads say things like "Team X better look out
for Team Y....Team Y has beaten them three of the last four times they've
played. Those three times were in 1996, 1988, and 1963." What's that
got to do with anything? Most everyone involved in those games has forgotten
they were involved or already died...those results have zero impact on the
