Promotional photos of Tonto communicated that the film bastardized the story we all grew up with. It was clear to me that the Lone Ranger in the movie was nothing like what we liked about the original story. The younger generation that are the majority of film viewers today knew nothing about the real Lone Ranger and Tonto so why would they be interested? This combination - not the critics- is what doomed this film. The producers' turned off the primary audience for a Lone Ranger film. Tonto and the Lone Ranger were virtuous and good guys seeking to right wrongs and support justice. Those concepts of course are contrary to what Hollywoodmhas become.

This movie's lack of success at the box office can't all be blamed on the critics. It truly is just not that great of a film. A few nice special effects, but a rather weak story-line.
