With the completion of all the rail projects and closer scrutiny of UTA's
operations, it is now time for the state legislature to split UTA into two
separate but closely coordinated agencies. One for rails and one for buses.
Each agency should have its own dedicated revenue stream. That way one interest
group that prefers rails cannot divert funds from bus operations. Policies and
rules can be put in place that will ensure cooperation and schedule coordination
between the bus agency and the rail agency.
UTA again delivers a capital project ahead of schedule and under budget. Utah is
really lucky to have them.
