Problem with those critical of God and religion is that they take some very complex issues and dismiss them with simplistic reasoning: "If God is all-powerful, how come he can't stop the evil?" "If God is all loving, why does he allow us to suffer?" These are not new questions; they've been around since the beginning of time. But then, maybe it takes too much effort to study, pray, try out the "word" to see if it's true (John 8:32-33), and take a leap of faith.
We are here to learn from our experience, and if the three kidnap victims choose to rebuild a life of faith after such a horrific 10 years, more power to them!

To "Hutterite" you are only looking at half things. This is a testament to the power and misery that those who follow Satan will inflict. This event shows that while God loves us, Satan hates us and desires us to be miserable. While they lived in miserable circumstances, the testamony that those women can give against their captors will ensure that their captors will not be living with God (unless there is some huge repentance going on).

Hutterite, these girls understand that God has a plan for them you obviously don't. In order for us to exercise our free will/agency, God cannot intervene in every decision we make on earth. Their kidnapper exercised his agency by choosing his evil ways. The girls chose to stay close to their faith and prayers, which I believe ultimately lead to their rescue & their kidnapper's capture. All justice will be taken care of when we all meet our maker. If God stopped every catastrophe, every crime, every horrible thing that happens when others exercise their free will and choice, then what are we here for? We are to exercise our ability to choose by choosing good. Yes, Ron, God does get the credit when things are good, and satan gets the blame when things are bad. All good comes from God - there is no denying that. Best you read your scriptures before quoting them. Even when God's own son was tortured & killed, He did not intervene or we all could not enjoy FREEDOM. This is what it is all about - free will, choice & accountability. Since time began, many have died for it! Enjoy your free gift!

I love how people of faith are so biased with their superstition. Whenever something good happens, credit goes to god. When something bad happens, they blame satan or say it is a person's own free agency.

God can never lose, except in the Old Testament he at least admits to all of the negative stuff he "does."

Hutterite. How do you know heaven stood idly by for ten years. Why was Elizabeth Smart missing for nine months. Where is Susan Powell? Why don't you ask deity. Or better yet, read the scriptures. You might find some answers.

With all due respect to the cleveland kidnap victims, heaven stood by idly for ten years as they were held captive and tortured. Is this the manifest love of an all powerful deity?
